I don't understand people who defend this law. We should have a full government option and this law is going to delay that for years. Unless of course it fails so spectacularly that it provokes a crisis that brings on a full government option. But then the Republicans will be vaulted back into control which will delay it for years.

I think you've answered your own question; half a loaf is better than no loaf at all.

"Total Disaster" is what we have NOW, Subby.

72 days until I can get my sick wife enrolled in a health care exchange.  I'm terrified-- if she gets much worse I have no idea how I can hang onto my job and take care of our 2-year-old daughter. The docs at the clinics I can (just barely) afford to pay out-of-pocket are just about worthless for diagnosing whatever the hell is wrong with her.

Republicans can go suck Satan's cock in Hell.  There are few things more evil than spreading lies to deny sick people health care they desperately need.

People are LITERALLY dying of easily treatable maladies because of the system now in place-- A system that costs the nation as a whole roughly twice as much as the civilized world pays yet doesn't cover everybody and has worse outcomes.

Obama sucks, I agree, but only because it puts the evil and greedy for-profit health insurance companies on the gravy train and doesn't do nearly enough. But at least it's SOMETHING, which is better than the NOTHING so many have right now.

Yes, if you work hard and have a job then you will have money to pay to go to the doctor and stop leaching off the insurance companies.

and no, extremely wealthy republicans, just letting people die if they aren't extremely wealthy republicans is not actually ok. stop being sociopaths.

And just in case you think I'm being cheeky, I remember when my mom had cancer.  While she didn't have the insurance needed to get the best available treatment, the joy in her heart from knowing that the Koch brothers had been able to save hundreds of millions in taxes because of the Bush tax cuts warmed her heart so brilliantly that she didn't even need treatment!

The best part about Obamacare is that people that think they're liberals spent years defending a Republican program that doesn't fix the problem, and makes them look like they suck at making policy.

Healthcare theft has always been the real problem. Others not being able to afford health insurance is the unfortunate side effect.

Portions of a full unit isn't a good analogy.  It's more like, create a disaster that needs to be cleaned up before the goal you're trying to build can be done so correctly.  Always ends up costing a lot more.  Half assing things usually causes a lot more issues.  I'd rather someone just not do anything than half ass something.

Please explain what has been disastrous and has "cost more" so far.

I can see why you might think that if all you do is listen to debate on the insurance provisions.  All the press seems to cover is Title I out of the ten titles of the act.

Title III definitely addresses costs - it pushes the new ACO model of health care where reimbursement shifts from volume to value, and from what I've seen, many large medical organizations are on board with this change.  That is, rather than getting paid for what they do, they get paid based on how healthy they keep their population of patients.

Title IV pushes preventative care over more costly interventions later (one doctor I know said "the US has amazing sick care but poor health care").  Title V helps to push for increasing the number of medical professionals, which will lower costs through more competition.

Posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating. Profiting off of the life or death of sick people is inherently immoral. The "free market" in health insurance is nothing more than executives going to play golf after denying life-saving coverage to people who have paid their premiums and are therefore legally entitled to their contractually-obligated benefits.

Considering the many hundreds of millions spent on trying to convince people it will be a disaster when it won't, I'd say money well spent.

This is the only way we'll ever get the public option, which is the only way we'll ever get a single payer system, which is the only real solution.

Plus, it'll be better than the old status quo if the republicans fail to derail it completely, and if the republicans fail to drive us into depression.

"Unlikely" tag is for the suggestion that Obamacare will be a complete disaster, I take it.

2013-07-21 01:44:02 PM
The democrats have been really good at campaigning and making promises.
Too bad they can't do the governing part of the job.

They have also done a great job at lowering expectations.  No one seems to care any more about the unemployment rate, declining wages, more people giving up on looking for jobs, high under employment.

Why are you attempting to change the topic? Could it be you're trying to distract from the fact that Obamacare will be a success?

I love that directly below this article is another on how the "Obamacare made health premiums in Indiana go up 72%" thing going around now is bullshiat.

FTFY

The dems are all campaigning, all the time, in the fact-free zone.

But at least now that they passed the bill, they are starting to understand what is in bill.  Thanks Pelosi.

So all cough medicine should be provided at cost?  How about tissues that sick people use to wipe their nose? How about band aides?
