Also, very cool video. It is amazing that that came from 40 miles away. I do wonder how long that flow lasted.

Get in the way of one of those and you could be seriously killed.

Yeah, that was a bright idea, trying to outrun a flash flood. What a dumbass.

I've traveled through Utah and saw many of what looked like dry/barely moist river beds and wondered what the source was. Now I now...

I remember once we had an engineer on Phoenix's flood control department pull a mini-rant about how "Phoenix only gets 2 inches of rain a year, but it gets it all on the same day.  So we have these old folks spending 364 days a year biatching about how much money we spend on flood control and then biatching 1 day a year about how their house just flooded."

/And yeah, Southern Utah is pretty.  Once I'm rich, I'm gonna take a month and just drive from Denver to Vegas hitting up all the national parks along the way.
//For a slightly more rainy version, look up Laughing Whitefish Falls in the UP of MI.  In the summer, it's this little trickle, but I went there in March once, and it's this roaring canyon filled end-to-end with water.

Delicate Arch is so beautiful.

Someone in the YT comments pointed out he could just use a remote-controlled helicopter with video cam and shoot from above the flood and follow it.

Makes a lot of sense, but is part of this the thrill for him getting out of the way in time?

This guy is a complete idiot.  He's playing chicken with a freaking river.  Trip over one stone while he's trying to outpace it, and he's done for.

So, if you had a raft that could stand up to the sharp debris, could you ride that thing somewhere near the front? Would you get pushed to the front and rolled underneath?

Yeah, this guy is going to wash up dead somewhere one day, and I won't feel bad at ALL.
Just hope his wife gets away.

I am going to add my condolences because one (or all) of them are going to get caught up in a terrible moment, so go ahead and bank that. BUT, in the meantime, he can teach some of the YOLO and fireworks videographers how to hold a camera steady.

Still not as stupid as people who drive into high water.

I once came upon a flash flood.  I pulled over and stopped.  I saw an old lady in a Jaguar try to cross through it - nothing I could do to stop her.  A firetruck came along.  They wouldn't even attempt to cross the intersection which had suddenly become a river, but they still rescued the old biatch.

It was even simpler than what the warnings usually say "You don't know how deep the water is".  My car had a higher ground clearance than a Jaguar and I could tell it was too deep for me to attempt.

Jaguars are not amphibious vehicles.  Stop laughing, neither is your SUV.

Although it does look like what we used to call "flirting with Jesus" the camera makes it look closer than it actually is (equiv. to around 50mm focal length on a 35mm film camera).

Also you'll note that there were prominent banks in every shot. All you have to do is scramble up top.

/ But I did find the warning about snakes creepy. Very angry snakes.

W.C.fields forever: She was cute. Was it wrong when i was hoping she was wearing high heeled shoes?

Nope. I was less focussed on the awesomeness of the flash flood, and more on "TRIP, TRIP,TRIP"

One good thing to take away from this is that even if you are a dumb looking farker (at least in the facial hair dept.) & have a stupid hobby that can kill you if you trip (outrunning flash floods), you too can still attract & keep (at least for a while) a reasonably attractive woman.

Basement dwelling Farkers everywhere should be rejoicing this morning.

A deceptively slow wave of death... like a viper it lulls you into thinking you're a safe distance away. Then it rushes at you with seemingly supernatural speed, and it's too late.  Now all you can feel is the icy claws of death as your body collapses and is consumed by the roiling, gel-like mass.  Your only hope of being useful again is in your bleached bones serving as a warning to others.  Others who will never see your Olympian form from the gaunt skeleton, and think that they are better than you... only to meet the same fate.  The debris flow's hunger is never sated, all it knows is to flow and consume all in it's path.

Same guy, from last year?  Prior to the lobotomy.

The debris flow seems more impressive in this one.

Shhhh! You know the schadenfreude crowd can't cum unless they're thinking about someone dying for having fun!

wow, people in utah must be really bored.  Stormchasing I sort of get, but flood chasers?  what's next, grass growing watchers?

It's way bigger/heavier than a washing machine. It gives some idea how powerful that flow is.

I get the feeling this guy gets the same thrill by standing in front of freight trains and then jumping out of the way at the last second as well.

As much as I hate to say it, I was fascinated.

Hope to see his death video next year.

Hey, even "Cheers" had to end.
