(Opposing Views)   New study suggests that marijuana users are more "health literate" than non-smokers. After a quick smoke break, researchers also found that they're handsomer, awesomer and wiser than the average person   (opposingviews.com) divider line 16

Marijuana users are  generally well-versed in their recreational drug of choice. And the fact it's relatively harmless outside of the normal risks of smoking, and outside of the schizophrenic/MAOI population.

The fact that Tobacco is legal, but Marijuana is not is appalling, and falls back on the hypocritical and racist reasons for the delegalization of marijuana in the first place.

Because they went out of their way to make Newports illegal right?

It was about money and big industries being hurt by hemp, not arresting the "negros." That part was just a convenient bonus.

Uh, racism was a huge part of the criminalization of drugs. The first drug law in this country was banning opium in California because of racism against Asians.

Bingo. Industrialized hemp may have been a factor in criminalizing cannabis, but the heavy penalties for possessions of small amounts were not a threat to the textile industry.  They were put in place as a method of harassing and imprisoning Hispanics.  The "negro" issue is more in line with the laws that were passed in the 80s in which possession of crack (primarily used in the inner city / minority areas) vs less strict laws on powder cocaine which was used common in the middle and upper class.

Yes, because there are so many health problems related to marijuana. Hungry, happy, and sleepy are pretty huge health risks, right?

Kept me from doing things I should not for years.

Now if the pants-wetters would get overthemselves - they lost the election in Colorado and WA, but oh, the fight they are putting up - Like a 30 pound Northern they are fighting.

And like the northern, we will land them, then club 'em over the heads.

AirGee: Marijuana was criminalized initially to use against migrant farm workers in the southwest during the great depression not black people.

It was both, actually.

Rueened: So is this what the Fark Cannabis Defense Brigade have for us today?

How about no.

Don't think so, `Nancy'.

Today, for your enlightenment we have Irvin Rosenfeld, a stockbroker, from Florida, testifying in Michigan re: Medical MJ.
Rosenfeld has been receiving 9oz. (360 joints) of Marijuana, every month (from the Federal Pot Farm at the University of Mississippi) since 1982.  His condition?  Multiple Congenital Cartilaginous Exotoses.  The hearing was in `06.  He is currently still employed and still getting his tins of Uncle Sam's boo.  Can only wish all citizens were as Farked up...

I think of myself as more of a "consumer" than a "user".  "User" connotes a parasitic association, whereas my own relationship ensures that more pot will be forthcoming regardless of how badly I hit the biatch.

If you use a vaporizer, you probably have better lung capacity than a non-smoker.  It's like constantly doing breathing exercises.

We all know Marijuana prohibition pure political theatre to line the pockets of Lawyers, Prison Execs, and LEO.

What I can't figure out, is why so called "conservatives" and other the other obviously crabby-old people on Fark support painfully expensive, intrusive policies like this.

Could it be that they like intrusive government so long as they're holding the butt of the gun?

/Magic 8-Ball says: "holding the butt - what conservatives do best."
