Don't argue with Fark Grammar nazis and meme spewers. They don't give a shiat and latch on to any reason to rattle their sabers.

This WITCH, made her husband live his entire life as a suspect in a murder investigation!  How does one enjoy a single moment with that suspicion hanging over your head?  Hope she realizes that she destroyed any hope in a happy or peaceful life he had.

Harling had no details about why the woman left or what she's been doing for the last 50 years. He wouldn't even say where Johnson lived, other than to say it was near a "major city" in the territory.

"Major city"? Yukon?

My ex-wife put a big dish of lasagna in the oven and left for the store in 1997, never to return. Her last words to me were, "Take that out in an hour." Unfortunately, she's not missing - her and the current wife are friends on Facebook. Thanks for the link-love the happy ending.

At least if she had stayed, he could have offed her and disposed of the body!

I'm thinking the marriage wasn't that happy if it took him 4 years to report her missing.

Lots of things are possible, but without any evidence of that being the case lets not just assume that it is. Also she apparently didn't have any problem leaving her daughter with him.

they're probably the same people that spammed every thread with that damn battlefield galacta quote after 9/11.  Maybe it's a hipster memorial to someone, and we normal folk just don't know who.  Checking...nope, it's not the birth or death-day of steve jobs...

He might've been an abusive husband and deserved all the stress and discomfort he could get.

Or she could've been a cheating whore, I'M NOT PSYCHIC!

for all you know, he could have been abusing her, and he waited 4 years because he was thinking she'd come back.  I have to wonder why no one else would have noticed her 4 year absence...

It's possible she had a mental condition. There's one type where the person will go for a nice long journey, wake up, and have  no idea they went on a journey; there's another where the person will relocate and assume a new identity in response to a trauma. Both are possible here.

/Too lazy to look the names up, but they're both forms of basically amnesia, and if someone gets it, yeah, good farking luck stopping them--the husband might have just been like 'well, she's done this before, she'll come back'.

Who knows...that era was just weird in their desire to keep anything unpleasant a secret and glossed over.  I could definitely imagine that the husband knew where she was and why she was gone but felt that keeping it all a secret was better than the truth.  Those post WWII closets are littered with skeletons.

My family is currently going through some major issues mostly because of my grandmothers actions during the 1950s and her desire to make believe that none of it every happened.  Sorry grandma but living a perfect life from 1961 on does not excuse you from leaving behind three children spread out over two different families.  Those children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren kinda deserve some answers when they start asking questions.

Maybe he should have reported her missing within a year or two and not when he started missing her.
