That dog was truly loved and very lucky and  . . . . there go the tears.

Although that dog had arthritis, poor vision and hearing it would have led one very happy life thanks to the kindness and generosity of it's owner.

Should've put it down and saved it the pain. Owner sounds like a selfish twat.

I agree that the owner was very very fortunate as well. If your tear ducts aren't sufficiently exercised, view my profile and see my dog, age 15 1/2, right around the time he left us. Such a good boy.

And when you talk to his person, he has had a very good life thanks to the dog. Over in the other thread about Schoep someone said that we grieve because we loved and were loved. I think that is very fitting to this pair.

// not sad, dog lived a very long and good life with a good owner
/// go adopt an elderly dog and treat it well while you're still all weepy and vulnerable

Hey, it means a second chance at life. How many get that?

THIS is the article you decide to run twice in one day? Gads, it might lead someone to eat a bullet.

Bashar and Asma's Infinite Playlist: Should've put it down and saved it the pain. Owner sounds like a selfish twat.

And hopefully, it's this guy.

20 years is unbelievable... My little guy lasted 16.  similar markings.... He couldn't hear, walk, control his bladder...  Toughest decision of my whole life, but i had him put down.. Paid a person who specializes in pet euthenasia to come out to the house and perform it so Coltrane was in familiar surroundings....   Never necessarily believed in a 'soul' or spirit prior, but i actually felt him pass through me in the final moment as he ran off to the doggie farm in the sky.

If the only reprieve from pain your dog gets is a daily float in the lake, the rest of the time it's living a miserable existence. Let's not hold this guy up as a hero for being cowardly and unable to make a tough, correct decision.

I was going to tell you to wipe your feet and not bring any more dust in here.  But who am I kidding, this brought a tear to my eye.  Wish I had thought to have someone come to the house when my Golden's cancer became too much for her to bear.

So anything with arthritis should be put down since the quality of life is non existent?  That's good to know.

Lets also not put him down as a coward because he took longer than you would have.

My dad gave me a GSD for my birthday when I was in THIRD grade, He lived 17 1/2 years and he got to play with my children.
Not many dogs live that long,in Wisconsin, with those winters.
RIP Smokey.
I saw this article yesterday in the online Superior newspaper and it made me cry.
