naughtyrev: I guarantee that will be the dumbest thing I read all day.
Andromeda: Yep, Americans clearly shouldn't come to Europe. And I'm not saying it so there is more tasty local beer for me...
BunkoSquad: Actually, now that I think of it, I want everyone to read this article. I'm actually going to Europe for the first time next year (my [large number]th birthday present to myself) and I want the plane to myself, or at least highly desperate and competitive fares.
TuteTibiImperes: naughtyrev: I guarantee that will be the dumbest thing I read all day.It seemed like half of her argument was that because European culture is now accessible in the US, she now can't feel quite as superior to everyone for having gone. For some reason I find the idea of travel just for bragging rights to be troubling.
dv-ous: Economic recovery is slow, money's still tight. Looks like a "staycation" again this year. Please, Slate, help me feel better - smugly superior, even - about being unable, once again, to travel like I've wanted to all my life. Thanks, Slate!
EdNortonsTwin: The girls (and guys too i guess) of the Mediterranean are stunning. You should go if you have the means.
Bermuda59: Maybe the writer should have just gone to Olive Garden

Now we have an American who thinks that less customers means lower prices. FFS, no one understands anything.
thornhill: I realize that, for many Americans, Europe is a sacred cow. Americans fetishizele savoir-faire andla dolce vita. Paris and Rome are always spoken of with a breathy deference which is never afforded Frisco, NYC, or Chicago. Many Europeans feel the same way about NYC -- going there is a right of passage.
Badmoodman: Btw, it's Costco. Cosco is a different company.
lostcat: Last time I was in Europe was '97.I don't feel any urge to go back soon. That said, I've been to Japan seven times since '08. All over SE Asia as well.Asia is where it's at.
Englebert Slaptyback: Paris and Rome are always spoken of with a breathy deference which is never afforded Frisco, NYC, or Chicago.Paris and Rome happen to have long and interesting histories. Hint: a history in the neighborhood of 200 years is not "long".And only rubes refer to San Francisco as 'Frisco'.Only Frisco douches get mad at Frisco.Frisco kid was a friend of mine.
