I still get the feeling that this guy kept his dog around a little too long... but it doesn't make it any less sad.

I'll drop a Snausage on the curb today.

The owner is kind of hot. But it might just be because he took his old dog swimming to ease his arthritis. Don't care. Awesome, sad story.

I live in Virginia so I definitely know what you're talking about.
How you doin Bobby Mac and Kenny Kooki? Still corrupt? Yep, thought so.
Doesn't help that I also live outside the world headquarters for corruption, Washington DC.

I came to Fark for a laugh this morning after getting some pretty rotten news and then I saw this. Ug.

Oh, and what was that rotten news? The 6-month-old puppy that is my 6-year-old's favorite thing in the world has to be put to sleep. It's being done today and we have to tell her tonight. This is going to be rough.

It's terrible.  To wait to hear that jingling collar, ticking toenails on the hardwood.

I don't care for this story.  Not at all.  And yes, dogs die, and yes there are worse things going on in the world...but unfortunately there is no ceiling on sadness or depressing news. There's always room for more.

Holy shiat...

Sorry for y'all's loss. :(

There's a story about a cop with a unicorn head posing with a porn star. That might help? Probably not.

Seriously very sorry. With I had something inspirational to say, but that simply sucks. *hugs*

OC left a few weeks ago.  He was probably 16-17 years old.  Shortly after I moved into this house, 22 years ago, we started seeing the little orange kitty with the big-ass head in our backyard.  Sometime in 2003, during a heavy snow storm, we made him a little place under the back porch.  He lived there and in our yard until a few weeks ago.  At one point brought home a little chippy and knocked her up.  We adopted two of the kittens and gave the third away prior to snagging her and taking her to 10th Life to get fixed.  I tried to snag OC (Orange Cat, Outside Cat, Other Cat, whatever) a couple of times and came back with bloody stumps trying to get him in a carrier.  OC and Oreo were Man and Wife.  They loved each other and lived in our yard.  They slept together, ate together, and had babies they raised.  He was a good Dad.

We went to the ballgame on Saturday night.  Came home and checked on him on the back porch.  When I got up the next morning, he was gone.  He hasn't come back, and won't.  Over the past couple of years, he has rarely ventured out of our yard due to his age, so I know why he left.  He went to the bridge, and is waiting there with Guinness, JR, and Dreidel (Dreidel died last fall at about 15 and was probably OC's "cousin").  We used to sit on the back porch and listen to the game, or some blues in the evening while I had a drink and he made sure some of him was touching me.

I miss him.  Haven't really conceptualized it until just now.  Mama Kitty is still around but won't let us pet her.

Sorry for the "Sad Story, Bro."

Well, at 20, that's about the equivalent of a 93 year old.  Glad Schoep had a loving owner for such a long time.

Another sad piece of the story (from the articles on the side bar):  In January, the husband of the photographer who took the original photo died in an accident when his snowmobile broke through the ice on Lake Superior

2013-07-19 11:52:14 AM
Well, at least he had a good life (for a dog) and a kind, caring owner who saw to it that everything that could be done to ease his suffering, was.

Not like the dumba*s I saw yesterday at our local farmer's market.  94 degrees, his poor dog iwth no shade, standing on the blacktop drivway burning through its paw pads.

WTF you morons?  Leave your farking dog at home, stupid tools.

So do people. But I feel worse when dogs die than I do when most people die. Cause, you know, people suck. And you are proof.

What this article failed to mention is that Schoep's person received so much money to help with the treatments that he has set the extra aside to help other low income people in the area pay for veterinary services. He recognizes the advantages that the companionship of an animal can provide so he wants to help others as he and Schoep were helped.

Good doggie! RIP

Oh dear.....I too have an OC, mine's HC (Homeless Cat).  He's been around since I moved in just over a year ago.  I hope I can get him in a carrier before snow flies this year, even if it's only for TNR.

I also have 3 inside cats, but this story just reminds me that my 13 year old Himi is probably not long for this world.  *sigh*  He's just old.

"It would have been better if men and dogs grew from boyhood and puppyhood together, and in so doing pass on together. However, nature is not so ordered. So long as there are dogs and men, dogs will die, and men will weep for them." -- Burton Spiller
