The Carrie redo actually looks good.

Now the Robocop on the other hand, if the leaked script details are any clue its going to fail harder than you can imagine.

And last rumor I heard about Terminator is that things are more or less a go, just waiting for schedules to line up and its going to be a complete reboot to the universe. Start from scratch and end with a third movie in the human vs machine war if the movies take off.

You really can't do "The Goonies", either reboot or sequel.

However, a "Goonies" shoutout on "Raising Hope" would be awesome.

Sweet!!!

Can you say King Conan? I bet you can.

If it is a long delayed sequel, a "sidequel", or even a sequel that ignores that a sequel or reboot happened, it isn't a remake or a reboot. Most of the list were sequels and reboots but some weren't (Legend of Conan) and some examples of other movies they mentioned that weren't on the list (Riddick) weren't either. farking entertainment writers.

The only one that really bothers me is Jacob's Ladder, everything else is the usual putting out product just because.

As far as all the comic book remakes, the studio has to keep making them or the rights go back to the creators of the comic books. And we can't have that.

You have to reboot it to lift it into the larger DC universe that MoS created

Sorry, sucks I know, but Nolan Batman does not fit in that universe.

There's nothing like a good old sing song goes the theory, and that's perhaps why another take on Annie is being planned for cinemas. Cameron Diaz is going to play Miss Hannigan this time, with Quvenzhane Wallis playing the title role, and Jamie Foxx as the Daddy Warbucks character (now called Benjamin Stacks). Easy A's Will Gluck is directing, Will Smith is producing. The film will be released in December 2014

Kill it with fire.

You can't remake "Escape From New York". Even John Carpenter & Kurt Russell couldn't do it.

Conan, however, could be amazing (if they don't screw it up).

I'm all for color blind casting but seriously, making Annie black?  Why not just make a new story about an girl who is black that is adopted by whoever?  Race swapping minor characters, who gives a shiat, but a main charterer with long pedigree for no reason?  I suppose they are worried people would think it was the gender-flipped long awaited Diff'rent Strokes movie.

Wait till they see the reboot of "Roots". Kunta Kinte is the role Matt Damon was born to play.

WhippingBoy: You can't remake "Escape From New York". Even John Carpenter & Kurt Russell couldn't do it.

That's my favorite movie on the list.  Actually, I haven't seen most of the movies on the list, but EFNY is a movie I've seen so many times I don't even need to see it to re-watch it in my head.

I'm intrigued by the possibility of a remake, but good luck assembling a cast like they had in the original.

Seriously, Lee Van Cleef, Kurt Russel, Ernest Borgnine, Adrienne Barbeau, Harry Dean Stanton, Isaac Hayes, Donald Pleasance - what?  they got an English guy to play the President?  Yes, they did, and it worked because John Carpenter is a farking genius.

I would watch a remake of that, but I'd probably be horribly disappointed in it.

2013-07-19 09:35:47 AM
Hmm, I could probably knock out a good script for The Black Hole by taking what I vaguely remember of that POS and not making the mistakes I still remember. Hmm, we do a ship stuck in the event horizon so it's stretched through time and space... Work with that a bit. Parent goes deep into the ship and comes back to find his kids are retirement age. We find the master controller deep inside the ship, watching the universe pass on the outside, watching the patterns of humanity and alien races coming and going while seeking some grander design. You know, a bit of sci-fi reflecting out data obsessed world where certain elements think that if only we had more data we could know the future.

"It" could use a remake on technical grounds. It wasn't well mastered. There's no getting around a "made for TV" feel in what they made.

As far as a good Starship Troopers reboot... I don't know if a good version can be made. The book was written out of spite, to get a childrens book contract shredded. Now, Rocketship Galileo done straight faced and stuck in 1953 could be the best comedy of the decade.

Fark you , Hollywood, come up with a NEW idea, not a remake, reboot, or useless sequel.

Vacation? Really? Yeah, Ed Helms is funny, but GIVE HIM A NEW VEHICLE, don't trot something out that's already been done.

War Games? Really?

Highlander? Fark you. With a dirty, rusty chainsaw. All farking week long. Especially if Ryan Reynolds is still attached.
FlatlinersEscape from New YorkGremlins? Jesus, do some farking work for a change.

It, on the other hand, that's not entirely bad.TV is allowing more graphic stuff, and computer animation is getting better, so even on TV, the movie would be improved(Although if they don't use Tim Curry again, it's a mistake). On the big screen? I don't know how they would break it into 2 films, nbut it might work. At least this one isn't a product of its time(Like Goonies and Red Dawn) or just fun because it was silly to begin with and shouldn't be touched(Like Weird Science).

Seriously, Hollywood needs to pull its collective head out of its ass and do some actual work in the writing department.

About the only film mentioned that would be a must see for me is Toxic Avenger, well depending upon if Kaufman gets part of the box I will watch it.  Not because it is good fair nor do I expect a remake/reboot to be good but to make sure the Troma team gets a payday.

I would not mind seeing a few of these have some kind of movie set in their universe. Like the Escape of LA / NY universe. Would be neat to see what happened after Snake set off the world EMP. And for the love of all that is sacred and holy... Just give us a Terminator Dark Future war movie already. Terminator was finished at T2... But the Alternate Dark Future is still prime for movies! None of that crap non-dark future Salvation thing.

Kids in the helicoptering parent era really don't get into those sorts of adventures. Chunk would fit in as the normal skinny red dit user though.

Good point. If Hollywood ever remade a movie like Goonies or Stand By Me, they'd almost have to make it a period piece. Having a bunch of kids go out on their own without parental supervision in current times would be just too unbelievable.

I found the amount of 'money shots' sadly lacking in "Back Door Baby Sitters" so I'm certainly behind seeing a new version of this classic feature. I am also curious why there has not been a film adaptation of the wildly popular "Santa's Backdoor Baby".

what the hell is wrong with these people?

NONE of those movies can withstand a remake.  NONE.  They are classics for the reason they are classics.  Redoing them will piss off the fans of the original and for the most part they are stories from a completely different world in terms of comedy and moviemaking and the new younger audience just wont get it.

Big time remake of Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, or Wizard of Oz and that's it for Hollywood.

Not that WoO wasn't a remake, but it's iconic enough it's like remaking Godfather.

Idk where King Kong falls on this. It fails every time but somehow it seems remaking movies that rely on special effects as technology marches on. WoO really just needed Technicolor.

If they ever did remake Goonies, Chunk's character would be tossed - can't make fun of a fat kid. Or they could go the opposite direction and have all the kids be fat but one and have them make fun of the skinny kid. Then he can save the day by being the only one who can fit through a small crevice.
