I heard the boat is pretty fast and they'll be there in a GIF.

My inner nerd chuckled at the headline. Props to subby.

It's a pretty transparent operation, I'll gif them that.

Way better than subby^

I heard the captain lost his leg in a boating accident and had it replaced with a JPEG

I see someone's had a TIFF this morning over their submission...

2013-07-19 09:20:35 AM
How are they going to compress them all into the boat?

Hope the boat doesn't get shot at by any Russian BMPs.

You couldn't have PICT a better headline.

2013-07-19 09:32:06 AM
I bet those refugees are gonna be seriously PSD off when they get there.

2013-07-19 09:32:56 AM
Hope their aim is good, they don't want to miss their TARGA.

/sorry
/got nothin'

2013-07-19 09:35:26 AM
Well...if the refugee's don't like it that's just Tiff.

I know I'm supposed to make a digital image joke here, but the article is fairly interesting. From the sounds of it, they aren't just sending PNG refugees back home, but rather are using Manus Island as a dumping ground for whomever shows up. Kind of a bizarre policy, but PNG could never manage to say no to Australia.

/Er, sounds like they are getting a RAW deal

My HOTY favorite is "PNG becomes GIF"

What if the front falls off?

2013-07-19 09:39:27 AM
Once there, they will be transported in a Soviet-era armored personnel carrier... Probably a BMP.

2013-07-19 09:40:43 AM
targa what?

2013-07-19 09:42:13 AM
I bet people will be having FITS about this.

/had to look that one up
//was going to make a joke using TIFF

Can we ZIP it with the compression puns already?

Do they speak English there?  Or do we need an interpolator?

8 starving refugees can fit in one Papuan chair without compression, so you're really getting bit for byte value out of this storage solution

Subby's headline looks shopped. I can tell from some of the punctuation and from seeing quite a few headlines in my time.

Australia shouldn't just .bmp them off the island like that.

I am thoroughly enjoying the irony that is the Australian hang up with boat people.

As it is going, the Aussies will be sending the cricket team right with them when those fark-ups try to land back home

They can fit in one chair probably because they are sitting on each other, or as one could say, they are packed in a layered fashion.

But let's not get into further details of different color spaces, some people might find it a bit deep to comprehend.

Lots of joke opportunities with this, but in all seriousness, this shiat is farked up (as nice as Manus Island is).

Between the leader of the opposition trying to claim that every single refugee that comes to our shores is illegal and the current PM excising the mainland from the migration zone, I wouldn't be at all surprised if both parties tried to bring back the White Australia policy next election.

On the actual topic (and yes it took me longer than it should have to get the PNG joke *hangs head in shame*):

At first I didn't like the idea, but after some thought and investigation I like it - so you are a refugee, you need a new place to live, of course you go for the best place you can manage .... well about that .... Australia now has a new rule, 'If you rock up on a boat, then you will be taken to a comfortable refugee camp ... in PNG *snark* and if you are a true refugee you will be settled in a signatory country ... in this case PNG."  Now you have to admit that this is a deviously clever idea ... cept for one thing.

Over 90% of Australia refugees come in via plane ... but let us not let reality get in the way of a luvly spin.
