How about kilts?

Oh, who am I kidding? We're talking school admins. They boys will be forced to wear TWO pairs of pants for daring to defy the authority of these tin-pot dictator wannabes.

2013-07-19 09:53:08 AM
They don't want to be all hot and bothered anymore. Let the boys wear their short pants.

2013-07-19 09:53:44 AM
Dumbledore, that headmaster ain't. Dumbledore would have let them wear shorts.

I'm okay with this.

This was an urban legend at my HS.  Guys couldn't wear shorts but girls could wear skirts, so guys started wearing skirts until the policy was changed.  Don't know if it was true, but heck it was Utah, could be.
They did however ban hats until they realized the football team could make money selling hats, so they changed the policy.

I'm all in favor of school uniforms but if your school doesn't have air conditioning, you're just impeding the learning process by forcing the kids to be overheated.

2013-07-19 09:59:50 AM
I did that in high school. Got sent home and threatened with a week of suspension if I came back in anything other than pants.

Those boys should just forget their demand to wear shorts and stick with the skirts. They are infinitely more suitable for boys in warm weather than shorts.

2013-07-19 10:03:04 AM
Pfft, they did that at my high school 30 years ago,  Suspensions for some, lockdown for the rest of us.

The parents of the students bought into this, why aren't they having the uniform conversation with the administration? They are the ultimate customers.

I just checked the weather for London and the high temps are mostly in the mid-80's maybe getting to 90-91 for a few days.
This is not a heat wave.

Come to St. Louis, we can show you a heat wave.  95-97 with humidity levels of 50-60%.  I would almost kill for high temps in the high 80's.
Been hiding in the basement since summer school finished.  Still have a couple of weeks to get things finished before teaching in the fall.

I believe the official definition of a heat wave is at least three days of 90+ degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 32.22+ Degrees Celsius) in a row.  Still a farking stupid rule.  The parents should talk to the administration even though they probably won't listen, and then give their sons kilts.

You're that dumb AND a teacher?  That's not a good combo.

Well, a decent kilt does cost quite a bit more than your run-of-the-mill skirt.

It's all relative.  When I was a wee lad in boy scout camp on the Oregon Coast, temperatures were high 80's/90's that week, so they issued a "Don't be a dumbass" warning.  Wear cool clothes, drink enough water, that sort of thing.  We had a troop from Saudi Arabia there, and they were just beginning to take off their sweatshirts.

I wear long pants to work every day and I have to be outside babysitting dealing with the issues of the contractors that we have doing work for us. In the desert. In 110°F weather.

Really... Down here in Florida it gets hotter then that. We hit 99 to 100 on a regular basis (or at least feels like it due to humidity). Though this summer its been cool... Like mid 80s so I am not complaining one bit. Almost jacket weather sometimes.

Your precious snowflake may find such petty excuses to not learn, but some people's kids are more disiplined.

We did this in 1987 in California for the same reason.

I just searched the web and wikipedia actually has it listed under interesting facts...sweet.

Hmm when I was at school in the UK we had to wear trousers, shirt, and tie and dress shoes. None of this namby pandy polo shirt junk. We were sweaty and we had to like it damnit.

Guys are willing to do a lot, even/especially in conservative areas, if they want change and have 'backup'.  One dude doing it is a freak.  A dozen is a movement, and two dozen is the sports team getting in on it.

When you have the freshmen who play sports dressing up in prom dresses for fundraisers it's just lowering the bar a bit.

Luxury! Come to Georgia where it's about 90% humidity

Wear the damn pants, I have to wear a uniform at work, walk into a room after they've just spent three hours hosing everything down.  The humidity is cloying, I don't get to wear shorts.  (I really wouldn't want to anyway, I'd rather get the fudge and ice cream mix on my uniform than my legs anyway)

Well, THAT explains it. I thought my shoe cam had gone wierd.

So glad I went to school where the dress code was basically "don't wear something ridiculous, otherwise have a nut!" (I paraphrase.) I would have hated to have worn a school uniform.

You know how you tell the difference between a skirt and a kilt? If the guy looks like he'd kick your ass for calling it a skirt, it's a kilt.

Saborlas: How about kilts?

No.

My school uniform was a kilt and they are not comfortable in the heat.  A proper kilt is thick, tightly-woven wool, and a very wide band of it is buttoned and buckled so it's always on your skin making it sweaty and itchy even with your shirt tucked into it.  It's also stitched in at the top to create the pleats, and it also overlaps at the front making it a double layer at the front and around the waist.

Sure you get a bit of a breeze up the legs, but frankly cotton or linen trousers would have been far more comfortable.

Nope. It's a skirt and he's an uneducated moran with a complex about his masculinity.
