Yeah, according to Bloomberg, he's only slightly behind Puff Daddy yet well ahead most others out there.

/not surprised to hear Nas is $6 mil in debt

This is the most exciting news in music since Panic! At The Disco dropped the ! (and then brought it back a few months later).

Can he be the artist formerly known as lady Boi Jay Guwop Lion Z-Puff McGirt Bey?  That would be cool.

This is very important, and it underscores the immeasurable relevance of hip-hop culture.

Or is that "hip hop"?

Pretty sure 50 made a sh*tpile more than the 7.5 reported there on Mineral Water alone, and he doesn't strike me as the type to blow through it.

Does the Z stand for zero?

At least he didn't call himself Snoop Aardvark.

/Snoop Lion is a way dumber name than any combination that can come from Jay and Z.

//Why not just JZ?

You can't copyright that, and Mr. Z is all about getting PAID, dawg.

oryx: Does the Z stand for zero?

No. From what little I know about the fellow, he named himself after the J and Z subway lines, which service parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. I have never knowingly heard a Jay Zee "song," but I am confident in saying that they all probably suck.

Apparently the non-stop hyping of his latest CD isn't keeping enough focus on him.

the biggest redneck here: Pretty sure 50 made a sh*tpile more than the 7.5 reported there on Mineral Water alone, and he doesn't strike me as the type to blow through it.

Are you talking revenue or net? Wealth is based on what you net and if he still owed a lot of debt from earlier in his career, he might not be as wealthy as you'd expect.

Best conservative estimates are that he grossed close to $200 mil, netted just over 100 on that deal alone. He's worth a LOT more than 7.5 net, which sounds like just his music cut (which is half of what other artists get because he had to take a bad deal to get on with a label due to his public standing at the time). 7.5 off record label alone? Sounds way low, but believable given the circumstances. 7.5 net total? No fu*king way.

I agree, hyphens suck...

He's metaphorically and literally a carnival barker.

Metaphorically from barking up promotions about wealth, power, and black godfather chicanery, most of which is a put-on. His press agent/PR flunky spins a wheel to decide how much they say he's worth this year. "Whoa, landed on the $400 million mark, Jay, you sure you wanna put that in the next PR campaign?" "Murray, I told you dawg, the type of jokers who eat this sh*t up will believe whatever we tell 'em."

Literally because when he raps it's a carnival barker with no soul, no rhyme, no depth, no meaning, and goddamn just nothing funky about it.
