A not so happy anniversary here. It has been one year since the theater shooting in Aurora. I was planning on going to Batman several hours later at the same theater.Today that theater is reopened and I've seen many movies there. The scum who did that will not take any part of my life away from here.  The city of Aurora said they wanted that theater back and they got it.

Many of you may remember when this photo went viral (man comforting his arthritic, geriatric dog in the waters of Lake Superior because floating like that gave the dog relief):

i283.photobucket.com

Schoep, the dog, went over the Rainbow bridge on Wednesday at the age of 20. His servant, John, received so much money in donations for his care that he is now using the extra to help "30 or 40 Schoeps" who live with low income families in the north Wisconsin area get medical care (including geriatric care and spaying/neutering of the youngsters). John credits Schoep with saving his life when he was suicidal and wants to do what he can to help others keep their pets.

On this day in 1947 my parents were married. After my sister and I finally moved out my Dad would purchase a bottle of Champagne and take my Mom away for the weekend to celebrate. I know that even now where ever they are in the afterlife Dad has his bottle of champagne is drinking it with Mom to celebrate.

Hello, everybody.  been a busy summer around the infinity household.  i've been behind on every one of my leisurely pursuits, including caturdays.   However, I feel I would be terribly remiss if I didn't make a small announcement while the thread was still open.

We have been looking for some furkids to adopt for about a month now.  We wanted to get 2, so they could keep each other company.  Without trying to be too picky about breed, color, etc.  The important part was personality and sociability with other animals.  We also wanted fairly close to same age or litter mates if possible.  Our source is the local humane society.  We made a few visits and fell for a pair of kittens, a brother and sister, only to find they had just been taken that day.  But there were more kittens at a local pet store in an adoption partnership with the humane society being the beneficiary.  There were 2 tabbies and 2 all black kitties, the one girl kitty was one of the all black ones.  She was also the shyest and most timid of the bunch.  We wanted to take her and one of her tabby brothers, but the policy was cash only and we didn't have it on us at the time.  When we called the next day, the tabby we wanted had been adopted.  I didn't want to leave the all black brother by himself, because sadly, the black kitties just don't get taken home as readily.  So we took both of the black kitties, which actually thrilled me to no end, because I love black kitties.

They've been in our house all of 22 hours so far.  I'm about to go into a diabetic coma.  I'm so glad we took one of her brothers, because the little girl would be so lost by herself.  As it is now, she's coming out of her shell more and more.  They were both sleeping under the coffee table, out in the open and not hiding under the bed.  This is a great sign.

They are 13 weeks old, already spayed and neutered, microchipped.  They look to be in very good health, they had just arrived from the foster home an hour before we saw them in the store for the first time.  It is so nice of them to let us stay in their new house, we are very appreciative.  We feed them, give them water and toys, and clean their litter box in exchange for the privilege of living with them.

I hope to have some pictures soon.  They don't sit still terribly long when they're awake, and when they sleep snuggled up, it is hard to see them and tell them apart.  I know this already, he's going to be a catnip fiend.  He can smell the sites where we used to have catnip scented pads for their predecessor and throws himself down in a frenzy of rolling and scratching.  I need to go shopping, we need more toys, beds, scratching things, whatever our exalted rulers desire.  It is going to be mild exhausting to say the least, trying to keep up with them, but so utterly worth it.

Their names are still in the process of being finalized.  I had two picked out but the boy got an excellent suggestion from my mom that I'm all but convinced will be his new name.  I'm a firm believer in the two syllable, vowel sound sound on the second beat for a cat name.

To say that I am stoked is a minor understatement.  Our house has been so empty since Binx (she was 12 when she came to us with that name, we weren't about to change it) has been gone.  I've been dreaming about cats.  I've been reading caturday with eyes welling with tears, but then I usually do when I read the sadness that is inevitable.  For once, I am glad to share some happiness.

More to come, don't touch that dial.  Really, this is the digital age.  Who knows what that thing is actually controlling, so don't touch it, m'kay?

It was one year ago today that little Sarah left us for the Rainbow Bridge.
We know she's in a better place, but we still miss our crazy little pretty paw poo party princess.

Lots of love to you, wherever you are, sweetie pie.

What a lovely sweetie pie! Hugs and good memories to you and yours. It's so nice of you to post here to remember her. What's the funniest or sweetest Sarah story you have to tell us?

Thanks.  :)

She was such a funny little girl.  She was never "normal", as she spent the first 8 or so years of her life cranking out babies in a cage at a puppy mill.  She'd experienced little if any meaningful human contact or love.  Never been outside, never known a caring pat or a warm lap.  She had no idea about much of anything, she'd never been given a chance.  Once she was rescued and finally discovered how wonderful love and trust and snuggles and a warm comfy home were, she gradually learned how to be a dog.

One hilarious thing I remember was when we realized she'd figured out how to make a "food face".  You know the one.  That irresistible face (and posture) they make when they're watching you eat something yummy or when you're dishing out the num-nums.  Resistance is futile.  Don't know whether she learned it from watching Buddy or whether she came up with it all by herself, but it was an important milestone for her.

This is her eagerly awaiting breakfast one morning.

spinachgunk.smugmug.com

When she got older and couldn't jump off the couch by herself anymore, we'd wait until I'd placed their breakfasts on the kitchen floor, then Mr. Gunk would lift excited wiggly little Sarah off the couch and set her free to run into the kitchen!  Whee!  She would skip and bounce with dainty glee straight over to her dish and nom that food right up.  It was like those toy cars where you drag their wheels backwards over the floor a few times to rev them up, then you set them down and they take off like a rocket.  That girl loved her food.  She relished every meal and treat and tidbit as if it were her last.  It's great watching them get such pure joy out of a simple everyday thing.  :)

I sure learned a lot from her, and from all my animals.  So much love in those wonderful deep souls.

I'll just leave this here for them, in honor of all the good work they do....

We didn't wanna hear that, any more than FrancoFile's having to bury the young feral who ill-advisedly chose to nap under his mum's car. As typed, at least that one was quick. This is day 13 of 15 days off for me. We didn't go anywhere special so I spent much of the time working on home projects that have been hanging over my head and relaxing in the AC. I got just about all my chores done except for power washing and treating the deck.

All in all it's been relaxing and I can't really complain. I would have like to have spent more time out but it's been entirely too damn hot. This time I completely disconnected from work...no email or any contact whatsoever. I have no idea nor do I care what awaits me on Tuesday.

Truthfully, at this point in time, I really don't give a flying f*ck anymore what time he gets me up - he is eating really well, has not vomited his food/meds in weeks, and has actually started playing again - he has been having a blast with the toys that Mr. & Mrs. CDK sent him for his birfday (and ate an entire bag of treats) ... and while I have not been able to get him on a scale, he definitely feels heavier when I pick him up - see for yourself....

It started with a single screw.....

In early spring the screw popped that was holding my electrical weatherhead to my house. Second time it's happened....no big deal. I normally handle any and all home repair myself, but because the sheathing on the feeder cable is worn and due to be replaced (...and because I'm not feeling particularly suicidal this time around) I decided to call an electrician. My intuition was correct, the feeder cable needs to be replaced. I was ready for that but I wasn't aware that sort of repair required inspection before power is restored.....and in order to pass inspection I'll need to have my entire service replaced.

I have two fuse/breaker panels. One is near the entrance in the garage and the other is upstairs...both need to be updated along with all associated feeders. Oh, did I mention the meter socket is bad too?

I'm nervously awaiting the estimate. I'll still get other estimates but this guy comes highly recommended. He also reeeally want to buy my Lincoln. We may be able to work something out.

The biddies came in the mail on Wendsday morning, one did not survive the trip but the rest are looking really healthy and strong. My son identified the free exotic breed as a blue chochin. A large breed with feathers all the way down its legs, they will cover its feet when it is grown. I have named it Frodo.
[fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net image 850x637]

Don't they tell you what they are sending??? Or is it supposed to be a surprise?

The free one is a surprise chick. I think they are just finding a way to get rid of excess roosters, I will be very surprised if Frodo is a hen. But it is fun to try and guess what they sent.

My son was able to get the breed right away because the chicks of this breed are so distinctive. It is a very calm chick compared to the others, he kind of looks like a little penguin next to the others.

I moved them into the little house with my old crippled hen Suzy, she just gave me a WTF look when I started putting them in with her. She pecked at the few that came near her but did not make any effort to attack them. In a few days she should start to mother them. She fostered King George and Esmeralda for me when they were biddies.

I hate to even say it, cuz I don't want to be the Caturday bummer, but I know some of you guys pay attention and will wonder. My Grandma died Tuesday morning at 11:25. She couldn't talk or move, but she could hear us and would make faces or noises to respond a bit, so we made sure at least one of us was with her at all times, so she wouldn't be alone and scared. I had just finished my turn for a 2 hour nap and went to go sit with her so my mom could get a nap. I sat next to her, told her I loved her for probably the eleventybillionth time while I was sitting there holding her hand, she responded a little bit, took a few more breaths and died.

Please do not get bummed out or think "omg! what do I say?" (like I do) or hesitate to have fun and raise the basement! I like fun, I am fine, will be fine and we knew this was coming. We are sad and a bit lost, but the last few years were hard, the last couple weeks nightmarish. She actually told me about a week before she died "I'd leave but you won't let me go". Mom and I both told her that when she wanted to go, it was OK, that we'd be sad, but we'd understand and we'd be OK. We are OK for the most part, just not really sure what to do with ourselves and very sad, but at the same time we are happy that her suffering is over. Mom is going on her scheduled vacation Sunday still, because she needs it badly, and we'll figure out who is going to take her and grandpa's ashes back to Norway when we get them back. So, on with life, best we can.

Thank you to my Caturday family and all the other Farkers who have given me tons of support, lots of hugs and ear skritches for teh kittehs and pics of things to make me smile. My grandma loved you guize too, even if she didn't understand most of it. lol!

Like many girls from Europe, but in my case, just with the European parents, I studied ballet from age 3 up. I used to be able to do stuff like that! Down side - I was put on pointe so young, my bones were still forming/soft/whatever, so my toes are all deformed/bent. Those old pics of me look awesome, though. I'll have to dig some up some day. I'm sure mom has some around here somewhere.

Great pic!

And please add my condolences on the passing of your beloved Grandmother. Sounded like one helluva woman and I'm glad that you got to spend so much time with her. She'd be proud of the way you're handling her passing-- no one who loves you wants you to suffer-- your humor is a great coping mechanism. :)

Thank you. I really do appreciate all the support I've gotten from my Caturday family, and it has been passed along to my mom.

quantum_jellyroll: Anesthesia and painkillers
don't work very well on me. Redheads tend to have that problem. I'll take a painful incision over being ashes scattered on a
mountain in Alaska.

This is well known, scientifically proven and yet I still have a hell of a time finding a doctor who doesn't view it as a strange anecdote. When they had to knock me out for the MRI they were shocked at how much they had to give me, how often they had to re-up it to keep me still (I really, really don't like very tight spaces like that and am apparently quite capable of flying into a panic even while supposedly under anesthesia) and how quickly I tossed off the anesthesia. That's a really crappy way to say "I TOLD YOU SO!" but that's generally what happens to me, probably you and every other redhead as well. Since my hair is more of a mahogany color, I think they're probably wondering why I'm telling them about that redhead genetic unpleasantness (besides the skin cancer we have to be careful about and the lack of a soul, of course). I have the exact same genetic whatever causes that as your average carrot top, just like all of us with red-tinged hair do, no matter what the shade.

Also, I'm glad to hear your mom is doing OK. I'm shocked - SHOCKED! - she had never had hushpuppies before. What's next? Pudding? That would be almost criminal. You make your Mommy some pudding, ya hear? Some CORN PUDDING! Gosh, make me some while you're at it. I'm beat and I've got a powerful hunger for someone who's been snacking all day and who is about to attack the treat basket like a wild animal.

There's a cheesy calibration tool included with 7 (Start -> control panel -> display -> calibrate color) or you can google for an online calibration site. One of these can at least get your display in the ballpark.

I'm looking for a good one myself.

I did some horse-trading to get my first one years ago. It worked fine with Vista,
The software absolutely refuses to install, it says there are known incompatibilities
and there is no software upgrade.

Here are the calibrators I'm considering.
Either the Pro or Express models.

Oh, you're looking for a CALIBRATOR and not a Calibrator.
My bad. I forgot you have that camera that takes great pictures. :o)

I've never seen a calibration appliance like that...I was thinking more along the lines of software and comparison strips. Very Nice! (and not too expensive!)

You wouldn't happen to have a birthday coming up in the near future, would you?

I am going to call it "Caturday Mewsings" and I'll just start with the earliest ones that I have. I think. Anyone have a recommendation for a site to use? There seems to be a zillion out there. Most that I've seen are for regular books. Dunno if I could format my poesy to look right etc...and then I'll have to do a cover! aaaahhhh!

Speaking of poesy...before the end of the thread, I promise! RL needs to settle down and let me think!

To be honest, I never had that first problem with Vista.
Everything worked, everything ran, no surprises, no bluescreens.
I couldn't understand what all the negative press was about.
It was pretty stable and seemed bulletproof for me.

I have to admit that was my experience with Vista too - it seemed okay to me. I'll have to deny it if you tell any of my techie friends I said that though.

At least he goes from Vista to Win7, I'm have to go from Vista to Win8. Although I've found a win8 expert who's cute and has an Australian accent - I think I'll be needing a lot of help very soon.

You are not the first I have heard this from.  A Chiro friend of mine had a lovely little old lady patient who fell into the bath tub she was cleaning and never again had sciatic pain.

Yeah, I know we have discussed this on Caturday before, it just still fascinates me that the first thing a doctor will recommend is a series of stretching exercises. Hey doc, I can barely stand without screaming, and you want me to do WHAT with my leg?!?

 [i415.photobucket.com image 275x142]

A couple of years ago I had horrible sciatic pain, I could hardly walk, but after carrying two 40 lb. boxes of kitty litter from the garage into my house the pain went away completely and hasn't returned.

I guess I was Dr. Lucy's first (and only) successful cure.

Yay!  I just got a nasty whiplash and our parrot only had a little scrape by his eye.  All in all, we are all very lucky.

It has been very warm and humid out here this summer and I have to be careful not to lock an animal somewhere that gets too warm or has no water. So this afternoon I decided to bath the horses, I had to get the special shampoo, the iodine scrub soap and the conditioner out of the tack room. I washed Mountain first and then got Castle all done. After I rinsed out all the sponges, brushes, and combs I opened the tack room door and Tom came out meowing! He is so lucky I don't have more horses. It gets up to 100 in the tack room and I don't go in there very often.

[i384.photobucket.com image 500x375]

*waves* Hai! Busy over here, too. Trying to do a Super Secret Lair of Infinite Doom project (rearranging my room), cleaning Grandma's room out at least part way so Mom doesn't have to dig through the medical stuff, just the happy memories and also building a couple sets of shelves and rearranging the garage - all while my Mom is on vacation. So, she should have the best vacation and return from vacation EVER, all things considered.

[www.funportion.com image 211x350]

I have been unpacking boxes that have been packed for over five years. They were packed up and ready to move into a house that was never built. So now I have my own place and time to open up the time capsules. I have been finding some neat old pictures. I found my daughters 2nd grade class picture and discovered that she used red nail polish to carefully remove about five or six of her classmates. I also found an awesome old picture of my son on the little 10 hand pony that he used to ride.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: I hate to even say it, cuz I don't want to be the Caturday bummer, but I know some of you guys pay attention and will wonder.

My grandma loved you guize too, even if she didn't understand most of it. lol!

Now, on wit teh kritter pics!
[data.whicdn.com image 500x768]

Well....I know you had said it was coming and you were preparing as best as you could. I know you know we are all here for you.
I hope when she did go it was with both middle fingers sticking straight up and even if not spoken verbally she was screaming to everyone and everything that had wronged her that they go EFF themselves. At least that is what I am going to imagine that is what she did.
You did good hun. You did real good and I know she knows that too.

So true... I remember when you lost Alice!  It seems like so long ago now.   Sigh.

Everything else in life?  Faster every day!  Quit trying to keep up a long time ago.  :-S

Alice was such a lovely girl.  Many cats have a way of looking eeevil sometimes, but in every photo of Alice I've ever seen, she's got such a calm, kind look on her face, I can't believe she ever did anything mean or naughty ever!  All the best to her, wherever she may be.

*Hugs*

You're correct. Alice was a matron. She was a head caretaker and knew what was best for everyone. I can't think of a single bad thing she's ever done (on purpose.)

Each and every one of them are unique, There will never be another Alice, just like there will never be another Sarah. We just need to be thankful that we were gifted with their friendship and keep in mind there are more unique personalities waiting to be discovered.

Not weird at all...
It doesn't seem like Sarah has been gone a year already. Yet we lost Alice last July right before you lost Sarah, and that seems like so long ago.
Time perception is strange.

Some things you just can't explain, and wouldn't want to even if you could.

QJ made this adorable LOL of my favourite picture of Sarah a long time ago:

spinachgunk.smugmug.com

I keep one copy of this lol in my lolcats folder on my computer.  It is the source folder for my computer's screen saver.  The screen saver randomly chooses a few dozen lols at a time to cycle through, out of nearly 3000 in the whole folder.

Somehow, this one shows up in the rotation almost every single time!

It's as if she's out there somewhere, making sure we see it a lot since she knows we like it so much.  It always makes us smile.

I know it's weird, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it.   :)

It was one year ago today that little Sarah left us for the Rainbow Bridge.
We know she's in a better place, but we still miss our crazy little pretty paw poo party princess.

Lots of love to you, wherever you are, sweetie pie.

Amazing how our furry little friends steal into our hearts. I am sure that Sarah enjoyed her time with you immensely. And you know, when you hear that faint toe nail clck, or catch a glimpse of fur..she is checking on you, reminding you to smile, and love again.

yobbery: Spinnyr: Here's a link (I hope) to what I'm considering...The whole back yard is surrounded by that brick wall/fence.
Anyone have experience with these 'containment' systems? Comments? Suggestions?

http://www.catfencein.com/

I wouldn't recommend it. A determined feline would find a way around that in no time.
Your wall doesn't look tall enough anyway. They could probably jump over that without touching it.

However, I do like what you've done with your current catio!

Yeah, I like the catio set-up. I was purty darned proud of my 5'3", buck-10 self, when that creation was done! It's wonderful to be able to brush 'em and clip the talons outside. It's just such a big 'eyesore' .... (and the room-mate does not like it).

The brick wall is 6feet. Info on the research I've done shows that the netting sticks out 24-36 inches at an upward angle...no visible 'landing spot' for the cat to leave the yard...and no landing spot (so to speak) for outside 'trespassers'

Squirrels have starred in Patrick McDonnell's Mutts  daily comic strip almost all  this week -- flinging nuts at superheroes.
Also read, in a  Care2Causes article quite recently, that to improve your mood it takes but 1 more hour of sleep per night.  Plumbicon can get that quite easily, & often does sleep in because he can. Right now I'd lurv a nap with a warm cat or 3 -- may be able to manage that fairly shortly.

Well, she's got to maintain her Rubenesque figure!

I guess the avocado thing makes sense, though. They're nutrient and calorie dense, so from a survival standpoint, they're awesome. Plus the texture is probably like a nice pate style gooshy fud, so... Avocados it is!

Whoever ate them needed 'em more than I did, especially since I was gonna tempura them up. I also have gained such weight since the restaurant closed over a year ago now that I need to either go back to hardcore, under-staffed restaurant work or adjust my eating habits. Also, I don't wanna look like this well-fed beauty:

neurofunkin: Well that was easy. I'm going to meet a lady that breeds Savannah cats who happens to live about 2 miles from me. She has kittens from an F6 generation available. They are expensive though. Still not sure about this, but I get to meet some Savannah kitties!

/I feel like I'm cheating, I work at a shelter and I'm now going to a breeder to inquire about purchasing a cat.

As long as they are a responsible breeder I don't see a problem with purchasing a cat.
I have only one cat ,Gremie. But I have had many dogs, walk ins, humane society, hunting dogs, and show dogs. Some cost money but all were loved and I hope I was a responsible owner . I only had one litter(on purpose) and I had families for the pups.
Sometimes you just have to get that animal you've always wanted so you don't regret it later , just make sure it really is something you can bring into your home. I still want an Irish Wolfhound , I may have the yard for it but I look around my house and tell myself there is not enough room for both of us.

Spinnyr: The "Beauty-Butt", Luscious ... Her eyes are light-light blue, and sometimes---don't know why--- they turn really red.

Technically, because the light of the flash occurs too fast for the pupil to close, much of the very bright light from the flash passes into the eye through the pupil, reflects off the fundus at the back of the eyeball and out through the pupil. The camera records this reflected light. The main cause of the red color is the ample amount of blood in the choroid which nourishes the back of the eye and is located behind the retina. The blood in the retinal circulation is far less than in the choroid, and plays virtually no role. The eye contains several photostable pigments that all absorb in the short wavelength region, and hence contribute somewhat to the red eye effect.

Because all white cats are basically furry little terminators.

Wasn't there an article a year or so ago about people making sweaters for penguins for (???) ... some medical reason, I'm sure. I wonder if these are two of the lucky little fashionistas.

Yes, your memory is correct. The penguins are called "little penguins" and are from Australia. Their migration route takes them through an area where they can get caught up in oil spills. They often cannot be cleaned because it stresses them so much that someone got the idea to knit these sweaters to cover the oil soaked feathers. The ones that can get cleaned lose their natural oils that insulate them so the sweaters help them too. When a news report went out and mentioned that the rescue could use more sweaters, they received so many that they had to tell people to stop. Over the years, they used up the stash (more oil soaked penguins plus the rescue mascot is a life sized Little Penguin toy so they started selling the toy with an optional sweater) and about a year or two ago, the call went out for more sweaters.

OlderGuy: The upgraded electrical codes in Virginia say that the panel has to be within 6 feet of the meterbase.. the older houses have panels all over.. some serious rewiring is required.. the panel in this house was in the kitchen.. two- wire receptacles, nothing grounded... started rewiring immediately, did a temporary panel in the basement and ran everything to that... ran conduit underground from the pole in.. set a new meterbase ( provided by the power co.), installed a new breaker panel.. routed the service cable so I could tie in the generator box later... the utility pulled in the new service lines, I got it inspected.. stuck with the 100 amp service, as everything but the AC runs on gas... installed the generator later... still changing out some older circuits.. luckily I have a basement and can get to everything without crawling around.... don't know what the codes are where you are, but you may be able to subfeed the upstairs panel from the main... otherwise you have some fishin' to do, to bring all of the circuits to the main panel.....

Around here the work can only be done by a registered electrician. Aside from that the only thing that needs to be relocated to adhere to local code is the service attachment to the house. Current code states it can't be within 3 feet of a window. I can see why....if the weatherhead sags anymore i could easily grab it from the window. :o) It's already at a corner so we just need to wing it around to the other side. The rest is good where it is.

I'm still concerned about the fishing they'll need to do to get the new feed to the second panel. This house was built in the early 50s and everything including the garage is finished. There will also be some skullduggery going on around the second panel as there's a pocket door nearby.

yobbery: It started with a single screw.....

[www.smugmug.com image 500x362]

Oh man, I feel you on that!  We finally got the call from the electrician....my panel can stay where it is (in a storage closet) but there can't be anything in front of it for 3 ft.  There is a closet rod full of coats right in front of it.  So....I will pull everything out, and remove the closet rod.  Once it all passes, I will put it all back up.  I have NO storage up here.... estimate for all of it is about 5 grand.  That is to replace both services...wiring and panel boxes.  I'm glad that I rent.

The "Beauty-Butt", Luscious (7 yrs old). I have very few pix of her 'full on face'...but quite the collection of shots of her ears, neck, back, tail, side, butt.

Her eyes are light-light blue, and sometimes---don't know why--- they turn really red.

She can whoop that tail around, I'll tell ya!

She sat there and stared at the new 'drinkwell' for quite a long while.

After two weeks and numerous installs, I'm pretty good at Win 7.
I even have it looking familiar!
No, you cannot have!

I lived with Vista for 5 years, I'll figure out Windows 8.

OlderGuy: sherpa18: predle: This is me trying to figure out Windows 8. About the only thing I've been able to figure out is how to post to Caturday.

There is an add-on available that will restore your start/menu button so that you can find stuff. As I don't use 8 myself, I have no experience with it, but I have heard good things about it.

[i415.photobucket.com image 328x444]

Don't know for a fact, but have heard that service pack 1 for Win8 is out... supposedly has a fix for the menu issue.... couldn't find it in MS d/l center....

I checked on microsoft's website and there aren't any SP's available for Win8 yet - I'll keep checking. I've lived with Vista for five years. If I can do that I think I'll probably be able to deal with Win8. All I need is time and patience, neither of which I have an overabundance of right now

Just realized that I don't have any pix of Thomas standing up. Actually, he doesn't do much of that. The vet (Sainted.... from Caring Hands, here in Vegas) that came out here (yes...to the house...yay!)...said, "No, he's not big. No, he's not overweight. He's fat."

Link

[farm6.staticflickr.com image 500x333]
King George and Li-Ion

Would that cause troubles with King George as Frodo gets older?

farm3.staticflickr.com
There is always the slim chance that Frodo is a girl, if he decides to be a roo my son has dibs on him. When George came in the garage he went up to the cage and checked out the little ones. They looked so small next to him. They all stopped peeping and stood in awe as the looked them them over.
I moved them into the new little hen house with old Suzy last evening. Today she is keeping an eye on them but they are not too sure of the giant chicken in their world. Hatchery chicks have never seen an adult bird. They have much to learn.

I am SO proud of this photo.
It took them only 6 weeks to train me to ...roll out the rug (aka trough), ring the bell to 'awaken/arouse' them, and get 8 bowls filled with their treat of gooshey foods. ( I split 3 cans 8 ways... and give the 'old man' a tsp &½ of baby food)

tigerose: Real Women Drink Akvavit I am sorry for your loss. She joins the ancestors, there to feast and tell tales for all eternity.

Hugs to you and yours.

She's probably one of my disir now, just the "Why is it always so dark in here? Open the blinds and get some light in here!" or "you can buy clothes that AREN'T black, you know. What's wrong with pink?" or "I don't like that man. He needs a hair cut. Are those tattoos? Dear Jesus! Is he GERMAN?!?" variety instead of the helpful advice variety. LOL! I love my Grandma and her stubborn self. Actually, she was Lutheran, so they're probably swilling coffee and trying to convince the big dude/dudette/whatevers may or may not be there/wherever to go easy on the Heathen granddaughter.

For those unfamiliar with disir, think "ancestral mothers", but the original Germanic tribes version (Scandinavians being one of the original Germanic tribes and blah, blah, blah).

Cat For Adoption - Please Help - DC/VA/MD- Can Travel (Re-Post w/ Updates)

img.fark.net

Hi Caturday Farkers - I am in need of help in re-homing one of our cats, and am hoping someone on here may be able to help. The cat in question is one of the best cats in the world and we are sure whoever adopts her will be thrilled to have her. She's the sweetest and lowest maintenance cat I've ever seen. She's a fluffy marshmallow cat that loves cuddles and cheap cat food.

Question: Why is one of the best cats in the world up for adoption?
Answer: We have three cats - Momma-Cat, Beast-Cat and Douche-Cat. We adopted them as a package deal in Dubai when some asshole tried to drown some kittens outside our apartment; one morning we woke up to the sound of Momma-Cat screaming over the bucket her kittens were in. A quick fishing trip later we were the proud owners of two kittens and a momma cat. They all got on great until two years ago when we took the momma cat to get her teeth cleaned - from the moment she got home she has been in a fight with one of her kittens, Beast-Cat (now grown up into a 16 pound monster twice his momma's size). We have tried everything but with no luck and have come to the conclusion we need to find her a new home as the regular ass-kickings she's getting are taking their toll on her.

Question: Why is she up for adoption now and not a year ago?
Answer: We recently had a baby, and since then are no longer able to give the cats, who are separated in different parts of the house most of the time, the attention they need. Further - a couple of times they have gotten in fights near the baby and it's a risk we can't continue to take.

Question: Why isn't Beast-Cat up for adoption instead?
Answer: Beast-Cat is up for adoption if we can't find a home for Momma-Cat.

Question: Beast-Cat sounds scary, will he eat me?
Answer: No. Beast-Cat is a gentle giant. He likes pats and playing fetch. He is a lot more energetic than Momma-Cat and more vocal, although despite his size he has a tiny kitten mew. He is pretty smart for a cat and can open doors. He looks similar to Momma-Cat but has a pink nose.

Question: I am a masochist and don't have any easily breakable possessions I care about, is Douche-Cat up for adoption?
Answer: Sure, although only once we find a new home for one of the other two as he tends to be a calming influence on the others. Douche-Cat is a small and wiry little bastard with a speckled coat and white paws/belly. He looks like he's wearing a tweed tuxedo. He is very energetic, tends to knock things off shelves and has a surprisingly loud and unusually jarring meow. He doesn't like being picked up and will hunt you for a few days after if you try. He's not keen on pats but if you make a fist and hold it out he will nuzzle it, like he's rubbing faces with a cat. He enjoys playing with ribbon-on-a-stick toys, which will be provided.

Question: Why not put her in a Cat Shelter?
Answer: She does not do well in cages and living in one would be a strain on her that we could not inflict on her, and would also make it hard to find someone to adopt her as they would not see her at her best.

Question: Have you tried X?
Answer: Yes

Question: Is she house trained?
Answer: Yes. They are all in good health and have the usual cat vaccines. They have not been de-clawed and will come with a scratching post.

Question: In the photo she looks like she's at the Vet - is she dying?
Answer: No - She was losing patches of hair due to over-cleaning herself out of anxiety due daily ass-kicking by Beast-Cat. She is recovered now as we have completely separated them into different parts of the house, a solution that is not possible in the long term as it basically involves locking her in the bedroom in the attic, which isn't fair on her and she deserves a home where she can get the love and attention she deserves.

Question: What is the return policy?
Answer: Our goal is to find her a new home where she will be happy, not just dump her. If the adoption does not work we will be happy to take her back and try to re-home her elsewhere.
