At actual temp threadsend, now we got Lights back after 2 hrs without.  Rained heavily, thunderboomers that frightened none, mayhap near enough strike to put house in dark.  Did get my nap with warm cats, yay. Those In Charge been fed, now Plumbicon's home from afternoon at Lodge I may seek summat for us to nom upon. Lights returned mere seconds  before he mashed button to open garage door.

If your pc had the biscuit after a power surge/thunderstorm, it may just be a couple of capacitors on the motherboard that need to be replaced.  I know in my city there are a few people involved with our Linux user group (of which I am a member) that will re-solder new ones as a little side business.  Likely to cost you $15 to $50, if you can find a local person.  Worth looking into and getting an opinion (you can usually see right away if some capacitors are bulging and not looking normal).  If you have some experience with soldering, you may want to try yourself (with some help from le internets).

I had the same thing happen to me last fall due to power surges in the building (the wiring in here is not great despite the building being only 30 years old).  After I got the computer settled out, the first thing I did was go to Costco and buy APC-brand UPS.

Wait, this is Caturday.

We know she's in a better place, but we still miss our crazy little pretty paw poo party princess.

Lots of love to you, wherever you are, sweetie pie.

Amazing how our furry little friends steal into our hearts. I am sure that Sarah enjoyed her time with you immensely. And you know, when you hear that faint toe nail clck, or catch a glimpse of fur..she is checking on you, reminding you to smile, and love again.

Some things you just can't explain, and wouldn't want to even if you could.

QJ made this adorable LOL of my favourite picture of Sarah a long time ago:

spinachgunk.smugmug.com

I keep one copy of this lol in my lolcats folder on my computer.  It is the source folder for my computer's screen saver.  The screen saver randomly chooses a few dozen lols at a time to cycle through, out of nearly 3000 in the whole folder.

Somehow, this one shows up in the rotation almost every single time!

It's as if she's out there somewhere, making sure we see it a lot since she knows we like it so much.  It always makes us smile.

I know it's weird, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it.   :)

It probably will depend on what route it took to reach the computer.. being a desktop, you are probably hardwired to the router/ modem.. if they are still up, then through the power line.. first item in line is the power supply.. not expensive.. usually the first thing to go.. may not have gotten through to the motherboard.. I have lightning arrestors on my panel and meterbase.. also a good surge protector before the UPS.. cable line coming in is grounded outside and in.. and there are cat5 connections on the surge protector also.... you can look at the motherboard by removing the side cover .. usually the left one.. if the power supply is good, you should see a small light on the board, usually on the right side..  capacitors are a good indicator of damage.. round, 1/2 to 3/4" tall.. top is aluminum with three or four cut marks in it.. if the top is flat, you are usually ok.. if the top is bulged or open, they are blown.. pressure relief device to prevent worse damage....  if you have questions, EIP..

It doesn't seem like Sarah has been gone a year already. Yet we lost Alice last July right before you lost Sarah, and that seems like so long ago.

I'm so jealous of you guize with the photophiliac kittehs. GoGo Beastie RUNS and would put a hole in a door to get away if she had to when she just sees my camera. Not that I've figured out how to use the obviously-smarter-than-me thing, or I'd have pictures of our skwerls and tons of food porn. *sigh* Some things I'm good at, a lot of things I'm not so good at, and that camera falls in the "not so good at" category.

Had a heckuva T-storm here about 6pm. Temp dropped almost 20 degrees in no time at all, wind howled about 40 mph, and it rained buckets for about 10 minutes. Sun came back out but temp stayed at 66. Still 75+ inside though  :)

According to the person who is repairing it in exchange for fresh homemade cookies, its the ethernet card thingy.  Everything else seems to work ok.  As he is a former computer tech I'm taking his word for it, my expertise with computers only goes as far as being able to take one out of the box and set it up.  Also have someone coming to remove the old satellite dish from the roof, as it seems to be the object attracting said lightning (not the first time its happened).  So the only unfixable item out of the many struck (one cable box, modem, router, 3 TVs, power brick to X-box, and computer) is the old dvd player that read all country codes :(  Now i have to find a new way to watch my Jay Chou movies   At least the week that nothing worked I had the cats to entertain me.  And books.   Lots and lots of books..

gremlin1: neurofunkin: Well that was easy. I'm going to meet a lady that breeds Savannah cats who happens to live about 2 miles from me. She has kittens from an F6 generation available. They are expensive though. Still not sure about this, but I get to meet some Savannah kitties!

/I feel like I'm cheating, I work at a shelter and I'm now going to a breeder to inquire about purchasing a cat.

As long as they are a responsible breeder I don't see a problem with purchasing a cat.
I have only one cat ,Gremie. But I have had many dogs, walk ins, humane society, hunting dogs, and show dogs. Some cost money but all were loved and I hope I was a responsible owner . I only had one litter(on purpose) and I had families for the pups.
Sometimes you just have to get that animal you've always wanted so you don't regret it later , just make sure it really is something you can bring into your home. I still want an Irish Wolfhound , I may have the yard for it but I look around my house and tell myself there is not enough room for both of us.

I want one too :)

Eli haz a sense of humor...he waits until I am settled nicely in my chair, book open, or ipad at the ready, then and only then does he yowl to go outside. He will persist, until you want to put on the noise cancelling head phones. I get up, open the door..and he dithers.."Should I go out, or stay in..hmmmm" at which time I apply my bare tootsies to his furry hin end, and "help" him make a decision. :)

The foxtrot continues at a more languid pace. (And, to clarify, noone named Charlie has cancer. Charlie is merely the bandleader. "180 bpm" refers to the intensity of the tempo he called.). Dad's been discharged following brain surgery, and is staying with relatives who live handy to the hospital. There is still no telling what the future holds. The biopsy is still not back yet.

Wait and see, wait and see. It's like watching the dealer turn over the cards, not knowing if an ace is coming or a Joker. For now, the most stressful part is past. I'm returning home to catch my breath while I can.
