neurofunkin: Qwestshun for Caturday Farkers

Does anyone have experience with Savannah Cats? I met someone that has one through the shelter I work at (The Haven) but they were given the cat by a family member so they didn't know much about the breed. Anyway, this cat was freaking awesome! I'm totally in love.

Hi, from what I've read, if they get bored, they can get in trouble (curiosity) , they're very active and need lots of exercise like being walked like a dog, or a big cage to walk around in.

Check this Wikipedia article Savannah Cat

I remember reading about this before.  What a wonderful guy.  Also, am currently reading A Street Cat named Bob by James Bowen and loving it.  People who hate on poor folks for having animals are douchebags.  We may not always have the money to buy the most expensive toys/food etc... but we love our furbabies as much, if not sometimes more, because for some of us, the animal is the only true friend we have.

I know what you mean. I am so glad that Schoep's person has decided that helping people down on their luck care for their pets is a fitting legacy. Over the years, and especially recently, my sweeties have been the only thing to keep me going.

Dragon: I am thrilled to death that you are feeling better! Wooohoooooo.

Salem Witch: OlderGuy: John Buck 41: gremlin1: it's started raining and the temp has dropped to a bearable 70

Already 80 here at 9am   :)

86 here, going to 94.. TStorms this afternoon.

OK, time for everyone to come on over here. We'll move the furniture around to make room.

Maybe we can run up to the mountain and play in the snow.

That looks good! The cool front that was supposed to come through yesterday is taking its time. We are at 84 but the humidity has dropped some (it was supposed to be mid-70's today).

Well that was easy. I'm going to meet a lady that breeds Savannah cats who happens to live about 2 miles from me. She has kittens from an F6 generation available. They are expensive though. Still not sure about this, but I get to meet some Savannah kitties!

/I feel like I'm cheating, I work at a shelter and I'm now going to a breeder to inquire about purchasing a cat.

I have been setting the critter cam to watch over my chickens at night. I turned it to the driveway to try and catch my midnight dog. He comes by and walks around almost every evening between 10pm and 2am. It seems I am getting a lot of selfies instead of that dog.

As long as they are a responsible breeder I don't see a problem with purchasing a cat.
I have only one cat ,Gremie. But I have had many dogs, walk ins, humane society, hunting dogs, and show dogs. Some cost money but all were loved and I hope I was a responsible owner . I only had one litter(on purpose) and I had families for the pups.
Sometimes you just have to get that animal you've always wanted so you don't regret it later , just make sure it really is something you can bring into your home. I still want an Irish Wolfhound , I may have the yard for it but I look around my house and tell myself there is not enough room for both of us.

Yehi 'or. Let there be light. This from the now disbanded B'nai Tzedek synagogue that was on Kugler Mill Rd in Cincinnati.  Ran out of members.  Daughter of they who commissioned this for its first home brought it to Valley Temple where my chorus rehearses. It went up in the area where we rehearse in May. Temple's doing a rummage sale tomorrow -- had hoped to take some of the Ancestral Clutter to be sold in it, but not looking as if that'll happen this time.  Mayhap next  time.  B'nai Tzedek btw translates to Children of Kindness.
Izzat good or what??
Been meaning to bring this here to share since taking 1st pic back in May, found the Round Tuit at long last.

I agree 100%. I have had shelter kitties but always wanted an exotic looking cat I could name Mandu. I found a Serengeti breeder (was looking at Ocicats too) and bought the big goofball familiar to the Caturday crowd:

i283.photobucket.com

I also always wanted a Maine Coon and so, when I was down to one cat, I bought Mika:

i283.photobucket.com

They are great cats and I am so glad I got them. I suspect that when it comes time to add a cat again, I'll be back to rescues.

Whatever works for you as long as you are responsible and support breeders and shelters that are reponsible.

That's great advice for people thinking about getting any pets! Thanks. My job consists of screening applications for adoption and I would say the majority that are not approved are ones that the people just don't match up with the type of animal i.e. wants to get a puppy but they work 10 hours a day and won't have time to spend training/socializing/giving attention the animals deserve.

/Had an application last week on a very high energy Border Collie from someone living in a 1br apartment that was not home 12 hours per day.
//People get super offended when you tell them that you don't think they would be the right match for a certain dog.

A not so happy anniversary here. It has been one year since the theater shooting in Aurora. I was planning on going to Batman several hours later at the same theater.Today that theater is reopened and I've seen many movies there. The scum who did that will not take any part of my life away from here.  The city of Aurora said they wanted that theater back and they got it.

Well, she's got to maintain her Rubenesque figure!

I guess the avocado thing makes sense, though. They're nutrient and calorie dense, so from a survival standpoint, they're awesome. Plus the texture is probably like a nice pate style gooshy fud, so... Avocados it is!

Whoever ate them needed 'em more than I did, especially since I was gonna tempura them up. I also have gained such weight since the restaurant closed over a year ago now that I need to either go back to hardcore, under-staffed restaurant work or adjust my eating habits. Also, I don't wanna look like this well-fed beauty:

Also read, in a  Care2Causes article quite recently, that to improve your mood it takes but 1 more hour of sleep per night.  Plumbicon can get that quite easily, & often does sleep in because he can. Right now I'd lurv a nap with a warm cat or 3 -- may be able to manage that fairly shortly.

I wouldn't recommend it. A determined feline would find a way around that in no time.
Your wall doesn't look tall enough anyway. They could probably jump over that without touching it.

However, I do like what you've done with your current catio!

Real Women Drink Akvavit: I hate to even say it, cuz I don't want to be the Caturday bummer, but I know some of you guys pay attention and will wonder. My Grandma died Tuesday morning at 11:25. She couldn't talk or move, but she could hear us and would make faces or noises to respond a bit, so we made sure at least one of us was with her at all times, so she wouldn't be alone and scared. I had just finished my turn for a 2 hour nap and went to go sit with her so my mom could get a nap. I sat next to her, told her I loved her for probably the eleventybillionth time while I was sitting there holding her hand, she responded a little bit, took a few more breaths and died.

Please do not get bummed out or think "omg! what do I say?" (like I do) or hesitate to have fun and raise the basement! I like fun, I am fine, will be fine and we knew this was coming. We are sad and a bit lost, but the last few years were hard, the last couple weeks nightmarish. She actually told me about a week before she died "I'd leave but you won't let me go". Mom and I both told her that when she wanted to go, it was OK, that we'd be sad, but we'd understand and we'd be OK. We are OK for the most part, just not really sure what to do with ourselves and very sad, but at the same time we are happy that her suffering is over. Mom is going on her scheduled vacation Sunday still, because she needs it badly, and we'll figure out who is going to take her and grandpa's ashes back to Norway when we get them back. So, on with life, best we can.

Thank you to my Caturday family and all the other Farkers who have given me tons of support, lots of hugs and ear skritches for teh kittehs and pics of things to make me smile. My grandma loved you guize too, even if she didn't understand most of it. lol!

Now, on wit teh kritter pics!

Yeah, I like the catio set-up. I was purty darned proud of my 5'3", buck-10 self, when that creation was done! It's wonderful to be able to brush 'em and clip the talons outside. It's just such a big 'eyesore' .... (and the room-mate does not like it).

The brick wall is 6feet. Info on the research I've done shows that the netting sticks out 24-36 inches at an upward angle...no visible 'landing spot' for the cat to leave the yard...and no landing spot (so to speak) for outside 'trespassers'

Yes, I didn't see that configuration at first. If you can get it up to about 8' or so it might work, but I would still be paranoid. I think it depends mostly on how determined the cat is to escape.

Nathan can jump up on a six foot fridge like it's nothing, and my Jasper would go clear to an 8' ceiling after that damn red dot.
