It started with a single screw.....

In early spring the screw popped that was holding my electrical weatherhead to my house. Second time it's happened....no big deal. I normally handle any and all home repair myself, but because the sheathing on the feeder cable is worn and due to be replaced (...and because I'm not feeling particularly suicidal this time around) I decided to call an electrician. My intuition was correct, the feeder cable needs to be replaced. I was ready for that but I wasn't aware that sort of repair required inspection before power is restored.....and in order to pass inspection I'll need to have my entire service replaced.

I have two fuse/breaker panels. One is near the entrance in the garage and the other is upstairs...both need to be updated along with all associated feeders. Oh, did I mention the meter socket is bad too?

I'm nervously awaiting the estimate. I'll still get other estimates but this guy comes highly recommended. He also reeeally want to buy my Lincoln. We may be able to work something out.

After two weeks and numerous installs, I'm pretty good at Win 7.
I even have it looking familiar!
No, you cannot have!

I lived with Vista for 5 years, I'll figure out Windows 8.OlderGuy: sherpa18: predle: This is me trying to figure out Windows 8. About the only thing I've been able to figure out is how to post to Caturday.

There is an add-on available that will restore your start/menu button so that you can find stuff. As I don't use 8 myself, I have no experience with it, but I have heard good things about it.

[i415.photobucket.com image 328x444]

Don't know for a fact, but have heard that service pack 1 for Win8 is out... supposedly has a fix for the menu issue.... couldn't find it in MS d/l center....

I checked on microsoft's website and there aren't any SP's available for Win8 yet - I'll keep checking. I've lived with Vista for five years. If I can do that I think I'll probably be able to deal with Win8. All I need is time and patience, neither of which I have an overabundance of right now

.[predle576.smugmug.com image 800x600]

SP for Win8 is scheduled for release this fall..  Upgrade.. Win8.1.. free as SP to Win8 users, will replace Win8.0 to buyers....

ArmednHammered: Been a really long week in the basement of Mordor. Told the boss I'd had enough for a week and left at 2:00.
Went out and found some of the "Farking Wheaton w00tstout" made by Drew, Wil Wheaton and Greg Koch of Stone Brewery. I have to say, it's pretty damn tasty. It's dark, thick, hasn't been hopped to death and best of all it's 13% alcohol, what's not to like? I grabbed three of the 24 Oz. bottles and I don't expect them to last the night. ;-) It's good enough that I'll buy a case if my local store has one available.

Oh man, I feel you on that!  We finally got the call from the electrician....my panel can stay where it is (in a storage closet) but there can't be anything in front of it for 3 ft.  There is a closet rod full of coats right in front of it.  So....I will pull everything out, and remove the closet rod.  Once it all passes, I will put it all back up.  I have NO storage up here.... estimate for all of it is about 5 grand.  That is to replace both services...wiring and panel boxes.  I'm glad that I rent.

I had a new roof put on about 7 years ago and had to have the county inspector out to approve it. The farkhead actually had the nerve to ask where the coffee was at 1:00 in the afternoon (he was supposed to show up at 09:00). I told him to go to the doughnut shop or show up on time if he wanted free coffee. He started to biatch until I showed him the digital recorder I was holding.

When I took a few college courses about 8 years ago I had to show proof of immunizations like any other new student. Understandable, but my parents didn't have/couldn't find my shot records from when I was a kid (30 years later) and my Dr. from that time is dead. I ended up having to get blood tests done to prove I'm still immune.

Around here the work can only be done by a registered electrician. Aside from that the only thing that needs to be relocated to adhere to local code is the service attachment to the house. Current code states it can't be within 3 feet of a window. I can see why....if the weatherhead sags anymore i could easily grab it from the window. :o) It's already at a corner so we just need to wing it around to the other side. The rest is good where it is.

I'm still concerned about the fishing they'll need to do to get the new feed to the second panel. This house was built in the early 50s and everything including the garage is finished. There will also be some skullduggery going on around the second panel as there's a pocket door nearby.
