FTA: "Because dogs do not sweat, the only way for them to cool off is panting,"

Spray with hose?
Swim in lake?
Under shade tree?
Move to Canada?

I remember the odd time my dog got overheated. You could tell it was bad when she didn't go after the tennis ball but would just lie there panting. We'd just get the hose and soak her.

We did that to a friends dog but we put her in a kiddie pool. She loved it and got her pep back quick. And when she got too hot she would jump in the pool.

It gets pretty scary. They go from running around to looking like they're about to die in just a few minutes. It all had to do with her inability to not chase a tennis ball. She'd just run till she passed out.

At Disney's Animal Kingdom the rocks the Lions sit on have vents for AC blowing on the Lions and the rocks themselves have a network of imbedded liquid cooling tubes so the sun doesn't get the rock too hot..and they get steak twice a day.
Say what you will about Zoos PeTa people, those animals hit the jackpot.

I get that some animals are not used to heat... but when you're talking lions and tigers... aren't they kinda built for intense heat?

I'm all for making sure animals are safe... that just came across strange to me.  But I'm not an expert.

It's mostly they prefer coolness..and like to stay in the shade..and like most cats they sleep 12 or more hours a day. That's bad for showing the animals because they'd be hidden in the shade or tall grass so they trick them into staying out in the open with cool rocks and hidden AC vents.

Your cat wants steak.

Bloodsicle. That's a great name for a song.

At least this article features a bona-fide zoological park, and not a SCAM-tuary like Big Cat Rescue.

/am starting to get almost as tired of the BCR shills on this board as most folks have gotten of the PeTA shills.

I do a good "screamo" type voice, so I was imagining in my head:
I scream, you scream, we all scream for [screamo voice] BLOODSICLES

/probably funnier in my head.

I've been doing a lot of work at our teaching zoo lately (getting a webcam system set up after asking for 10+ years) so I'm getting a kick out of the replies.  Most of our animals are either kept indoors, or from similar summer climates.  We do have heaters that run in the winter though...
