If you come before you've ever even reached third base, you need to think about something else to slow down. Maybe baseball statistics or something

I know that technically it's a "triple" when you hit a little flare in front of the RF, he dives to try to snag the out, misses, and the ball rolls past him while the damn 2B runs it down.  I know you can't get an "error" when the ball was not catchable with ordinary effort and never contacted the RF.  but if Gomez wanted, he could have just let the ball drop in front of him, pick it up, and Fielder would have a "single".

But baseball needs a better word for what that was.  Sort of like how if you hit a single with a man on first, the defense throws to third, and you sneak into second while that's going on.  They record that as "single, advancing to second on throw", not a "double".

You don't understand. Part of the pitcher's job is to inspire his fielders to not be complete morons in the field. That triple falls fully on the shoulders of....whoever was pitching, because I'm too lazy to look it up for the sake of a stupid joke.

No joke, I have to think about Skip Caray and Pete van Wieren's call of the Braves/Pirates Game 7 of the NLCS call of Sid Bream's slide.

/If I make it to "They may have to hospitalize Sid Bream!", I usually can make a decent showing.
//Don't usually make it that far.

Subby here. Sorry about the crap link. I should've done the "does it work in a new window?" test. I'm a bit annoyed with the way some sites offer a page of links & when you click on one, it opens a pop-over link instead of a new tab.

Anyway, I grabbed that link from the MLB Morning Lineup email. If you're a baseball fan, you should be signed up for that, off you're not already. Good stuff.

I'm not upset because the two 404 pages I got we're someone beating up the Phillie Phanatic and the home run that bounced off Jose Canseco's head

Damn you for pointing that out. Going to be spending the new 10 minutes hitting reload, trying to see how many different ones they might have...

I'm pretty sure that was Lasorda hitting the Phanatic.

I just saw a Yankees pitcher get beaned in the head by a ball while walking back to the mound with his head down, and a Seattle player trying to find a pop-up that landed 20 feet away from him.

"single, advancing to third on overconfident fielder"

He's certainly not fast, but has enough hustle to make up for it. There are a couple of teammates he would beat in a foot race.

From what I have seen, he's a pretty smart baserunner.  If you slack off cause you think chubby won't hustle, he'll take that extra base.

Maybe we have different understandings of what 3rd base is but frankly, that's a pretty damn good way to go.

/oral.  3rd base is oral.
