Interesting.

2013-07-18 11:04:42 AM
I thought this was about a whole different James Bulger. Probably only pertinent to British people. So there's a new James Bulger trial now?

2013-07-18 12:02:01 PM
Heh. Never cross Whitey.

2013-07-18 12:02:35 PM
You know what they say, never start a mob war with a Irish mobster.

Gee, was he a Scientist or Microbiologist?

Both the prosecution and defense had the same comment: "Rats!"

2013-07-18 12:03:55 PM
Was he a burned former spy?

2013-07-18 12:05:18 PM
I love how during this entire trial his defense has been defending from almost nothing except the entire snitch and woman he killed. Obviously trying to set up his prison life to be easier rather than harder since they don't look to fondly on snitches and women killers in prison.

2013-07-18 12:05:39 PM
But earlier this week prosecutors informed Rakes he would not be called to testify, a decision that left Rakes "despondent," a source close to his family told ABC News.

Key witness?

Funniest story that came out because of this trial, Bulger apparently attended Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Vancouver in 2011 and witnessed the Bruins win the Cup.

Clemkadidlefark: Gee, was he a Scientist or Microbiologist?

Thanks for the heads-up.  I'm a microbiologist.

2013-07-18 12:06:57 PM
Probably suicide.

2013-07-18 12:07:16 PM
I hear he committed suicide by shooting himself 6 times in the back of the head from a distance of about 5 feet.

2013-07-18 12:09:40 PM
Actually from another article I read, it sounds like suicide. He was told his testimony wasn't needed.

2013-07-18 12:11:14 PM
I can hardly wait for media interviews of jurors.

If they live long enough.

I'm surprised they found him all in one piece.

"Rakes comes from a storied South Boston family. His brother Joseph Rakes was photographed in Stanley Forman's Pulitzer Prize winning photograph charging at an African-American man on Boston's City Hall with the sharp end of the American flag - which became the symbol of the racial unrest during the city's anti-busing crisis."

Never heard that before. What an asshole move his brother did. Farking Southie people.

Joe Peanut: I hear he committed suicide by shooting himself 6 times in the back of the head from a distance of about 5 feet.

Accidentally, of course. And it hurt so bad, he had to take a whole bottleful of pain pills, and while he was trying to fill a glass of water in the sink, he tripped and got his neck tangled up in the window shade cord, which startled him so much he accidentally fell out a three-story window right in front a a garbage truck...yeahhh, that's it, that's the ticket...

I'm left thinking back to The Mechanic where Bronson took a pot shot at one guy to get him to run uphill in a panic and cause a heart attack.

Now that's how to whack a buddy.

2013-07-18 12:16:56 PM
Al Sharpton was right, you can't trust Whitey.

2013-07-18 12:20:38 PM
Rakes' longtime friend Steve Davis, whose sister Debbie was allegedly murdered by Bulger, had met him for breakfast daily before court. Davis said he last saw Rakes Tuesday in court but then couldn't reach him all night Tuesday and yesterday he did not meet him in the courthouse cafeteria for breakfast.

Davis - who lost his sister, brother and father to homicide, and whose daughter was killed in a drunk driver accident - was devastated by the news.

"It doesn't make sense,'' Davis said
.

Dude, I would've thought that to you, of all people, it would make sense that this guy might get whacked.  What part of "ratted out a powerful mobster" do you not understand?

Told you so.

Doesn't make me Nostradamus though, more like Noshiatsherlocksradamus.

that state is nothing but goomba wanna be mobsters and crooked cops.
Oh, and filthy politicians and dirty judges.

2013-07-18 12:31:58 PM
Hard to say if it was the gangsters the cops or the FBI who did him in....

2013-07-18 12:33:23 PM
I dont see why they would randomly pick one guy out of about 500 who are testifying in this case, particularly a guy who wasnt even going to testify after all.

Of course, everyone involved in this case is a scumbag for a variety of reasons, wouldn't surprise me if he got killed for unrelated activities.

I'm starting to wish that I'd been paying attention to this Trial. Seems pretty crazy.

The movie "The Departed" was loosely based on Whitey Bulger and his associates.

In Southie, that's natural causes.  Look, I love Boston.  I was born in Cambridge, lived in the vicinity for the first half decade of my life before my family moved north.  I have felt a strong, lifelong connection with the place.  And I will freely tell you, as the flag riot picture shows, it is provincial small town disguised as a big city.  As bad as Southie is, East Boston is even worse, and don't even get me started about the Revere/North Shore area.

But for all its faults, I still love the place.  Wish I could afford to live there, but a handful of decades of being a granite state invader have changed me into something that probably wouldn't fit in there so well anymore.

The AG is a woman and other than being an attention whore, is pretty honest. Our biggest problem here is that MA is completely run by the Democrats. Sometimes the Governor is technically a Republican, but the leaders of the House & Senate actually run things and they generally end their tenure getting indicted.

Exactly

Whitey : "I ain't no snitch, I told them nothing and in fact everything I did they knew about and were ok with"
Jurors : "Riiiiiiiiight"

VERY VERY loosely.....

With all the Zimmerman and that girl Nancy Graice was drooling over, it takes a mysterious death to bring advertising customers over to the Whitey courtroom soiree.

Some CNN/FOX/MSNBC producer has contingency plans to travel to Moscow if detectives get too close.

There is a reason why Boston is considered the South of the North.

Seems to me that if a witness turns up dead under mysterious circumstances, the defendant should be automatically found guilty.
