Job Creator: They aren't in Korea, they are here.  They need to adapt to our customs, not the other way around.

Are you implying that Asians are slow on the up-take?

Most of the commenters lean reasonably far to the left, and yet they're trashing David Dinkins because he was a genuinely lousy mayor.

A little something to keep in mind for our conservative friends who project so hard you could point them at a wall and watch "Atlas Shrugged" (cause SOMEbody has to...) whenever they biatch about how "lock-step" we are...

Because I have yet to see anybody criticize Dinkins because he wasn't liberal enough.

I'm conservative, and so in that sense this thread is reassuring.  But it's much more reassuring to me as an American that we haven't all lost our damn heads in partisanship.  People who can't disagree with their own political party are mentally unhealthy.

While no doubt there are plenty of racists in the area (as everywhere), it seems logically unlikely that most people didn't used to be racist and voted him in, but suddenly a lot of them became racist since then and that is why he got kicked out. Whether he did a good or bad job and whether the change in votes is justified I have no idea, but racism seems unlikely to be a big part of it.

Racism probably got him elected in the first place, like Obama.

Looks like bad work got him out, like...

ScreamingHangover: jedihirsch: Lets see NYC under Dinkins.
Higher crime
more murders
race riots
race riots with the police ordered not to interfere even as someone was killed and someone was was beaten with his skull bashed open feet away from cops who by their orders from the mayor couldn't do anything and the police only finally got involved after Dinkins decided to see what was actually going on and his limmo was attacked by the rioters.
made racial comments about Jews and Latinos
financial mismanagement and huge debt.

Yup the only reason you lost reelection to a guy who built a reputation as being hard on crime when crime was skyrocketing and there were riots was because you were black. Which is why you even lost the black vote during your reelection, because they were racist against you being black too, right

You forgot that while the riots were going on, he didn't feel the need to disturb his vacation, so he didn't return to work for over a week.
And preventing the police from making arrests of "street level" drug dealers.
And then there was taking OTB, which was bringing in a $40 million a year profit for the city and turning it into a $20 million a year loser in 3 years: The guys couldn't even run a legal, tax-free betting operation!

Yet he's still blaming it on racism. Dude: if it was racism, you would have never been elected in the first place.

I love Dinkins: he screwed up so bad,  he was pushed out by the first Republican to win the Mayor's office since 1945. Not only did he brake a 49 year streak, but he ushered in  Republican rule for the past 19 years. For the life of me, I can't understand why the Democrats never kicked him the fark out of their clubhouse.

I don't think the democrats believe in the concept of DINO yet, even for the ones like Dinkins or the southern democrats that vote against democratic ideology
