Edgy, offensive, distasteful, possibly obscene.

I like it.

I was thinking it needs a "Welcome to Fark" caption.

Welcome to life in America's Hat, little girl.

Oh, sure, you'll have your little victories in life--a sexual hat trick with your husband during the 7th game of the hockey finals, maybe find two cases of Molson in the 6 foot snowbank on the side of the road, or you'll get the last Maple Pecan Danish at Tim Horton's--but you'll always know just south of you is God's Land. The land of free, clean, loving people kissed by Jesus. An entire nation washed clean by God's choice. And when you breathe your final breath, your last words to those huddled around you in your freezing basement will barely cover the sounds of winter winds howling outside...

"See you all in Florida! Eh."

LoneCraneFullMoon: C18H27NO3: Why is this news and how does this become news? Did the father call the news station and say, "Have I got the story of the day for you"?
/My curiousity is genuine.

I wonder the same thing about little stories like this a lot.  I mean, how...how did they get hold of this story?  Did someone think that X was newsworthy and proceed to contact a news agency?  And then the news agency jumped at the chance to cover it?

My guess would be that the family called the local paper or station or whatever to see if there had been a tornado.  Then the reporter (or whomever) asked what had happened and ran with it.  If the family already had the photo then this is really a writes-itself story.

2013-07-17 07:41:09 PM
I left out - the story itself wasn't newsworthy, but this photo certainly is an eye-grabber.

When my son was 12 he was playing at a friends house. He heard screaming and saw a man on fire.  Suicide attempt by a mentally ill guy. My son jumped a fence, turned on the garden hose and put out the fire. The neighbor called the newspaper and they called me asking to interview my son. They decided against printing the story but I assume that's how little things like this get attention. Someone calls the news.

I was going to suggest that a couple of bored asshole teenagers might be somewhat more likely than a tornado, but I like "brother" better.

Not a lot of sharks near Regina. Maybe a Moosenado. Or a Beavernado.

Meh, used to be every  year around here, some story would come out about some kid who got his fancy new bike "stolen". Of course then sport good stores/bleeding hearts would donate new bike, equipment money etc

Cynical me wonders how many of these stories were a ploy for free things.

Secret is you only fill your cup to the cup holder flair with the red shiat, then top off with regular mountain dew.

/does similar things with sweet teas, fill 1/4 way to the flair and top off with plain
//for the simple fact of how sweet sweet tea is, I'm surprised each cup doesn't give 5 people diabetes

This makes my clever plan to build my godchildren a playhouse in the shape of a geodesic dome look like actual thought for their feelings went into it. If a tornado comes, it will either stay put or just roll about undamaged. If they outgrow it, I can use it as a greenhouse. Either way, no pictures of them looking sad after Hurricane Whatever destroys their toy.

The fact that I can get the ninth-grade geometry class at my math-teaching neighbor's school to do 80% of the building for cost-of-materials and the price of pizza for 50 is just a happy coincidence. A beautiful, look-at-me-sponsoring-education coincidence that still undercuts those pre-fab Home Depot playhouses by $900.
