"If you could go back in time, would you have allowed Adolf Hitler to host the Olympics in Germany? To have the propaganda coup of inviting the world into Nazi Germany and putting on a false front?" Graham said of the Games.

Nazi Tourettes is becoming an epidemic.

And seriously, if this is the issue with Russia with which you find the greatest fault, your priorities are seriously out of whack.

I hope McCain gave him a Gibbs-like smack to the head and yelled, "Syria, probie!"

This pissed me off when Carter did it and it pisses me off even more now because the circumstances are even less dire. Those athletes - who all have a very narrow window of excellence - owe NOTHING to anyone's political agenda.

Fark you, Sen. Graham,

Oh my god. I bet all those old farkers got a non-Viagra hardon for the first time in 10 years at the thought of being able to rattle sabers with Russia again.Yeah, that's what we're going to do: Boycott the Olympics because one dude confirmed what we all pretty much knew was going on anyway.

I don't even know, but let me guess. Lindsey Graham has deep ties to several key defense contractors?

Took me a while.  Good work, subby.

"I'm not saying that Russia is Nazi Germany," Graham added, "but I am saying that the Russian government is empowering some of the most evil, hateful people in the world."

Funny how he didn't seem to give two shiats about human rights or anything like that when China held the Olympics.

Funny story, this exact conversation happened in 1936 too. They said yes anyway. And the US had a very novel way of dealing with it: they went to Germany, participated, and then beat Hitler's master race with a black guy.

I figure same deal in Sochi or anyone else's Olympics. We go, we say hi to the world, we line up alongside the adversary, and then we beat them and take all their medals.

Had dinner with someone who competed in the Munich Olympics 1972. Like other athletes he didn't get to finish after the Black September massacre of the Israeli team.

The better luck next time doesn't happen so much in the Olympics.

So Lindsey, why not protest by dropping out of the Senate.

Gosling: .. and then we beat them and take all their medals.

Yeah, but these are the Winter Olympics.  US Domination not so ensured.

A Republican who knows nothing about history?! Well now I've seen everything.

I think it's perfectly sensible to punish everyone but the people involved in all of this.

2013-07-17 01:55:31 PM
Sure, let's punish the athletes who have worked their asses off for four years for the slight chance that their they might get their one moment of glory in the awesome sports that never get attention at any other time. Let's punish them all because one guy decided that what our Government was doing is wrong.

A greenlit that has a joke that requires someone to read the article?  That aint right, especially for the politics tab.  This place is turning into Nazi Germany.

2013-07-17 02:20:40 PM
how about our athletes all go over there to compete for other countries? Bahrain and Bhutan, say.

Graham said that an Olympic boycott is just one possible measure that the U.S. should consider if Russia decides to grant Snowden's temporary asylum petition.

"I don't know if putting the Olympics on the table is the right answer but I do know this: What we're doing is not working, and sitting on the sidelines and watching the Russians empower some of the most brutal people in the 21st century, and doing nothing about it is wrong," Graham said Tuesday.

So, what is the reason he thinks we should consider a boycott?  The Snowden thing or their support of Iran and Syria? Make up your farking mind you simpleton.

wow, he speaks with such authority & resolve & lack of reason.

Will China join US this time?

Hehe...even Boehner politely told him to STFU.

Fark you, Sen. Graham,

Pretty much this - so many hours of practice go into olympic success that to just piss it all down the drain is ridiculous. Hopefully our olympic athletes will defect en masse should it come to this.

Hyperbole, Edward Snowden and Lyndsay Graham are thine friends.

Snowden thinks he is the most persecuted American in the history of the Nation.  Every enemy of the state that got a drone attack to the dick, mid-sleep, probably begs to differ.

Graham thinks Snowden is a traitor, but as far as we can tell he hasn't provided aid and/or comfort to an enemy and does not seem to have endangered American lives.  He's just trying to sound like a bad-ass.

The 72 Olympics were only suspended for several hours over the Munich attack. The games went on, even as the hostage events unfolded, which drew major criticism at the time. Either your friend was on the couple Olympic teams who left the games after the massacre or you were lied to.

They hate you for your freedoms.

And who better to take those freedoms away than Republicans? Not that the Democrats have ever stood up and refused to rubber-stamp any powers seized by the White House or any rights trampled by Congress, the CIA, the NSA, the FBI, the Pentagon, yada, yada, yada.

You haven't really got any rights or freedoms left. What with drones, assassinations of US citizens, assassinations of everybody else, the NSA spying on every word typed, spoken, faxed, text-messaged or emailed; the FBI and the CIA running half of the world's illegal drug trade (maybe more than half--don't know who runs the illegal drug trade in China, but in Italy, the Mafia and the CIA have been in kahoots since WWII).

The funny thing about conspiracy theories is why anybody needs them when the known historical facts are so much worse. I guess conspiracy thinking is a form of escapism, like reality shows with no reality in them.

I believe strongly that liberal democracy (or social democracy, in the more advanced countries of Europe) is the way to go. No other form of government is anything but a kleptocracy waiting to become a demented paranoid tyranny. But every corporation and political party is like the larvae of the Ichneumon Wasp, devouring society alive, from inside.

The "Hitler hosting the Olympics" deal only seems dumb now because we know how the story ends. Like how when you're watching "The Dark Knight" for the first time, you're wondering "Shiat, what are they gonna do?", but the second or third time, you're going "Why don't they just blame the Joker instead of Dent?"
