Pretty sure it was an ancient Greek fertility symbol before Hitler and his friends bastardized it for their use.

The Raelians want to rehabilitate something from the Nazis? That's like going out of the frying pan into the warming oven.

As far as I can tell the Raelian movement is loaded full of young, hot Asian women who are into group love.  A guy could ignore a lot of inane silliness to be among such people.

The Swastika is about HERITAGE!! After the war of Northern American Aggression, it became a symbol of evil.

2013-07-17 02:58:09 PM
Stupid tag? Really?

Alright, I guess we're all in agreement. Hitler commanded that we all perceive the swastika as an ugly symbol and we are all to salute and say "YES SIR!" Gotcha.

It would be nice for the symbol to be reclaimed to its original meaning. And its use as a Nazi symbol only a footnote in its history.

Good luck.

First time a swastika was explained to me as something different than what the Nazis used it for I was a little girl in a Vietnamese run Dollar Store in Phoenix, AZ. They had a Buddhist shrine at the front door decorated with a bunch of swastikas, so I asked the lady behind the counter what the deal was.
I figured forever after that if I ever saw it in any sort of setting that didn't have to do with Nazis that it was just a symbol of good luck.

This is not common knowledge?

Yes... it is true. It was an ancient Hindu symbol and used in many other places as a generally positive thing. You gotta remember though that those ancient Hindus also believed that the lighter colored folks were superior (caste system). Also the Nazis reversed the symbol (although their interpretation does appear throughout history as a positive as well). You can see swastikas in many temples and even churches around the world because of this.

Also Raelians are batsh*t nutf*ck insano. They had alien doomsday prophecy sh*t that obviously didn't pan out (like waiting for the mothership and it did not arrive). Their leader was into banging lots of young hotties so there is a massive predatory sexual element to the movement... but there are certainly no lack of hotties despite the creepiness of the whole thing.

I kind of agree with their sentiment here that perhaps the symbol should be reclaimed or at least its true history taught but to me it seems more like busy work to keep their followers occupied so they don't lose interest.

Sorry... I realized this may be incorrect. I'm not sure which inversion the Hindus used. Don't history flame me bro!

I agree.  But it's too soon. They should try again in 2046. ... and again in 2146.

2013-07-17 03:13:29 PM
Also there were some alarmist stories a few years back about young Indians wearing Nazi style Swastis on T-Shirts and stuff with the explanation being that they respected the ideologies but it strikes me more that they were probably just using it as a way to tap into their past while pissing off the older folk.

Is there such a dearth of symbols in the world that they can't let just one of them fade off into oblivion?  I have an emoticon app on my phone that has something like 3500 symbols on it.  There's literally NOT ONE OTHER symbol they could bear to use?

I went to a friend's house on July 4 that had a swastika on the doorstep.  I think they're Hindu.

It's actually been used in Hindu, Buddism and a few other religions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika, but yeah, you are correct about the Nazi's.

Many symbols have been taken from the original context and used to push other agendas. inverted Pentagram, inverted cross to name a few.

It didn't in the first place. It's just the Nazis that farked it up.

And Charlie just did it to be an asshole. He originally had an X up there, said he was 'X'ing himself from our world, and it made enough of a stir that he decided a swastika would be a good progression.

There are plenty of murderers with cross tattoos, also.

Native Americans used the swastika a lot, too, and it was super popular in the U.S. and Canada prior to Hitler screwing it up.

The Germans didn't call it the swastika, which is from Sanskrit; they called it the hakenkreuz. Such a melodious language, German. While the Germans didn't reverse the image; they set it on an 45-degree angle, which you rarely see in true swastika motifs.

No. Why should they have to change because some assholes hijacked it for roughly 1% of its total existence?

Thank you for that knowledge. And yes I have seen that pic and heard of those ladies.

The Nazis pretty much f*cked up all sorts of sh*t for the world... like those little mustaches and running an efficient society.

That's what I meant.  It was perfectly fine and then the Nazi's dicked it up and Chucky inked it on his head.  Therefore, it will never mean the same again no matter how much someone proclaims it's ancient.
