But they "raised important question"! A total republican win.

The GOP overplaying their hand and losing big time?  Must be a day that ends in Y.

...and for their next trick:  Squandering a sure-fire Senate hold in Wyoming.

That's old hat - they've already lost "safe" seats in DE, AK (Murkowski's not technically a Republican, right?), IN, MO...

// I guess doing it in WY specifically is new

2013-07-17 10:12:22 AM
losing a seat as safe as WY would be a whole new level of derp for them.  WY is about the safest state they have, outside of Utah and Oklahoma.

I don't think even they can pull that off.  Last election the GOP got 75% of the vote.  Even if Enzi and Cheney split the conservative vote perfectly they'd still beat whoever ran as a Democrat.

I'm not sure how they lost here. They have crippled the agency for years. The damage is done.

Well best case scenario is Liz beat Enzi in the Primary, and then has a Akin-like meltdown on the campaign trail, or maybe a finacial scandal involveing Halliburton explodes in her  face, or She and mary are revealed to have more in common than she's previously admitted....but yeah, other than that...

DamnYankees: I'm not sure how they lost here. They have crippled the agency for years. The damage is done.

The Agency hasn't been "Crippled" at al, internally..and I work with them on a frequent basis, they've more or less ignored the whole thing and gone full speed ahead.   They've already drawn some serious blood from the banks (bumping the RObo-signing settlement from $5 billion to $25 billion thanks to an economic analysis Warren ordered; making Capitol one and HSBC fork over $500 mil each for selling credit card insurance to old folks...etc) and Finally got the mortgage rules written (though the don;t take effect yet) and the new Mortgage discloure  requirements alone will make comparison shopping for home loans insanely easier.

A lot of breath is now being held as to what they take aim at next (pre-paid debit card fees and Abritration clauses look to be in their sights)

Her biggest problem is that Clinton is pretty likely in 2016 and Warren is as old as Clinton. She really can only run in 2016 realistically, after which time she will be too old to run.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Clinton/Warren ticket to be perfectly frank.

"Republicans defended their strategy, insisting their effort was not futile because they were able to raise important questions about whether the CFPB, a pillar of the 2010 Dodd-Frank law, has too much power."

Did the Republicans in the Senate rape and murder a young girl back in 1990? I'm just raising important questions.

it could not exercise any new authority, including the ability to supervise nonbanks like payday lenders or debt-collection firms, until a director is in place

So the GOP is all about protecting loan sharks and scumbags.

Most voters don't know that Warren is much more liberal than Hillary and Obama combined. Elizabeth Warren is a 100% maximum liberal. Because the Republicans balked at Warren for head of CFPB, she decided to run for Senate instead.

If the Republicans continue to balk at Cordray's nomination, it would make things a lot worse for the Republicans. If Cordray knew he would not get appointed, Cordray could have resigned from the CFPB and ran for governor in Ohio against Kasich in 2014.

The hilarious thing is that even in the off-chance the GOP win the White House in 2016, Cordray's 5 year appointment expire until almost the end of President  Rubio/Christie/Cleetus' first term thanks to the feet dragging.
