Overall, 46 percent of those surveyed approved of McDonnell's job to 37 percent that disapproved, a record low number for the governor in Quinnipiac's polling and a drop from the 49 percent to 28 percent approval he had in May.

Who are these 46% who are actually approving of McDonnell at this point?

Recent polls also show that not many people really know much about it or have heard about it at all. Typical summer vacation news hiatus by the average American. Expect that to drop as more people hear about it over the next month to 6 weeks.

Out of curiosity - what do VA farkers think of the guy? TBH I was pretty worried when he got elected but he seems vaguely competent, sane or smart enough to appear sane in case he ever decides to run for higher office and only moderately corrupt - so not all that bad for a high level politician. Not keen on his reforms to transportation funding but can see positive motivation for it.

Cuccinelli, on the other hand, is full on Tea Party crazy... I'm glad this is all dragging him down too.

Ah, Governor Vaginal Probe, don't know why the ladies don't like him!

Seriously, that 20+week ban on abortions is cruel. Why? Because amniocentesis tests are done between 15-20 weeks. If you don't have an amino you find out at 18-22 weeks with the ultrasound if there are defects.

Bottom line, there are going to be a lot more women giving birth to stillborns or babies that will die anyway soon after birth.

It should be illegal for any politician to even speak about mandating anything involving reproduction unless they are an ob gyn.

Well, you've pretty much nailed it for this particular VA farker.  Candidates for governor tend to sound crazier than they turn out to be, for obvious reasons.  Especially Republicans, but it's not exclusive to that party.  Plus it helps him that most of the stupid at this point isn't coming from him, but from Cuccinelli.

I met him once when he and his entourage stopped by the food bank where I volunteer so he could do a photo op. The impression I took away was that he didn't seem genuine at all. Very robotic in nature. I felt like he wouldn't be able to have an off the cuff conversation with anyone that didn't involve pre-approved talking points.

So, you know, a politician.

/Also, I'm a woman. So you can guess how I truly feel about him.

FTFA: "but only 27 percent said they believe the governor was involved in wrongdoing and it was serious"

Then they haven't been paying attention. This guy (I'm sorry, his wife and daughters) received hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and donations from one guy, who then had the Governor's wife shilling for the company, got meetings with high level government officials, and got to use the Governor's mansion to throw a product launch party. I'm surprised McDonnell hasn't been indicted yet.

You have a Republican electorate that views such things as trivial in light of the war to keep the libtards/feminazis/colored from destroying America.

VA went (D) in 2008 and 2012, both current Senators are Democrats and several recent governors have been Democrats. The state legislature is evenly split 50:50 (with Cuccinelli holding the tie-breaker). The only reason the majority of the House seats go (R) is a heavily gerrymandered districting system.

The problem is that he came in generally as a squeaky-clean anti-corruption straight-and-narrow kind of candidate.  He was on the VERY short list for the VP nominee with Romney!

Now he's giving away stuff from the Governor's mansion as gifts, letting the state foot the bill for food his kids take to college, vitamins for his dog, his "health shakes" and "sleep elixirs" and received $6000 Rolex watches from CEO's of drug companies as "gifts" by funneling them through his wife who also goes on shopping trips to NYC with and comes home with a few grand worth of new high-end clothes.

If a Democrat was doing this they would go through the roof.  It would be unprecedented.  It would be damned-near in the ranks of Chicago-style politics.

Speaking of "get over it", the New England fixation with saying things like this is (in my experience) more pronounced and prevalent than the Southern fixation with celebrating the Confederacy.

That would match up with my guess.  I moved to Virginia during his administration, so I have no idea what the campaign was like.  Except that in his further endeavors I've heard it said that he promised to abolish parole and that he had a Confederate flag in his TV ads.

My general point was just that almost every governor or president I've seen has been more moderate in office than on the trail.

My Obama voting brother-in-law is a Virginia Democrat and is the libbiest lib I personally know.  He likes and supports McDonnell.  When I asked him how/why, he simply replied that the man has done a decent job steering the state through troubled times.  He's a BSRB So Vote for The Non-Haters and finds the man tolerable.

The Human Vajayjay could start his first day by forcing all pre-Ks into Comfort Toddler Camps for his campaign donors, and re-establish chattel slavery and he would still be more moderate than the trail.  "they all are less insane than they campaign as" is not a reason to let a lunatic into office
