Seriously. We've got obvious issues with race over here, but I didn't realize how much the Koreans and Japanese hated each other until I went to an international electronics show in January. It's just as bad, if not worse in some ways.

Really?  No one has ever posted a screencap of the Gilligan's island radioactive vegetables episode?  Whatever will I hotlink?

It looks like serious problems with cell cycle control and maybe cell-cell recognition during development.  The cucumber looks like it de- and re- differentiated.

I agree, it would be interesting to hear about the genes that have been affected.

The Japanese eat some really weird shiat anyway, so what's the big deal with these?

2013-07-17 07:37:19 AM
So...we have real proof that these veggies are all from the area effected by the Fukushima disaster and aren't just a random assortment of weird veggie pics some news station trolled up from teh intarwebs to increase traffic?

This is a picture of a pre-Fukushima Japanese hornet.

Increased genetic diversity due to higher background radiation will only make them stronger. I welcome our giant hornet overlords.

Maybe I'm a shiatty gardener, but those stuck together tomatoes were a big "meh" for me.  I've seen it before.

There's a varietal called Reisetomate that approximates this.  Keep in mind, I'm not saying that those particular mutations aren't caused by radiation, but I'll take a Korean paper's muckraking of Japan with a grain of salf.

Specifically, the bicolor orange one struck me because I believe that is a rather common phenomenon explained by sunlight exposure.  It appears someone forced it into such a perfect symmetry, but it's not something that requires a nuclear disaster to happen.

That is what babies look like when they are born on the marshall islands nowadays.
Thanks, DOJ.

J. Frank Parnell: Rosyna: Not sure how these would be caused by radiation.

It really doesn't explain anything. Sounds like fear-mongering. There wasn't much radiation leaked outside of the reactor. And the radiation that did leak outside is far less than the amount of ionizing radiation leaked from the normal operation of a coal-burning power plant.

Ever been to Utah? Ra-di-a-tion. Yes, indeed. You hear the most outrageous lies about it. Half-baked goggle-box do-gooders telling everybody it's bad for you. Pernicious nonsense. Everybody could stand a hundred chest X-rays a year. They ought to have them, too.

isn't that called somaclonal variation? maybe kinetek can weigh in.

We really need a Fukiesque disaster to happen in America.  It is the only way that nuclear power will end here is if thousands of Americans die and the land is no longer habitable.  People dying from the diseases from fracking gas just takes too long.

Let it glow...Let it glow...Let it glow

Where is all the deformed vegetation from Chernobyl or the atomic bombs?

Vegetation has reclaimed chernobyl but I haven't seen mutations.

I wonder if he wears a hat...

Abe claims Fukushima food keeps him healthy

The prime minister, perhaps hoping to appeal to local voters, claimed to eat Fukushima-produced rice every day, saying that the food was what kept him energetic. He continued, saying, "Whenever I go to a summit meeting, I tell the other leaders. I eat Fukushima-produced rice."

Energetic? Wow, I hope that was a mistranslation.
