I wonder if he had been sober for awhile just prior.

One of the things I wish they'd talk about in rehab/NA/AA/etc., is that if you go back out, you have to remember you don't have the tolerances you built up over time. You can't be a daily heroin user, go sober for three months, and then start shooting the same amount you used to. There are a LOT of stories of people who die the very first time using after a stretch of sobriety. Relapse is a part of recovery, but it doesn't have to be, and it sure as hell shouldn't kill you.

/went to NA for awhile, left because it turned out she wasn't actually an addict

If nothing else, the fruit of the poppy led to this young man's death..... Plus a lot of really good industrial music.

Dude, have you even listened to Skinny Puppy?! It's like, wow dude, drugs are bad bad but listen to that throbbing beat. It down right cantankerous and screechy and such.

Also, let me add, drugs are awesome. Have you heard any old Lou Reed? I once wanted to be a singer, a singer like Lou Reed I said, then a chick stuck her tongue in my ear and I totally freaked out cause that whore may have had a disease that may have rotted my junk and all.

So, as I see it, Heroin may sometimes feel like it's your wife or your life, but when it comes down to it, it just makes you feel like a man.

Heroin.

It's sad when someone with a promising career ahead of them has their life cut snort.  SHORT.  Cut short!

I'm surprised it was heroin.  Maybe it's just the impression I've developed from TV/movie depictions, but I thought heroin addicts tended to look wasted away and feeble.  Monteith still looked lively and fit, my bet was on coke or pills.

Of all the drugs that can mess you up, heroin is by far the one I wouldn't wish on anyone. Mentally and emotionally that drug puts many in a place they can't come back from.

I DRTFA and I don't know must about Glee or heroin. I did read that he had been to rehab and his family worried about when he would see his old friends in Vancouver. I read Lea found out about his death when she was on vacation with friends. That's just awful awful stuff. The picture of his car in her driveway - man. I've dealt with friends with addiction problems and see what it does to everyone around them. It's truly heartbreaking. I hope the poor girl can somehow move on from this.

He chose not to choose life: he chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

I saw this coming the moment they announced his death. Sure, there was a chance he had a rare medical problem that could have struck him down, but I had a very strong suspicion that it was drug-related and my suspicions turned out to be correct. And as douchebaggy as this is going to appear, it's how I feel: while it's unfortunate that yet another celebrity made the choice to self-destruct through the use of drugs, I'm not going to shed any tears for him. Addiction may be considered a disease by some, but with the exception of babies born to addicts, it's a disease users inflict upon themselves willfully. No one put a gun to Cory's head and told him to shoot up. And don't give me any bullshiat about how the Hollywood life got to him or that he had personal demons.  For every single performer who died from a drug-related incident, there are 20 more who will never end up in that horrific situation because they have the self-control and self-discipline needed to avoid it.  And, as far as "personal demons" go, well guess what:  we all have personal demons.  Famous or no, we all have darkness in our lives we'd rather not deal with, but thankfully the vast majority of us are able to keep from medicating ourselves into oblivion.  He had a promising career and a beautiful girlfriend, and he pissed it all away for the sake of a hit, and now his loved ones have to suffer his absence.  They're the only ones I feel sorry for; they have to suffer the heartache of his bad choices and loss.

Suicide. All junkies are suicides. I've never known a junkie who wasn't looking to kill himself and just hadn't actually done it yet.

That would explain why people keep trying it. And you are right, it is suicide, a very slow miserable suicide.

Sure, the pretty boy actor goes tits up in a fancy hotel.   Meanwhile, your average VanCity Crusty shoots up a heroin and Drano speedball before 8 a.m. and quietly goes about his day harassing people going to work and scaring tourists.  That's just a little something we like to call gumption.

The answer is pills. Ask any junkie under the age of 30 how they got started. The majority will tell you that they started messing around with Oxycodone or Vicodin, then developed a habit that they couldn't support.

Eventually, they made the switch to heroin simply because it's cheaper and easier to get.

How come in the US  a complete autopsy reports usually take 6-8 weeks, but they only take a day or two in Canada?

This.  That's what supposedly killed Amy Winehouse--she'd been sober for a little while, then downed a fifth of vodka.

What amazes me is that people are surprised this guy died as he did.  31 years old and a known addict?  Please.

Nah.
