Surprise, surprise, we're not farking Utah. We DO have a good bit of civilization here. And our rural folk aren't overwhelmingly redneck a-holes.

Luckily, they can redistrict so that 40% of the vote elects 70% of the state house.

But if they don't vote for Christian sharia, they will get out derped in the primaries.

They don't care. They're banking on gerrymandering, voter suppression and a compliant Supreme Court to stay in power.  Even if it backfires on them, they can do enough damage that it will take years to repair.  It's scorched earth.

It truly is.

-Voters think the ongoing Republican focus on Sharia Law is misplaced energy- just 17% think it's a pressing issue state government should address to 46% who think it is not with 37% not having an opinion either way, quite possibly an indication that they don't even know what it is. Even among Republicans only 23% think combating Sharia Law is an important priority.

Also, 101 protestors were arrested last night.

CapeFearCadaver: Also, 101 protestors were arrested last night.

I swear, those protests are going to turn violent if the legislature keeps this up. Most of us are pretty upset that they're hijacking a place we worked hard to make not a shiathole like South Carolina or Tennessee.

The NYT editorial board has been aghast at the last few weeks of shenanigans on the part of our McCrory and the jerkholes that got elected with him, and says it best:

North Carolina was once considered a beacon of farsightedness in the South, an exception in a region of poor education, intolerance and tightfistedness. In a few short months, Republicans have begun to dismantle a reputation that took years to build.

There are an awful lot of college students in the Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill area, and most of them are sluts, and now those sluts will need to be more careful, since they will no longer be able to just "take care of the problem" after Homecoming weekend.

Reminds me of a road trip to Duke when I was in college.  Gamma Phi Beta threw a party with my frat chapter there.

Gamma Phi:  "Wanna find a room?"

Me:  "I'm gay."

Gamma Phi:  "I don't care."

Wait, let me guess - their districts are all gerrymandered so they don't need to give a shiat about approval ratings.

Obviously the anti-abortion bill was not conservative or restrictive enough. The current polling data suggests that state legislators should push for a much more right-leaning agenda.

I think we can all relax. My understanding is they stripped everything out about motorcycles except maybe the name.

Alas my district in NC is so gerrymandered, they keep voting in Virginia Foxx who continues to make the place look as retarded as she is. You could have Charles Manson rape a nun and murder her in this district, run with an R after his name, and win in a landslide. It is really depressing.

Most of the sluts I know wear dresses or skirts commando when they're looking for action. They appreciate the easier access, and so do the guys.

Bravo subby in any case.

Most of these right-wingers are probably also conservative Christians, and as such believe that the more they are told that we don't want the shiat sandwiches they're trying to feed us, the more they look at it as Satan driving society and it's their righteous duty to impose these types of laws on us.

They're even more unhappy with the process- 80% think it's inappropriate to combine abortion legislation with bills about motorcycle safety or Sharia Law.

OK, I know they took a motorcycle safety law, D&E'ed everything but the name, and implanted abortion regulation language.  I hadn't heard of the Sharia thing - did they just tack that on for good measure and cognitive dissonance?

The fact there's apparently a significant percentage of GOP'ers who are still either oblivious, or just flat refusing to acknowledge they've lost the culture war is amusing.

Like, really, I don't get upset anymore. This is bordering on "aww, how adorable *pats head*" territory now.

They first tried to tact the abortion stuff on an anti-Sharia Law bill without any sort of public notice whatsoever. Everyone got rightfully indignant, so they pulled it off of that and a couple days later tacked it onto the motorcycle safety bill.

They could always take a motorcycle trip to the nearest state that does allow such things and bask in both the irony and excellent gas mileage.

Like a republican's knees in an airport bathroom?

2013-07-16 12:28:07 PM
I have to go to NC for Thanksgiving, since I can't convince my parents to move.  The whole family's gonna be there, which doesn't happen often, so I'm sucking it up and going to North Carolina.

I'm making a Motorcycle vs. Uterus T-shirt (can U spot the difference) for the trip, but would like one more T-shirt (at least) to wear through the airport.

Suggestions?  Not too obnoxious, and nothing that will get me booted from 1st class, but....

There were two bills; one in the Senate and one in the House, that were gutted to add anti-abortion language into. NC legislature rules say that no bill can be considered past a certain date for that assembly. When they realized they were past the deadline, they took an existing bill that had already been added to their agenda, and basically substituted the anti-abortion language in place of the anti-Sharia and Motorcycle safety language.

Not only is this very questionable, the legislature also limited debate time on both bills, never allowed any expert witnesses to debunk their claims that abortions are unsafe in NC, and rushed through the multiple voting process so they could get the bills passed as soon as possible. They did drop some of the worst restrictions, but wrote language into both bills so the Department of Human Health would be responsible for determining the actual rules and regulations. Since the director of the DHH is appointed by our current conservative governor, I expect they'll come up with the same rules taken out of the bill all on their own.
