Bullshiat. The Democrats have been threatening to do this for years - do it, or shut up.

Why can't Obama just appoint who the majority of Republicans want him to appoint?

2013-07-16 07:32:37 AM
I know what you're thinking. "Has he been threatening this for six years or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as these  are Presidential appointments, the most powerful appointments in the world, and would blow the republican's power grip clean off the current congressional term, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

two things. 1. why do you assume democrats are all liberals? and 2. why are you welcoming Republicans to continue doing absolutely nothing? We have elected these people to govern, yet they refuse to govern. Why are we paying them to be there then?

the first order of business after the 2014 mid terms for a GOP majority would be to change these rules for everything. not just appointments.
I have no doubts this would happen. regardless of what Reid does now.

He is only threatening to change the rules for appointees, not all laws. Are we really afraid of losing the ability to filibuster appointees? The negatives of President X (R) appointing people that need to be filibustered outways the need for people in the seats today.

Honestly, remove the Filibuster entirely, i don't care if the Democrats don't have it when the Republicans take over.  It gums up the work of government and makes it impossible to do the country's business.  The next time a Republican President and Congress are elected the country folks will just need to accept that's the will of the electorate.

Okay, what follows is hyperbole, but bear with:

If you went into work one day, expecting to do your normal job, and instead they asked you to put some puppies to sleep and that this was your new job description...would you be obstructionist to say hell no, I'm not participating in that?

Obvs appointing people is not the same as putting puppies to sleep, but here's the thing: these are people standing up for what they believe in and risking their careers to do so. If the libs' elected officials had half of the conviction that Republicans do, then you wouldn't be so damned dissapointed in them.

What convictions? Republicans are being whiny little biatches. They don't even have the balls to actually stand up and talk forever, they just have to whisper "filibuster" and everything comes to a halt. And with the exception of Rand Paul's actual filibuster over drone strikes, no one has done more than just whisper "filibuster" to stop legislation. There's no conviction her, it's being a coward.

Does anyone really doubt that the GOP wouldn't just go nuclear if they regained the Senate either way?

If the Dems are going to go nuclear, it might as well be over the GOP's blocking appointments to the CFPB and NRLB. Get those two agencies working again for the good of the average American. Let Republicans complain about that and make them look more like the party of the rich.

Oh I don't think the GOP as a whole is evil. They have plenty of evil people I leadership positions tho. Mostly the republicans are dumb. Cartoonishly so in most cases. I honestly think I prefer them this way because if they ever got their shiat together anyone who wasn't a white heterosexual Christian male would be f*cked for the duration.

Destruction of traditional marriage?  Homosexuality is NOT a danger to my marriage.  Adultery would be, but politicians on both sides of the aisle are frequently caught at that, and even though it does destroy marriages, I don't hear any conservative outrage over it.

I've actually scared the piss out of my conservative friends by simply encouraging them to continue to believe they are right about everything and to keep right on doing what they're doing.

This isn't even the real nuclear option. It would only take a majority of senators to confirm a specific subset of executive branch officials? Democracy is truly dead! Idealistically I'd say get rid of the filibuster entirely, seeing as it defeats nearly the entire legislative purpose of having a Vice President, but I'm also terrified of what damage Republicans could do to the country with 50+1 legislative power.

1) a fetus isn't a child, and if Republicans were actually concerned about children they would support free pre- and post-natal care. 2) traditional marriage isn't affected one iota by gays being able to marry too.
