We could just, you know, end the war or something?

These surprise-dad-returning videos make my skin crawl on five different levels. Yeah, it's a DefCon 5.

1. They're all based on a style of war propaganda from the Iraq War.
2. The local TV whores know it's an easy story.
3. The business or baseball team posturing that it's for 'Merica, and not for their own free publicity.
4. The parents who arrange these things have an odd combination of attention whoredom and sh*tty parenting going on.
5. Seeing the people who supported the war and the Bush Administration get all misty-eyed at these videos. You can see these same types gathering at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknowns. It's their Mecca.

I was going to say, "even though they felt the need to make a big stunt out of an emotional situation, at least they didn't do it publicly."

Then I clicked the link.

So as I lay here right now my friend is picking up her husband at the airport. He has been gone ten months because he got reassigned to the states and she had a visa problem and couldn't leave Germany. Her kids are downstairs sleeping and have no clue who is going to wake them up. It's going to be a great day!!!!!

Either someone can't count to three properly, or there's a black-sheep kid who had to sit in the car and miss out.

These are all government propaganda pieces, right? I can't imagine many people, who after multiple tours of blowing people's heads off, would want to delay seeing their loved ones even one minute longer than necessary in order to make a heartwarming, viral homecoming video.

It's a heartwarming story and all, but I think the tag for this story should be *sick*, because of the taco pizza.

The correct answer was "who", subby. Whom is usually an indirect object or an object of a preposition. Any time you aren't sure, guess "who" because there's nothing more obnoxious than using "whom" and getting it wrong.

filter: As someone who travels much, this shiat is pure evil to pull on kids.

Especially if deployed.

Dad doesn't just randomly come home.

Sometimes, in his profession, dad randomly just doesn't come home.

Blah blah blah allergies acting up blah blah blah.

Seriously, this never gets old. Welcome home, dude.

I'll be cynical again tomorrow.

He should have just gone home instead of taking a job.

But good for him for working hard to provide for his family.

This is a very sweet and wonderful thing for the family. But, does this kind of thing have to be reported to a national audience every farking time? Soldier surprises his kids with a homecoming. We get it. Let's move on.

Seriously, this crap was news 10 years ago. The cleverness has worn off.

Delivering pizza, eh? Who says the Army doesn't teach useful career skills. I'll bet that's the most well-organized, God-fearing pizza you ever saw. I'll bet it only took 6 chefs and 4 ovens to bake it, too, thanks to that Army efficiency.

So is this the war of the goofy homecoming surprise?

I'm not convinced about taco pizza.

I like pizza.  I like tacos.  The two together?  You're taking 2 great foods and making them into a single abomination. .

"pizza burger" is another example.

How disappointing it must have been for them to realize that their dad is now a pizza delivery boy. Minimum wage plus tips ain't gonna pay for my braces, daddy.
