He would have died anyways by some homeless person pushing him in front of an oncoming train.

Wonder what type of phone it was.

This is what happens when it cost $300+ to replace your cellphone.

Ewwwwww!

Reminds me of a time I was having dinner with friends and one asked me if I could get the battery out of her cell phone.  so I start prying at the cover.  "What happened?"  "It fell in the toilet."  "And I'm gonna go boil my hands now.  Thanks."

If you ever drop your phone onto the third rail, let it go, because man, it's gone.

Alright slight threadjack, I need a new mobile phone. It would be nice if it had a closer to real keyboard than what I had since obviously this texting thing isn't going away not sure about if I want web on it but it might be nice. Any cheap solutions to look for? Doubt I can afford an I phone right now.

If your cell phone falls onto the subway tracks, just forget about it. It's gone. Let the mutants and CHUDs have it.

When your phone will cost you half a weeks pay or more to replace that is hard to do. Now this $25 dollar Samsung flip phone I have, it's gone man.

As a result of some dipstick frying himself on the line the police investigation, 1 trains between South Ferry and 34th Street-Penn Station were shut down, and 3 trains between Atlantic Ave. and 34th St. were also suspended.

Speak for yourself.  I got one in my gift basket at the fantastipotamus concert.  I didn't want it, tho, so I threw it at a dog.  Just a regular dog, not one of the tap dancing ones.  Those are adorable.

Why is everyone so sure it was a phone?  Maybe he was a secret agent and he dropped the only antidote that could have saved Molly Moans-A-Lot.

In the past few months, 2 people fell between wagons in the Montreal metro on separate incidents. One died after being dragged over 2 stations and the other screamed enough to be heard before the train moved.

Both were too busy on their cell phone to tell the difference between an open door and the gap...

Cell phones in train/metro stations are dangerous things.

Like I'm going to sit at the coffee shop and dictate, "Send text to Jane, Tammy, and Bob. Just got a call from the clinic. You should get checked out. Sorry. Send."

That's why NYC is in the process of installing wi-fi in a lot of stations.

Ok so I'm now in NYC and I admit I was incorrect in last week's thread about there being emergency switches on the platform to cut power in case of a person on the tracks. I must have been thinking about EVERY OTHER CIVILIZED rail system in the developed world.

I stand corrected.

They do exist. You just have to jump onto the tracks and run down the tunnel to a maintenance alcove yourself to get to them

They're referring to the line numbers. 1 and 3. So trains on 1 and 3 lines were delayed.

Farkin' subways, how do they work?

Is the third rail marked in any way?

2013-07-15 10:26:17 PM
The subway systems throughout the US should set them up so that the power rail can be any of the three and just randomly switch them each day while keeping up signs warning everyone not to touch the third rail.

With all the surveillance equipment in the NYC I find it strange that they can't quickly see there's a track incursion and pull the breakers

Tsar_Bomba1: Is the third rail marked in any way?

Not really. It's beside the two running rails and in NYC is covered with a wooden board. It's also always on the opposite side from the platform.
