Uh, no. There would be no way in hell I would pay.

Why? You sat in their restaurant, ate the food, and they gave you a box to take it with you so it wouldn't go to waste. Seems like they provided everything that any other restaurant would.

Because they kicked you out when you did nothing that warranted being kicked out.  It is like if you are in a cab and for no reason the cabbie pulls over before you reach your destination and orders you out you are not obligated to pay.  He hast terminated the "contract" before is is fulfilled so he forfeits his pay.  Same thing with a restaurant.

I would definitely not pay, but I'd find my server and give him/her a tip directly. Hell, he/she just got shiat canned, and that sucks.

I went to the restaurant to sit down and enjoy a meal. I did not receive that experience, as I was kicked out due to no fault of my own. I would not pay.

But as mentioned above, I would certainly tip the waitstaff.

It would seem the landlord of that building never wants to rent it out to another business if he sends police to kick everyone out during their busiest hours on a weekend.  I sure as heck wouldn't want to rent from him.

Presumably, that's why the cops were there?

Ya, a real dick move.

So you received your food, and they offer take out trays because they are closing and the staff are losing their jobs and you want to say you won't pay? such a titty baby grow up.

So I'm only in town for the day and have a three hour drive back home after I have dinner with a group of friends at this nice little restaurant and although we ordered over 30 minutes ago and haven't received our food yet all of a sudden the police show up and the manager comes to our table and says I will be given my dinner in a to go box and must pay for it with the implied threat that I'll be arrested for skipping out on the bill if I don't.  So now I have to eat my steak dinner in the car.  And I guess I don't get my free refills of coke either, even though I paid for that as well.  But that seems fair.

the_rhino: You guys saying you won't pay are awfully self-entitled. You didn't get the experience you wanted? You went there, the waitstaff took your order, delivered your food, and cleared your place- that is the restaurant "experience". Do you not pay for your items when you go shopping and the experience isn't as depicted on a commercial? Where is the line drawn? "Gee, I don't like how the country is being run, I'm not paying taxes!" "The lions at the zoo didn't perform a song and dance routine, I'm demanding a refund!" "The cable went out for a few hours today, I'm not paying the bill when it comes due!"

If I didn't order my food to go I'm not paying for food that will be cold before I get to eat. If the cops make me pay I'll put it on my card, sign it "under duress" and file for a chargeback the next day.

What kind of asshole doesn't warn their own employees about something like this and what kind of asshole decides the best time to drop this axe is during business hours.  And then:  What kind of asshole doesn't report either the management's names or the building owner?  A lot of assholes in this story.

Perkins / Marie Callender's did something similar.

Ultimately what usually happens in these cases is the contract is ruled nul & void, thus the insurance policies become nul and void.   That's why they kick everyone out.

Although, asking patrons to pay their bills is poor taste.    Then again, all of the Hops restaurants in Florida went out, so maybe this isn't such a loss.

Owners of this joint seem like real classy folks.
