Rob said: 'When I go he'll have at least two thirds of his life to go - my family love him to bits but there's no way I'd leave him with them.
'I'd be hoping to get him into a zoo or sanctuary - somewhere where there's plenty of salad to get stuck in to.'

TFA doesn't say where Rob got his totes cool exotic pet from, but I think he should have just left the damn thing in the wild.

'Walking and sunshine is essential for recharging his batteries - he just keeps going and going. But I think it makes him hungrier as he already eats a colossal amount of lettuce as it is.

You could try feeding him something with a higher nutritive content than lettuce.

We (my surrogate fambly) have a 100 lb desert tortoise that's about 7 years old (was tiny when young). It's supposed to reach 300 lbs and they have willed it to the SF zoo upon their death-

Parrots and tortoises... gotta have em willed because they may very well outlive you

It's cool that he takes it for walks and all, but that's an unhealthy turtle. All those pyramid-like rises on his shell are a sign of improper diet and poor health.

I've seen worse though. Guy just needs to re-evaluate what he's feeding his pet.

I reach down and flip it on its back.

Hmm, this interesting tidbit now puts something else into the proper context for me.

No wonder they attacked Mario, they must have been eating some serious crap food. Whatever came down the pipes I guess. Scraps of the mushroom kingdom.

Excessive pyramiding can be a sign that a tortoise has too much protein in its diet, but some species like the Sulcata just naturally have a bit of pyramiding, even when healthy. If that was a little Russian, I would think he was feeding it bacon.

I spent so much time looking at the turtle that I just now realized.

WTF is that dude wearing?

FTFA:  He eats 33 kilograms of lettuce every week, more than three times his own 12 kilogram weight.

Someone can't math..
