feckingmorons: TF is turning into a mutual aid society, like they had in the country a decade ago. We help own and don't rely on the government.

Somewhere there is a doctoral dissertation in this.

Did you read anything she wrote?  If we didn't have shiat disability and healthcare she wouldn't be in need in the first place.  A mutual aid society is nice but I'd like to think we can help a hell of a lot more people but not having a broke system in the first place that bankrupts people for trying to have a baby or getting sick.

No. And no one should ever be pressured to help in any situation. The worse thing here is anyone looking down on someone who doesn't want to help. Life sucks, get a helmet.

ami5000: I'm perfectly fine with being a cynical asshole.

What are you trying to say here? Use your words.

I'm going to hurt myself laughing you guys. I'm going to be giggling the entire time I'm in labor and I WILL BLAME ALL OF YOU.

I wish I had some extra money to help out kiwi, but it seems TF has come to the rescue, and for that I am very glad.

*hugs*

I can get the whole not wanting to just hand over cash thing but I see no issue with a TFD baby shower, which this really is in essentials. New mom doesn't have to buy diapers and clothes and burp cloths or whatever else babies need and the money saved can go towards helping to get back on her feet financially after what I'm assuming were unexpected hard times.

I wish I could afford to give, but I wish you luck.

Wow, okay then.  Although I have seen some things on TFD a hell of a lot worse than helping out somebody that has helped out others...and exactly which one of these sumsabiatches have been pressuring people to give anything?

Pressuring was probably the wrong way to word it. Its more the "if you question the situation you're immediately a cynical asshole."

ami5000: Except for that one "TFer" that had a "friend" post on TFD on his behalf when he was trying to move cross country and it ended up that he scammed a bunch of money out of people anyway.

Wait, he scammed TFark out of dollars, right? I thought when that got posted on TFD we just laughed at the poster.

There's some people here who think anyone who has a kid is a selfish disgusting person. They have evolved past the animalistic need to reproduce and are saving the world by reducing the population. Also, they always plan ahead and never have financial difficulties.

Oh! Another genius/cheap/space saving organization tip. Some chick on r/babybumps used an old, clear shoe organizer (the kind that hangs on a door) and rolled up all her clothes and stuffed them in the pockets by chronological age. It was one of those- why didn't I think of that?

Don't get me wrong, I love a good well-pissing, but this doesn't seem like the right place for it.  Having a kid can create financial stress for otherwise responsible people, and even if there was some level of culpability, it doesn't change the basics of the situation- a mother and child in need.

With such expensive hospital bills, it seems like maybe you don't have insurance... which why have a child with no insurance? If you do, you really need a better plan.

Also, looking at the registry list... this looks less like necessities and more like "omg TFD have a baby shower for me, I showed you my gash, remember?"

Having someone else post it doesn't make it more legit. I don't even get why that's a thing.

kiwimoogle84: Satan's Chocolate Starfish: One thing to keep in mind is that if you're going back to work while the child is still an infant, daycare (or at least our daycares) won't be down with cloth diapers.

Dad has gotten the greenlight to work from home. That's a blessing because we can't afford daycare.

Then make sure you put some sort of papoosey-strap-babby-to-your-chest device on your registry. From experience, they will NOT be content to lie there quietly exactly at the time you need to take the important call, or finish the important thing. Wearing Babby was how I got anything done for the first few months.

I'm not comfortable giving straight up money (like skybreaker said, I've never even given cash to a friend, though I would if they really needed it) and it sounds like you've gotten everything you had on your wishlist, so I'll just say best of luck. I hope all parties come out the other side happy and healthy.

Yeah, I fell for that one and felt pretty stupid.  But I'm pretty confident that Teriaki and kiwi aren't faking this pregnancy to build their collection of teething rings, so I'm down with this.

I have an idea.  Rent out space on the baby.  You could tattoo Quaker State or Nabsico on it for a portion of the hospital fees.  It's brilliant!

I had a clip-on vibrating thingy that you could clip to whatever babby was in, including the crib. It was lifesaving.

We think differently. That's fine. That's life. I just don't think it's necessary to snark a woman who is asking for help, especially since that can't be easy. I would hope if I ever had a child, I would do everything possible for them, including swallowing my pride if we needed help.

Hey, I DO plan on bedazzling my diaper pail. My friends are going to be SO JELLY.

I have a PPO through my work that covers 70%. So I still owe 30% of any charges up to my max out of pocket for the year. I'm GOING to be working with them on cutting it down but they won't work with me on it until I'm done accruing expenses and have a total amount owed.

Although I have been a white knight this entire thread, I'm going to have to agree with those that say your registry is full of non-essential items. Your kid isn't going to need rattles to survive.
