That's OK, they will be compensated the princely sum of zero dollars due to the fact that ancient governments own all their old valuables in perpetuity.

If gold is $1500 an ounce, and assuming each coin is ~1oz, that's somewhere around 150 - 200 coins.

Of course, if they are centuries-old, their value to collectors or museums is higher.

Due to them not keeping their mouths shut Spain will want the coins back and anything else they find.

2013-07-15 12:39:39 PM
wait till Spain gets a load of this.  They already took the treasure from that 400 million haul last year.

All I ever have found with my metal detector is bottle caps, a penny, and some kind of religious witness coin.

Came in here to say that it's worthless since I'm sure Spain has already put in claims on the 'lost' gold.

/which will just go to enrich their upper class while the rest of the country remains mired in depression recession

Well, he might, but I bet he bought it through a reputable commodities trader and not the sleazy ripoff artists who advertised on his show.

Except that TFA explicitly says they found 48 coins.

if they were on a ship they would have a case if they were not on an identifiable wreck they cant post a claim as may countries used Spanish coins. Finds along the treasure coast while deposited by wrecks cant be traced to a specific ship. They actually talked about this, the laws governing sunken treasure) on the history channel this weekend.

Gold bugs never lose faith.  It's why they're gold bugs.

Price goes down:  "It's being repressed!  It's a conspiracy to prop up the dollar!  It'll shoot higher, soon!"

Price goes up:  "See!  I told you!"

The time to buy gold is always now.  Gold bugs are always winning by their metric.  Of course, their metric doesn't depend on the actual quantity of goods a gold coin can buy, but that doesn't matter, since they're buying gold for its own sake.  And to bribe guards to get out of the FEMA camps.

Except, of course, for the advertisers, who are advising you to buy gold precisely as they are trying to sell it. Hmm.

True Dat.

I suspect the Government of Spain to file their claim very shortly.  They have SCOTUS precedent on their side.

Because Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990 for 48 Spanish coins.

What is good in life, tennyson?

To sell your commodities, see prices fall before you, and to hear the apoplexy of the goldbugs.
