The Nuclear Option is the only option. They aren't doing a motherf*cking thing!

"But what if when we're in the minority..."

NO! Act on today, the now. You have got to f*cking legislate. This long-range strategic planning bullsh*t  by a pack of mental midgets is paralyzing us. Do something NOW. Earn your goddamn paycheck.

At this point, I think you have to assume that if the GOP gets control of the Senate, they'll fark the Democrats over anyway.  There's just no reason to take Republicans at their word.

So, Republicans are threatening that they will change their strategy of railroading any action in Congress to railroading any action in Congress?

I have no idea who you think your audience is. Finding a Democrat with a backbone is like winning the lottery. Sure it happens, but don't make it your retirement strategy.

OK, I'm not even drunk. I meant, "So Republicans are threatening that they will change their strategy of obstructing any action in Congress to obstructing any action in Congress?" Don't ask me why I totally changed the definition of railroading in my mind for that few seconds of typing. Maybe I should be a Republican Senator.

Funny thing is, Repubs would actually respect a little backbone. They see us libs as weak and not standing for anything. They don't grasp that we libs actually see the gray in the world, or even that there IS gray in the world, instead of black and white. And they think that's weak.

I don't give a good f*ck about an audience. That's just how I feel as a person. I've learned through trial and tribulation that not a goddamn thing will happen. Politicians will protect themselves. They are the lowest form of scum.

If what we have is true representative democracy, we should all shoot ourselves. The "experiment" failed.

More like they are changing their strategy from underhandedly obstructing any action in Congress while pretending to be be rebuffed bi-partisans to openly obstructing any action in Congress while pretending that Obama's "unreasonableness" is practically forcing them to take such drastic action.

Same old polished turd but now in a shiny new box.

I'm pretty sure they came together to reauthorize the USA Patriot Act and the Defense Bill.

So they have their priorities all FUBAR, as usual.

Both sides will have to live with it equally.  Just fkn do it.

I assume none of Obama's judicial nominees are being blocked, then.

Heh, somebody got told.  That was brilliant.

Also, it's not about finding a Democrat with a backbone.  It's about Harry Reid having a backbone, which he clearly doesn't, given past history.

It would be wonderful if there were an FDR in Washington right now. But there's not, so you might not want to get your hopes up.

It's not even the nuclear option because it still allows the GOP to filibuster legislation.  It's more of a MOAB option.

You're from Nevada, Harry. Roll the dice.

63% chance to retain the Senate majority in 2014, and better odds in 2016 when the Tea Party class is up for re-election.

People have the tendency how close FDR was to creating a much more socialist society in america. He tried to expand the number of Supreme Court Justice to get rid of the Conservative majority that was striking down his programs.

They need to go back to Mr. Smith Goes to Washington type fillibusters, not this crap of "I fillibuster this, now lets go golfing"

This hissy fit is over appointments? The campaign cronies who collect a government paycheck until the next President comes in and replaces them with his own campaign cronies. Not laws, not judges, the Republicans are whining about having their right to veto stupid government job appointments taken away. And having this petty privilege taken away is referred to as "the nuclear option".

When a male lion takes over a pride and kills off the old male's cubs the females don't whine and complain; they're too busy looking for food to keep the pride alive. Only in Congress will you find lions who choose starvation and personal ego over survival and pride.

2013-07-15 12:42:28 AM
Go for it. It's past time now to say "Fark you, Republicans, this is what we're doing.". People only care about bipartisanship in theory.

I'm not sure why the Republicans are even threatening anything. They may as well just laugh at Reid; he's not going to use it. How many times has he threatened it to absolutely no avail? Either do it or shut up. This constant "threat" clearly isn't working.

By blocking nominees to certain federal organizations they don't like (i.e. Richard Cordray as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, created to oversee big banks after the 2008 collapse) they can effectively block implementation of passed laws and regulations.

Get your facts straight. He didn't "try" to pack the court, he  threatened to do so. Big difference.

Also, your 1950s-style fear of "socialism" is cute. I suggest you stop using our socialist transportation network, law enforcement, fire protection, public health services and sewage treatment, then let us know how that worked out for you.

Or you could move to that Libertardian paradise of Somalia: no taxes of any kind! No government telling you what to do or getting into your business! Why, it would be just like living in a real-life "Atlas Shrugged"! Wheee! Mommiiieee!

For the life of me, I don't understand why the Democrats haven't been in the media and talk shows with a set of charts and factual talking points showing how the Republicans are the biggest bunch of obstructionist tools on nominees in the history of the US.

2013-07-15 12:53:25 AM
The GOP is pretty much saying "if you don't let us rob the bank, we're going to kill hostages until you do."  And of course right wingers love it, cause nothing matters but "stickin' it to the libs."

It's largely about union busting, gutting the NLRB and weakening labor protections. Link

(I hope)

I believe Mr Reid, as a former Nevada Gaming Commission Chairman, understands that control of the Senate may pass on to the other party in the next election. In other words " Don't do stuff that may come back and bite you later."

2013-07-15 01:06:48 AM
I'm ambivalent on this. On the hand, we need to do something different. On the other, if we remove the filibuster, we remove a major protection for minority rights. I'm not really sure I want to be emulating Egypt at this point. The U.S. is resembling the Taliban enough to add the Muslim Brotherhood to the list of "people the Republicans look up to and admire."

/new list!

Actually, I'm an FDR style democratic party member (minus the racism) I'm a big believer in the single payer Health Care and all the damn social programs and bank regulations and high taxation we can handle.
