(Digital Spy)   Now that the dust has settled and the Sharknado warning has been canceled, SyFy learns that 1.4 million people tuned in to watch Sharknado. While that would be low for a normal network, for SyFy it's practically American Idol numbers   (digitalspy.com) divider line 50

I think they should bring in a great female demographic. Maybe do something like Giant Boxer vs. Tabbysaurus

I just realized I'd watch the hell out of that movie. Hell they could even us a tagline about it being a rivalry as old as time

I would've kind of expected American Idol and Sharknado to draw in the same number of viewers.

There is only so often people are going to watch stupid, before they realize it's boring and stupid.

Almost as good as Megapython Vs Gatoroid, which is still the undisputed winner.

I would watch it too. But you know they would mess it up by putting some 80's female teen idol in it.

I find it odd how content SyFy seems to be with putting out C grade movies, I mean, I get the campiness, but there's a fine line between camp and crap, and I think they wallow in the crap most times. Even the shows suck. Though I'll still watch FaceOff and I hate reality shows and contest shows. Anyways, I'm only repeating what everyone says about their quality, what I do want to know is why they don't just buy the rights for the canned Hammer film "Zeppelins and pterodactyls" and advertise it as a Hammer film.

SyFy shows something almost vaguely SciFi and actually gets an audience?  Whodathunkit?

I'd be happy if Syfy put out a few less movies each year and instead focused on mini-series adaptations of sci-fi/fantasy books. Let's get back to stuff like Dune/Children of Dune. Even Riverworld (both versions) were at least worth watching.

Trade Secret: I like Warehouse 13 and Defiance...

Too bad, the warehouse is getting closed down after a half season next year because fark the halfway good shows they have on. They've long since gone full retard and it seems they are intent on getting every last halfway decent show they make cancelled. Can't Showcase(the channel/network that makes Lost Girl and Continuum) in Canada or some other network pick up some of these shows that syfyllis is dropping the ball on? I mean ffs Lost Girl and Continuum have some pretty bad writing and some bad acting (still watch them because fark you, that's why) and they're still going. You would think a network would kill to grab up a mostly successful property with a built in audience.

I'm currently hoping to see a halfway decent version of The Martian Chronicles.  Or, even a remake of The Ray Bradbury Theater.

You'd think with the successes of the Stargate franchise, Eureka, and Battlestar Galactica, SyFy would tilt toward that end, but they just keep cranking out low-grade schlock for new series' with some of the most tedious and clumsy writing I've ever seen.  For example, the characters on Defiance are just tropes and cliches that have been beaten to death on much better shows.

Well, I watched the first 2 episodes of Defiance, only made it though half the first episode of Warehouse 13 IIRC.
So, either you're an idiot or Syfy needs to get better at making their shows not suck at the start.

Well, after years of being on here that might be the first time I have been called an idiot. Ok, I'll bite.-Warehouse 13 is a show I like to share with my 10 year old. We laugh and marvel at the "artifacts" they come up with. And the it leads to fun talks afterwards. Plus, we met "Pete" at Motor City Comic Con and he was a really great guy and super nice to my son.
-Defiance : it is a Western, but different. It reminds me of bonanza or ponderosa. The writing is fine and the SFX are better than they are on Revolution (a show I gave up on) or that abortion Terranova.

2013-07-14 10:56:24 PM
I'm not saying they are perfect but there are way worse shows that get much better ratings and primetime spots all the while sucking like dollar store syphon. (Anything on TLC or "reality")

There is only so much decent television to choose from. I wish to be entertained. And wish for something halfway intelligent to share with my kid

I know it's schlock but I'll freely admit their adaptation of Being Human is a guilty pleasure of mine. Mostly because Meaghan Rath gives me a mighty large erection.

Sam Huntington is pretty funny too, I guess.

Seconded. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but I was hooked after the second episode of Season 1. And yes, Ms. Rath is delectable.

I'm actually liking Continuum now. It is starting to gel better in season 2 after the mixed bag of season 1, which had good ideas but mostly weak execution. This week actually worked in a great Breaking Bad joke.

Yeah, Continuum isn't that bad really, and it's better than a fair number of other shows out there. Lost Girl though, for all it's charms has some pretty bad writing, but goddamn the women on that show are hot.

Lost Girl is one of those shows that has so much potential that they just keep farking up with terrible writing and terrible plot ideas. What the show really needs to be is a Bo/Kenzi funny/sexy buddy show, set in an urban magical world. Sort of a sexed up Canadian Buffy-lite, with more comedy and less angst. Instead they keep bringing in terrible crap actors and terrible crap writers, ruining whatever Anna Silk and whatsherface Solo could do.

While it wasnt a "true" stargate series IMHO, I was enjoying Stargate: Universe and was enjoying where it was going when they canceled it. I dont understand what SyFy is thinking with its programming. It seems like they dont want to bother actually working to create a show long term and are more interested in spending 2 months throwing together something awful and calling it a day.

Things I would love SyFy to pick up and do with the quality they did Battlestar Galactica:

A "true" BSG prequel, not this caprica soap opera BS
A reboot of Quantum Leap
Bring back Stargate: Universe

They were supposedly working on an Alien Nation reboot.  That could have been fun with some long-running story arcs.  Not sure what happened to it.

Quantum Leap could go either way.  Despite it being a time travel show, I think they'd have to do it as a sequel instead of a reboot.  Get Scott Bacula back as the same character, only he's the hologram buddy for some other scientist who's doing the leaping.  Syfy probably wouldn't be able to afford him though.

I suspect many more people downloaded it than saw it live.

I, for example, watched it yesterday with about six other alcoholics.  This sort of viewing doesn't get counted by the networks, likely because the commercials were edited out.

Just have Sam show up in the pilot episode, with the series focused on his daughter leaping through time for whatever reason.  She's already part of the canon from the series.
