qlenfg: So what is Instagram? Filters to make photos shot with the latest mega-res cameras look like they were taken with an old beater phone with a dirty lens?

Enigmamf: qlenfg: So what is Instagram? Filters to make photos shot with the latest mega-res cameras look like they were taken with an old beater phone with a dirty lens? They are mimicking old cheap analog cameras, not early/cheap phone cameras. The photos from old film cameras show us a lost, simpler world that many who never lived through, or did so long enough to have forgotten, miss and feel nostalgia for.Nobody misses the early early camera phone era of the Oughts. Probably nobody ever will. It was a gilded era, but one so cheaply gilded that the gold was already flaking off as we watched it transpire. Also the high ISO and artifacty compression just does not inspire longing. In fact, it was probably the decade of widespread crappy camera phones that made people fall in love with old film photos to begin with - for all their weaknesses, they were often photographically far superior to most mid- and low-range pictures of the 00s.
