Naturally, if you haven't seen the game, his comments make no sense to you.  You can review the game he was talking about at:<a href="Teimour Radjabov  David Navara--Tata Steel (2012;) Neo-Grunfeld Defense: Misc. with 5.Nf3 (D73) 1-0 The comments then may make a lot more sense to you (if you know anything about chess).

Love strategy games, but never understood how chess is put such high in regard. Too much memorization...

It's not like memorization if you love & understand it...it's more like knowing the words of your favorite songs.

Also, the woman who asked the question, Bianca Muhren, upload.wikimedia.orgis a leading Dutch player, who does the post-game interviews at that tournament every year and would have just spent the last five hours watching the games that day,  so it would be completely reasonable for Radjabov to expect her to be able to follow a quick recap of the game.

// Play through the game. It's not that hard to understand.  He does give her the answer you are all looking for. Yes, he got lucky and won a piece.

I played chess a lot in high school. I was the head of the chess team, and won regional my senior year. From my own experiences, I am convinced that by the time you're a grand master you're completely insane. I was at the point of having difficulty not thinking about chess. I would wake in the middle of the night, my brain having solved while I was asleep a problem from a game I was analyzing earlier that day.

Chess is one of the only games where there is no element of chance. To win you have to out think your opponent and not make any mistakes.

Well there is a "bit" of chance in that whoever gets white is at an advantage.  A small bit (even best of 7 someone gets white 4 times to 3).  But it is more than memorization.  A LOT more.

Can someone mash this up better than I was able to?

I wanted to mute the right video AUTOMATICALLY, but I can't  figure out how to mute sound on right video other than just turning it off myself when videos start.

Also, when I try to delay left video it takes way too long to start playing.

In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces. ...

White has the advantage.

And that's not an element of chance...
