itsaidwhat: Government Fromage: Sorry I'm late to this thread. Has anyone said:It was suggested, but I read them all but I think you were the first w pic. Kudos.
shower_in_my_socks: tollbooth_willy: "In the police report, Gray claimed that Alexander came over to drop off their daughter, and that when he rebuffed Alexander's request to spend the night, she "became enraged and began striking him on the face." Gray said he raised his hands, the report continues, and he yelled out to his sons to call the police. The responding officer wrote that Gray's children corroborated that account. "Right, because an abusive husband with a criminal record of domestic abuse and a personal beef against the defendant is a really credible witness. And there's no way a guy's kids would lie to back up their dad, especially a dude with a history of violence against people close to him, right?
namatad: EvilRacistNaziFascist: ontariolightning: In other news (CBS News) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Florida woman who fired warning shots against her allegedly abusive husband has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.Disgraceful.IN WHAT universe was she not acquitted using the stand your ground statute?how was she even CHARGED in the first place?I cant wait until a politician, judge or a cop is killed and the killer gets off because he was standing his ground and felt his life was in jeopardy.
Fark It: Shryke: NBC has fired both reporters and issued a half assed apology already.I guess that makes everything OK. I mean, no harm no foul./this wasn't a minor transgression on the part of NBC, it was malicious and defamatory, and it was (still is, actually) dangerous
Curious: well i'm disappointed. this is the worse possible outcome. but hey i didn't hear the jury's instructions. i have by now read them. i really don't see how he got off although there is IMO lots of wiggle room in the instructions.
ontariolightning: Twitters bored of zimmerman now they are upset over Fins death
steamingpile: tenpoundsofcheese: tiggis: They cant file a wrongful death civil suit in this case because Stand your Ground is designed to not allow it.Stand Your Ground had NOTHING to do with this case.Seriously, why do people who didn't watch the trial or didn't understand it keep reporting "facts"?It does to a certain extent and was only rejected by the judge because of the way charges were filed. I feel there will be more people biatching about this for years and just won't get over it.
Treygreen13: Shryke: Boojum2k: Shryke: NBC has fired both reporters and issued a half assed apology already.Which buys zero hams, legally. They inflicted the damage, they are responsible for it. They basically committed a BP oil spill all over the American public. My point was NBC knows they are guilty of severe defamation. I predict a confidential settlement, 8 figures.I imagine NBC will drag their feet on it to keep Zimmerman in the news. So they can report on it.

TheEdibleSnuggie: Unless you get the verdict that YOU want to hear. This beyond a reasonable doubt thing...yeah, that's kind of important. And the prosecution didn't really do a good job of dispelling PLENTY of the doubt and confusion over what happened that night Trayvon died.
lecavalier: Then charge the person with the right crime.
BarkingUnicorn: She had no legal right to enter that house or even be within 100 yards of it.
BarkingUnicorn: He never laid a hand on her, according to her own statements. She claimed to be afraid that he would.
BarkingUnicorn: She couldn't get out of the garage because she left her keys and door opener in the kitchen. She went back to get them, taking a gun from the glove compartment of her car.
BarkingUnicorn: The shell casing was found on the kitchen floor, not in the garage.
Rwa2play: It's gonna be fun when the tables are turned: Older black man shoots white meth head trying to rob him but was fleeing when shot. Wonder if some on right will be so elated with "Stand Your Ground".
Popcorn Johnny: Well what do you know, now the NAACP is pushing for civil rights charges. Good luck with that.
MelGoesOnTour: For those of you bursting at the seams screaming "ZIMMERMAN STALKED A CHILD"....please at least acknowledge that this "child" was pretty buff-n-tuff looking. Also, it's not like your age is stamped on your forehead for all to see. Jus' Sayin'.
FlyingJ: Wil Wheaton@wilwStalking and shooting unarmed teenagers because you're a paranoid racist! AMIRIGHTGUYS?! YEAH! #farkYouGeorgeZimmermanDieInAFirehttps://twitter.com/wilw/status/356240381358247938Go home wil, you're drunk #JUSTICEFORCHRISCHAMBERS 1947-1987
Bag-o-Nugs: The moment you've broken into somebody's house they are within their legal rights to shoot you dead under Florida law.

Electrify: Dear Florida,Your gun laws are officially to the point where even Texas is wondering what the hell you are doing. A woman fires a warning shot in self defence gets 20 years, while a prejudiced gunman hunts down an unarmed teenager is let off scott free.As much money as you get from the NRA, I'm certain it pails in comparison to the money you get from tourism. Thanks to your ass-backwards attitude and your unwillingness to deal with it, people will no longer visit your state and your economy will suffer for it.Signed,Civilized society
shower_in_my_socks: Bag-o-Nugs: The moment you've broken into somebody's house they are within their legal rights to shoot you dead under Florida law.Ah, but not if they LEAVE THE SITUATION. Which apparently means just leaving the room. Remember?
Oldiron_79: ontariolightning: shiats on fire in OaklandItsn't that an improvement?
Delay: An armed man tracked down and killed a kid because of his skin color and the armed man disliked the kid's presence in the neighborhood..That's not guilty in Florida!Let's all agree, the American justice system is farked.
Mentat: That's a nice tidy definition, but it gets very confusing in real life situations. The Florida law in particular has been criticized by a task force that felt it couldn't be rewritten and should be repealed. Regardless, in a real life situation like this, no one is going to stop and say "Is this a SYG scenario?", they're going to react and let the court sort it out later. In fact, that seems to happen a lot in Florida. After all, if the only other witness is dead, who's to say you didn't feel your life was threatened? And again, we don't know exactly what happened when Trayvon confronted Zimmerman the final time. If he saw the gun, or if god forbid Zimmerman drew the gun, Trayvon could easily have felt he was in mortal danger. We'll never know though because he's dead and Zimmerman sure as hell will never admit to something like that.
rhiannon: So can you stir something up? Lot of people on Fark are depending on it
Daedalus27: We will have to see what tomorrow brings. I think the fact that the verdict was read late on a Saturday night helped prevent some misconduct that would otherwise occur as people were already out and about or in bed. We obviously will have a difference of opinion on the verdict. Did we resolve the more difficult and divisive issue concerning pancakes, waffles, french toast, or other as the favorite breakfast treat?
Electrify: Your gun laws are officially to the point where even Texas is wondering what the hell you are doing.
Popcorn Johnny: Couple hundred people marching through the streets of Oakland with a banner reading fark THE POLICEStream
sillydragon: torquestripe: RIOTS! Where have the riots gone?AND BLOODLETTING! Someone has to pay with blood!Whar is the rioting and bloodletting, whar!Well, there appear to be blah people rioting and torching things in the little pocket universe inside Amos Quitos' skull. Out here in reality, it seems pretty quiet. There was a guy streaming from Chicago, but I think the batteries on his phone gave out or something. Most aggressive thing I saw was a guy wearing a "Fark the police"-type t-shirt. Hell, they were even waiting to cross with the light at intersections.
