When you really look a Florida law, they could have beat it without stand your ground. It would probably qualify as justifiable homicide just because Zs nose was messed up.

All this "justice" talk is dumb. It's the law. I consider Sharia law unjust, but it's the law where people are willing to live with it.

WhyteRaven74: Demonrats: The similarities are that neither the rape victim or Zimmerman did anything illegal.

Except for the whole stalking someone thing, it's illegal everywhere to just follow someone for the purposes of intimidation. Also for all we know, and there's no way he'd fess up to it, he might have had his gun drawn the whole time. In which case Martin would've been well within his rights to stand his ground.

Dude, you need to understand the legal definition of the legal terms you are using.

Let's not forget, our President has killed 4700x more than Zimmerman has. Most are innocent men, women and children.

You mean, like a crime? One that endangered her children, at that?

Exactly like that.

Can't say I've ever committed a crime because I let my emotions run away with my god given sense. Is this a common thing that happens to women? I would think they would be running wild in the streets if it was.....

She went into the garage of her own house to arm herself and then told her abusive husband to get the fark out before shooting a single shot into the ceiling. Give me a farking break.

It''s not like she got out of her car, tracked her husband down on a public sidewalk, and then shot him to death, right???

so, she extricated herself from the situation, entered a means of farking escape from the vicinity, got a gun, reentered the situation and fired "warning shots" that could have killed children but you can't see how that's kinda different than this or how she wasn't "standing her ground" after she had already ceded the ground and farking left the allegedly dangerous situation?

You're not even trying to make sense, are you?

Have you ever been a woman in an abusive relationship that just got sick of him smacking you around and maybe was so hurt and embarrassed and enraged that you might have done something that ''doesn't make sense?"

I have never been a woman, no. Is this one of those situations where we can't comment on the legality of a person's actions because we're not that person in question?

You can comment all you like, I was simply curious as to your level of understanding ''what made sense " to this particular woman in this particular situation. On this point I don't really think you can speak intelligently.

unless shower_in_my_socks is the woman in question, I have not commented on whether anything she did "made sense" so I have no idea what the fark you're talking about

Most of you (and definitely I) did not hear and see the evidence, or at least all of the evidence and testimony, nor hear the full arguments by both sides. Those that did found Zimmerman not guilty (or at least found that the state had not made a compelling case).

So please explain why you know better than them, when they have a more complete picture of the evidence and arguments than you do?

And of course, just as with OJ, there may be a second look with a second case, where the issue will be examined with a lower standard of proof. But why should your opinion be better than more informed opinions?

What if they are threatened by that violent attacker because they provoked the confrontation by chasing him down?

Someone who goes home and comes back to confront someone hasn't been "chased down."

If he was heading home he had 4 minutes to travel 300 ft' he could have done that carrying 4 boxes of skittles and 5 cases of watermelon juice. He decided to hang around for some odd reason and attack a man that was unfortunately armed. That was a very poor decision that created this tragedy.

SHE HADN'T RETREATED. Her husband strangled her. She tried to leave, but COULDN'T. She went to her garage, but couldn't get out, so she grabbed a gun from her car and fired a warning shot to get her husband to GTFO. He had a history of domestic abuse against her, and a criminal record for assaulting other women. And she had a RESTRAINING ORDER against him. Jesus, man...

I think the law is farked up too. And Florida's citizens realized it was farked up months ago when this thing started growing. But you're right, they could have beat it even without the stand-your-ground clause. I think it's stupid that they could.

But in the end, it doesn't matter what I think or what the Fark Lawyers think. The law may be unjust, but it's still the law. And those of us not clutching our pearls of social justice could plainly see that there was no way in hell Zimmerman was going to get a conviction.

I am outraged at the lack of grumpy cat pics saying "good".  As for Florida, I vacation there every year and I defend the state.  They don't have laws, they have strong suggestions.  But of course I stay in a very small area that has no crime. I have lived there as well, and there are some shiatty areas.

I thought this as well until someone pointed out that prosecution witness and Martin's friend Rachel Jeantel testified he made it home first. So, if she's to be believed, he went back to confront Zimmerman.

We can all agree that the American Justice System is working in this case, because the prosecution failed to produce sufficient evidence to send someone to jail for murder. You have to watch the trial to be angry about it.

2013-07-14 01:43:26 AM

tbeatty: purple kool-aid and a jigger of formaldehyde: How do you know that Zimmerman didn't start it by confronting that kid, the kid was scared because the creepy cracker was following him and defended himself and when Zimmerman started to get his ass kicked he killed him? That's just as plausible. Only those two know and one of them is dead so...
Seems to me that they have just sent a msg that if you want to kill someone, just start some shiat, start to get your ass kicked and then you can kill them now. Not saying that is what Zimmerman did, just saying looks like you could get away with doing that now.

Because they examined the body for injuries.  Trayvon had knuckle injuries and a gunshot wound.  No other injuries.  He wasn't punched or scratched.  Zimmerman had injuries to his nose and the back of his head.  He didn't have anything but injuries consistent with being beaten by Trayvon's fist and concrete sidewalk.   It is very clear that the fight started off very one-sided and ended abruptly with the gunshot. Zimmerman didn't land a single blow.  Kind of hard to start a fight without the injuries associate with an aggressor.

Bah! Like the jury should have let anything like, you know, scientific and factual evidence prevent them from caving into mass media pressure!

Seriously though, you are 100% right and the jury obviously saw the same thing.

Yet it worked when Jodi Arias was convicted.

Let's agree that fallible humans are in charge of parsing laws they barely know to determine whether a guy did or did not legitimately fear for his life when confronted by the person he was tailing.

But it beats the alternatives. Right, Germany, Italy, and Russia?
