And Casey Anthony.  I knew as soon as the incompetent prosecutor allowed the jury to be made up of 6 white women that this wannabe cop asshat would get off.

I don't know anything about that, but I was pretty sure this guy would be acquitted simply because it was a case and trial that received national attention.

That attention tends to get the defendant a better shot at representation, and the national media focus prevents some things that favor the prosecution.

Mistymtnhop: skullkrusher: shower_in_my_socks: skullkrusher: she LEFT the situation, got a farking gun and then REENTERED the situation. Stop doing a disservice to an actual problem by being a jackhole

She went into the garage of her own house to arm herself and then told her abusive husband to get the fark out before shooting a single shot into the ceiling. Give me a farking break.

It''s not like she got out of her car, tracked her husband down on a public sidewalk, and then shot him to death, right???

so, she extricated herself from the situation, entered a means of farking escape from the vicinity, got a gun, reentered the situation and fired "warning shots" that could have killed children but you can't see how that's kinda different than this or how she wasn't "standing her ground" after she had already ceded the ground and farking left the allegedly dangerous situation?

You're not even trying to make sense, are you?

Have you ever been a woman in an abusive relationship that just got sick of him smacking you around and maybe was so hurt and embarrassed and enraged that you might have done something that ''doesn't make sense?"

I have never been a woman, no. Is this one of those situations where we can't comment on the legality of a person's actions because we're not that person in question?

ChaosStar: StreetlightInTheGhetto: But no, making out Trayvon to be a punk thug kid does NOT have bearing NOR should it justify ANYTHING.

Wrong
It goes to mindset.
If you can show TM was into criminal activity, and had a history of violence, then it can show what sort of decision he could have made that night while being followed by GZ.
Since he does have a violent past, it's perfectly reasonable to believe GZ's claim that TM hit him first then continued to attack. That's certainly relevant, wouldn't you say?

No, it's not relevant at all.  If he was the violent thug he was portrayed as being, he would have attacked Zimmerman while Zimmerman was following him in his car.  Instead, he confronted ZImmerman and then ran away to see if Zimmerman would follow him.  Those aren't the actions of someone looking to start a fight.  If Zimmerman had stayed in his car, Trayvon probably would have wandered off after a few minutes or would have still been waiting there when the cops arrived.

shower_in_my_socks: And even if you think it was wrong, 20 farking years? Really?

Florida has mandatory minimums for any crime committed with a gun. They apply to everyone regardless of race - white, black, green, half-hispanic, whatever.

She was offered a 3yr plea deal, which is something that no many people get when they are so obviously guilty.

She was told self-defense and SYG would not apply, but knowing there was a mandatory minimum if she was sentenced to a crime, she rolled the dice and decided to push it to a trial anyway. The jury deliberated for less than 20 minutes on her guilt, given that she admitted to reckless endangerment with a firearm at the trial.

2013-07-14 01:27:03 AM
Prosecution ruined their case by trying to use "he was just a kid" defense.   Trayvon is/was not a kid; he was a young adult.  They COULD have gotten Murder-2 if they just didn't try to use the "emotional pulling of the heart strings" bullshiat that 90% of their case happened to be.

There was so many things wrong with this whole case; but even trying for Murder-2 was a big big mistake (regardless of previous sentence).  While Zimmerman had a gun on his persons, unless they could have proved with a unreasonable doubt that Zimmerman had his gun drawn and ready to fire when he stepped out of his car and went to find Trayvon on foot; then at most all this was is Negligent Homicide.

Granted, Zimmerman COULD have been lying about who confronted whom first (walked up into personal space) and who threw the first punch -- but at the end of the day, they didn't have the evidence to prove Zimmerman had malice in wanting to take this persons life [Murder-2]. Yes; Zimmerman was tired of 'punks getting away with it' [committing crimes and not getting arrested]; but just because he expressed said persons [including Trayvon] as punks doesn't automatically mean he has intent to murder said punks.

Did Zimmerman bate Trayvon into throwing a sucker punch which allowed Trayvon to get the upper hand and then allow Trayvn to jump on top of him -- JUST so he could later pull out his gun and shoot him? Not even the Tin Foil Hat Brigade is willing to touch that...

Just posting to make sure I was here. I called this verdict the first night it happened. The Fark Lawyers decided to throw the internet book of law at me when I told them that there was no way the Jury would convict the guy beyond a reasonable doubt.

Regardless of whether or not he murdered him, the fact there were debates here, in Florida, across the nation, across the internet machine, etc., was proof enough there was a reasonable doubt it was murder. When you debate something like this, you prove there is a reasonable doubt in the equation.

This trial was over before it even started, and the Fark Lawyers can go back to renewing their GED in Law. It doesn't matter what your gut feeling or your sense of social justice tells you, there was a reasonable doubt he didn't murder the guy.

But go ahead and just call me a racist just because I know how the justice system works in this country.

What if they are threatened by that violent attacker because they provoked the confrontation by chasing him down?  You shouldn't be able to escalate a situation and/or provoke a fight and then claim self-defense when the fight turns against you.  It's nothing more than a grown-up version of the "He hit me first!" defense.

SHE HADN'T RETREATED. Her husband strangled her. She tried to leave, but COULDN'T. She went to her garage, but couldn't get out, so she grabbed a gun from her car and fired a warning shot to get her husband to GTFO. He had a history of domestic abuse against her, and a criminal record for assaulting other women. And she had a RESTRAINING ORDER against him. Jesus, man...

SYG and self defense would not come to bear in wreckless endangerment situation, if you shoot someone in a 100% self defence manner in which the prosecution doesn't even charge you for shooting them, but a bystander is hit by a stray bullet you can and will be charged for injuring the bystander,

2013-07-14 01:33:28 AM

arentol: Handy to know that in Florida you can murder anyone you like just by making sure they get a few licks in on you before you pull your gun and shoot them.

The Prosecution should have gone for Assault with a Deadly Weapon in addition to Murder in this case. That would have brought in a section of Florida law that makes it clear that you can't claim self defense if you initiate a confrontation while armed. So then if the jury felt he was guilty of the assault charge they would also have to get him for murder as well.

Oh well, he will be farked in the civil case and his life is ruined now anyway. Still a HELL of a lot better off than Trayvon Martin, but at least he won't get a pass to an easy life.

Butthurt much?  Let me kick it one more time for ya.  In Florida, if you are found not guilty and/or acquitted of murder/manslaughter charges after making a self-defense claim, you are protected from any lawsuits brought against you stemming from that action.  So no, there will be no civil case for him to be farked in, as it should be.

2013-07-14 01:33:30 AM

nelsonal: The police investigated and ruled self defense.

NOT TRUE. The original investigators requested a warrant to arrest Zimmerman and labeled the case "homicide/negligent manslaughter." The state prosecutor wanted to wait, but finally gave the investigators what they wanted after the rest of the country gave them a big "WTF?"
