StreetlightInTheGhetto: bigsteve3OOO: Albert: Obama, the DOJ, and the media attempted to railroad Zimmerman, This case was 100% political and anyone who thinks Zimmerman is guilty is probably an angry black person or you've been completely fooled and spun up by the lying media.

AMEN. This should have never been more than a local story where no one was charged.

Jesus this white lady who doesn't watch cable news feels f--king sorry for you two. And disgusted.

Pleased that by Florida law he's not guilty, fine. Celebrating, diaf.

A unarmed teen dead with only the survivor to definitely tell most of the tale - you think no one should have been charged??? That's what our f--king courts are FOR, to sort this sh-t out!

WRONG! That is what investigators are for. The original ones said no case here. then Obama forced them to a trial. It is a sick use of the bully pulpit.

From the other thread, because I have to respond:

If you honestly believe the only reason the trial took place is because "OBAMA FORCED THEM TO A TRIAL", you are a f--king idiot. Although to be fair I am slightly envious of you. Ignorance is bliss, and it must be nice to be so SURE of things, all the time. And to have an easy target that you can blame when anything disturbs you, so you know where to direct your anger you truly know is justified.

I would never want that for myself, but at the same time, I can see how comforting that must be to you.

The police investigated and ruled self defense.  Obama and Holder used the bully pulpit to stir unrest and a weak governor up for re-election knew that his re-election hopes would be scuttled by major unrest, assigned a special prosecutor and brought charges.  As the trial made exceedingly clear (and verdict agreed) no laws were broken and the original ruling was correct.  You can work to change the law you dislike, but this has always been a political stunt masquerading as a trial.

That's the only reason I cared, the idea that national level politicians could or would work to imprison someone simply because an act looked so unpopular is a major slap in the face of rights free men have had since a bunch of rebellious barons forced King John to sign the Magna Carta.

TsukasaK: Elegy: The fact that people can't understand that firing a "warning shot" is reckless endangerment with a firearm

That doesn't even make sense.

But then again, this is Florida we're talking about..

Ok, my first serious post tonight, If you feel safe enough to shoot a warning shot.....you do not feel in danger enough to use a deadly weapon.  In order to fire that warning shot you did indeed fire a deadly weapon and endangered all people within range of it.  Therefore you are both a moron and guilty of reckless endangerment.  Center mass only.  period.

Honestly, I don't really care what temp my syrup is, so long as it's actual maple and not corn with brown coloring.

As for fruit pies, I want to find out who is responsible for this crap trend of seving them ice cold and made of processed bullshiat.  Seriously, it is not hard to make a pie, and cold is farking stupid, it would be like serving pancakes cold, get your act together America.

Lost in all of this I think we see a devastated Zimmerman, people reacting to a judgement of violence with more violence and the fact that we still have a young man who lost his life too early.

not surprising that people who didn't know the facts of the case would find this ruling controversial.

purple kool-aid and a jigger of formaldehyde:

How do you know that Zimmerman didn't start it by confronting that kid, the kid was scared because the creepy cracker was following him and defended himself and when Zimmerman started to get his ass kicked he killed him? That's just as plausible. Only those two know and one of them is dead so...
Seems to me that they have just sent a msg that if you want to kill someone, just start some shiat, start to get your ass kicked and then you can kill them now. Not saying that is what Zimmerman did, just saying looks like you could get away with doing that now.

Well playing Devils advocate for a minute, lets suppose you are right about that, Its the prosecutions burden to prove that 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt, not the defenses burden to prove 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt it didn't happen.

I understand your point, but I think this represents a step back when I was hopeful that we were slowly working our way forward.  Not only would my hypothetical son know that his life is in the hands of people around him, I think it would suggest (maybe re-suggest?) that he's not worth protecting by society.

Elegy: ChaosStar: skullkrusher: Elegy: Skeptigal: You stupid FLORIDIOTS! Too bad "stand your ground" is only a defense if you're white. A woman who fired warning shots at her husband who was coming at her (she had a protective order against him), was just sentenced to 20 yrs in prison. For attempted manslaughter. In Florida. Guess what color she is?

Guess what? She broke into her SO's house when she had a restraining order against him, confronted him, left his house to get her gun out of her car, returned to continue to argument, and fired a "warning shot" that deflected off the wall and into the ceiling when her children were standing in the same room.

Oh yeah, there was a 911 call where she could be clearly heard saying "I got something for you" and then a shot.

Then she insisted she had a SYG defense when she had a plea deal on the table and rolled the dice on a trial when the charges she was up against had a 20 year mandatory minimum.

Marissa Alexander has no one to blame but herself for going to jail.

BUT I WANNA BE MAD

Can you link a citation for all those facts of the case?
I was looking for it after reading that post but every article I've found has been very light on the actual events.

Damn - there was a good article discussing it that has been buried under all of the other media coverage and I can't find it now.

The best I can find ATM is a an discussion with an exasperated Angela Corey.

Note that the jury took less than 20 minutes to convict Alexander - it's not like the verdict was in doubt in terms of the charges brought against her. She admitted to most of them in court. The fact that people can't understand that firing a "warning shot" is reckless endangerment with a firearm, and that such an act carries a very high mandatory minimum in the state of Florida (a state with high mandatory minimums for all gun crime), just baffles me.

See that's what it sounded like to me, because you just simply cannot fire a warning shot no matter which buffoon of a VPOTUS tells you otherwise. I didn't want to weigh in without actually knowing what happened though.
Even going out and getting her gun from the car wasn't against the law if it was her place.

/needs to happen
//sooner rather than later

Wow, so much butthurt over not getting your way.

I think Zimmerman should have gone to jail, but the prosecution simply didn't have enough evidence to convict.  That's how the system works.  Deal with it.

I think IF they had actually gone for manslaughter or some kind of child abuse charges, then MAYBE they would have gotten a conviction.  Telling the jury for weeks its' murder and then at the last minute, please find him guilty of at least manslaughter just didn't work out too well for them.

Unless they were actually trying to throw the case.

/although the withholding/deleting of evidence on Martin's phone kind of negates that theory
//why would the State tell the jury that Martin was still wearing his earbuds when their own agents put it in writing they found them in his pocket???

How does it not make sense? If you fire into the air, you have NO CLUE where that round will come down. If you fire into a wall, then there is always the chance a round will deflect or over penetrate and hit someone you didn't intend to shoot.

You always shoot at what you intend to hit, and you only pull the trigger when you're aiming at something you want to hit; you NEVER just fire a firearm off with no damn idea where the round is going to land.

I don't have cable TV, but I am watching a live stream of MSNBC and now I know why so many people were upset with the verdict. All that it is right now is race bating and misinformation about this trial. Sharpton is asking questions and inferring incorrect answers. Example: When I leave the building can someone follow me and then kill me? He forgets to mention that he needs to get on someone and beat them up before he gets shot, but hey, he is just like Whoopie Goldberg.

Whoopie asked John McCain about constructionalist judges when he was running for president and asked if she would be a slave again since that was in the Constitution. The correct answer is if we can get enough senators, reps, and state to ratify the Constitution to make slavery legal again you are screwed anyhow.

2013-07-13 11:35:15 PM

bigsteve3OOO: If you feel safe enough to shoot a warning shot.....you do not feel in danger enough to use a deadly weapon.

Problem is that it creates a perverse incentive to kill someone over possibly scaring them off. If I fire off to the side of someone purposely, I've only "endangered" whatever that gun was pointing at.

Put another way, if I point a gun to my left in such a way that you are not in front of it, you are not in danger, law be damned. Bullets do not work that way.

I kind of wonder how much of a thing it is to have someone with a gun be approached threateningly by someone who doesn't think they'll shoot. Pretty stupid thing to do, but we're talking about both criminals, and Florida.

Tom_Slick: odinsposse: So I love pancakes. From my mom's side I was passed down recipes for Swedish pancakes and lefse. My dad is an expert at traditional pancakes and has done some good crepes as well. I haven't done any of it. However I've been thinking of investing in pancake griddle like this one and really getting into it. Anyone use one like it? Don't tell me about cast iron. I've bought and thrown out two cast iron skillets because I can never get them seasoned right and they rust like crazy.

Go for an electric griddle if you don't want to mess with cast iron, I have one of these.  It provides very controllable even heat to make your pancakes turn out perfectly.  The secret to a cooking a good pancake is and even heat source, generally non cast iron pans will have hot and cold spots.

That's actually a good idea. That one is probably too big for me but I'm sure I can find one smaller.

2013-07-13 11:35:34 PM

Rwa2play: Coco LaFemme: Of course he got off.  All you need to do anymore to get away with murder is say you felt "threatened."  Doesn't matter what color anyone is in this equation.  Two white people, two black people, mixed...doesn't really matter.  As long as you the shooter tell the jury that you were afraid for your life, you could justify killing an infant if it came down to it.

That's how farked up this country is right now.

It's gonna be fun when the tables are turned:  Older black man shoots white meth head trying to rob him but was fleeing when shot.  Wonder if some on right will be so elated with "Stand Your Ground".

What you describe is not "stand your ground". It's hard to argue that you reasonably fear for your life from somebody running away from you.

2013-07-13 11:35:38 PM

Pichu0102: Anyone who celebrates this should be shunned.
Anyone who threatens him should be prosecuted.
Anyone who thinks this means "open season on whatever minority I don't like" should be prosecuted.
Violent rioters should be prosecuted.

Furthermore, everyone should be depressed. A kid is dead, his family is scarred, and a man's life was thrown into chaos and will likely be haunted by this for the rest of his life.

No one wins no matter what happens. My main concern was that people would celebrate this trial's conclusion, despite what a horrible thing that is to celebrate, and I was proven right.

Damn, what a buzzkill...
