How can I be sure this isn't another one of those threads where a guy wants to punch someone in the tumor?

If you need help finding insurance (or retroactive medicaid) let me know, or better yet let the social workers at the hospital know -they can work wonders. If they can't let me know.

Little backstory. Went to the ER on the 17th of June for what I thought was my appendix. I thought wrong. Stage 2 colon cancer. The tumor has 2 aggressive traits. I have 6 months of chemo to look forward to. Social Security may take up to 6 months to kick in and I can't work at my job until released from a doctors care. I weld pipe in a pipe manufacturing facility. No AC, I can't move the heavy pipe around to align it correctly for welding. Etc. so basically until I'm cancer free I and jobless. I still have my regular bills to pay, rent, utilities, food, etc. medication is expensive. Just spent my last 120 bucks on Doxycycline and Lortab. I'm not looking to get rich just trying to survive the best I can.

See if they can switch you to Doxycycline Monohydrate. Maybe it'll save a few bucks. We just moved to the conversion from the Hyclate. Diff. salts, but the doctor and pharmacist can work it out. I'm assuming the Doxy took up the majority of that bill.

Your profile states Military family, did you serve? Eligible for VA care?

Wish you the best. It's a long road to travel.

I don't really have much money at the moment but your story touched me and you obviously need it more. And you're way less annoying than public radio fundraisers.

Unfortunately I was not in the Military long enough to really get any type of benefits. Thanks to everyone who has donated thus far everything helps!

How long were you in?

Obamacare has changed the VA eligibility requirements. Priority group 8 Veterans can now get care.

If you served at least 2 years active duty with an Honorable Discharge, you should be eligible for care.

Check out this website:

http://www.needymeds.org/

It list ways of getting discounts on medication and ways of getting help with copays and other such assistance. The disclaimer is that I have never directly used it but some people I know have found it useful.

And as someone whose grandfather died of colon cancer let me say this: If someone in your immediate family has ever had colon cancer get yourself screened as well. If you get regular checks for colon cancer. For me I was told every five years, even though I'm not 50.

First off, oh my god am I sorry.  Last summer, on this day to be exact, I found myself in the ER with what I though was just some really bad abdominal pain.  It was not.  I left the hospital six days later missing my appendix, part of my large and small intestines.... and a diagnosis of Lymphoma (blood cancer).  The tumor had collapsed my intestines, causing a blockage and the intense pain that sent me to the hospital.  It sounds like what you're going through is very, very similar.  You must be scared, I was (and still am, truthfully).

I would love to help out, but for obvious reasons I'm not in a position to do so.  My own medical bills keep coming, despite having insurance, it's like a death by a thousand cuts.  If you need someone to talk to or advice about how to prepare for chemo, PM me, I'll do my best to help.
