injuries and buying into people coming of career years will do that to you

They came down with 2011-2012 Red Soxitis.

Maybe they were told the season was going to have a standing start.

As long as they don't end up like the 2013 Red Sox (as they have been so far), I'm fine with this.

And he forgot to mention the only other good thing about this season, the promising esmil Rogers. Could be our fifth starter, and I'm just hoping we maintain the majority of this roster for next year.

But the real answer is injuries subby. Lost the majority of our starters and some key position players.

Why did I think this was going to be a Maple Leafs thread?

Re: maintaining roster,

He said in the article that pretty much there's one free agent after this season: Josh Johnson.

I was optimistic until about last week when after the win streak they trailed off again.

I honestly don't know how to describe this lineup doing what it's doing.

I do have questions about there always being SOOOO many injuries with this team.

8 games out of a playoff spot is no way to meet the all star break Toronto.

Maybe I'll just stop watching sports and take up drunken knitting in my backyard, it's sure to be as fruitful.

/Argos won the Grey Cup last year, The Rock are constant champion threats but who farking cares.
//All of the teams owned by the same faceless and, though I'm a customer, evil corporation are floundering except for the Leafs who, after making the playoffs for the first time in 9 years managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Drunken knitting I guess.

Is Rogers really that evil? I'm not Canadian so I have no idea, but do they approach AT&T levels of despicable?

They're an attempted monopoly that charges ludicrous prices. They were founded by a man who, in College, had the best antenna in his dorm so he charged his friends HOURLY to watch tv in his room. Cash, not 'bring a six pack'.

Their bills are intentionally obtuse and filled with mysterious charges, their customer service line is designed to make you hang up.

They still have the best service in town, but it comes with a price: your self respect for doing business with them. I could go on, but I won't.

Does that bring them on par with AT&T?

You left out exploiting Canadian protectionism laws to keep competitors out so they can keep charging incredibl yhigh prices while delivering some of the worst service in the developed world.

...and going back to baseball, you either have to watch the Jays at the Rogers Centre, tune in to Rogers Sportsnet or listen to a Rogers-owned radio station. MLB Extra Innings doesn't carry Jays games, either, as far as I know. Other TV stations (TSN, CBC) used to carry a few games a year until Rogers priced them out.

The problem with the Blue Jays is that their bottom 3 in the lineup is ATROCIOUS. I went to a Jays/Tribe game on Tuesday, and I saw this was their 7-9:

Maicer Izturis (rocking a sub-80 WRC+, an ISO of less than .100 at 3B)
JP Arrencibia (OBA of .259, just steller stuff)
Emilio Bonficacio (If he qualified, he'd be the worst hitter in baseball at a 49 WRC+. A sub .250 OBA while being a terrible defensive 2B)

Their starting may even out. Lawrie coming back will help with their 3B situation. But they need a better 2B and C. I mean, Bonifacio is so bad that he was pinch hit for Josh Thole, who has managed to be bad enough to accumulate a negative WAR of .5 this year in only 44 plate appearances. Their bench right now is Thole, Izturis and 38 year old Mark DeRosa. That needs to get fixed. Because that is the worst bottom 3rd of a lineup I've ever seen, and that means something coming from an Indians fan whose seen the Indians trot out Jose Lopez a cleanup hitting DH. I would take a bottom 3 of Brent Lillibridge, Jack Hannahan and Ezequiel Carrera over that.

Same as the Leafs, good players with zero chemistry.
