Because of global warming, I thought the oceans were getting warmer. And with the rising sea level, I thought all the Virgina beaches were under water already.  This news is shocking.

Hopefully it means the tourists will leave Va Beach early this year. Was at the oceanfront about 2 weeks ago and it was nuts. Just because you're on vacation it doesn't mean you get to do whatever the fark you want.

That's why I always head to the eastern shore. Va Beach is, and has been, filled with asses.

Only if you're stupid. Warmer atmosphere means more energy, which means more wind, which means more upwelling. Eventually, the upwelling cold water will be a few degrees warmer than it is now because of the second law of thermodynamics. Virginia beaches are steep enough that they are as yet relatively unaffected, but those global warming alarmists in the U.S. Navy are already preparing for it.

You're logic:

"It snowed yesterday! Global Warming is bullshiat!"

"This one spot in the ocean is colder than normal. Global Warming is bullshiat!"

If the water is warmer than normal, it is because of global warming.
If the water is colder than normal, it is because of global warming.
If the water temp shows no change, it is because global warming is counteracting other forces.

And humans are the cause of it.
So we must tax something.

If I knew a warehouse full of information, this colder water wouldn't be "shocking," wood it?

Just spent the weekend in Duck with the ladyfriend and her family. As a west coast kid I was expecting very warm water, and it was no different from my beloved Pacific. In fact, my arms started going numb after too long in the water.

Of course, you could always look at why you're getting unexpected temperatures. For example:

Colder than normal waters? Why?
Increased upwelling.
Why are we getting increased upwelling?
Well, upwelling is generally driven by surface winds.
Why might there be an increase in surface winds?
Surface temperature over land is increasing at a greater rate than surface temperature over water. This increasing differential drives coastal winds.
Why might land surface surface temperatures be increasing?

Chicks Beach and Nags Head are usually my go to spots. Sandbridge used to be the little secret place but it's slowly turning into Va Beach Oceanfront pt. II.

Nags Head isn't much better during peak summer times, but I love it there a bit off season and a bit further away from the outlets. At least it's vacation homes and not too many hotels. The Oceanfront is just a line of huge hotels. It's a total viewkiller.

Here in Virginia Beach, VA, I been fishing and catching fish that typically only show up while the Gulf stream is close to shore.  The bay water temp has been in the upper 70s.

So not so cold.

Yep, that's why I like the barrier islands and fishing villages of the DelMarVa. it's an easier going atmosphere..

stay in Chincoteague, hang on the beach on Assateague, do the astro science tourist stuff on Wallops,

and for the resort type of stuff, Ocean City Md is a half hour up the road.

I'm going to plan my next trip out that way around some sounding rocket launches at Wallops.

Tangier island in the middle of the bay is pretty cool, quirky, and isolated. If I had any kind of writing talent. I would like to write a series of absurdest humor fantasy/thriller stories using Tangier as the backdrop.

Most of the tourists seem to be families from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Quebec, in that order, and tend to be largely blue-collar. We also have a large contingent of African-American college students as visitors during select weekends.

Those of us who live here have learned to easily ignore Pat and PETA and avoid the tourist areas. The city is after all about 250 square miles in area; the visitors occupy a small area near the oceanfront and are easily ignored.

oh yeah, obviously, I live in Richmond BTW and we never really hear anything about Y'all in the Hampton roads, Newport news Portsmouth area unless weirdness is a afoot. and only when nonesense is going down at the waterfront is when we hear about our coastal brethren. it is no wonder that most Virginians hoof it to the outer banks for vacation time.

the last time I spent an overnight at the waterfront the evening was concluded with me trying to get some sleep, A cop showing up at the hotel room door, and me yelling "RATTY! get this farking GUTTER PUNK CARNIE WANNA BE ASSHOLE OUT OF MY ROOM!"

I found a better caliber of associates soon after.  and have determined that anyone who wants to "move to the beach" as someone that just wants to keep the vacation going forever.

I'm a native of Elizabeth City, so that was my go-to beach for years.  I'm up near DC now, and I miss that place.
