FTFA:  Gov. Rick Scott, you are a dumbass.

This is really how all articles about Gov. Skeletor should begin.

Is Florida incapable of paying for it's own Guard? Or is the Guard still all Federalized from the war?

How about this:

Gov Scott, who again today failed to do the right thing and kill himself, was in Tampa this morning for the opening of a new strip mall...

Well, Florida should implement a free market solution and hire Xe or the like to provide security.

It's just a tropical storm, it's not like it's something we're not used to, this one shouldn't be an issue.  Now, if a Cat-5 starts bearing down on us later this year, we'll have some problems.

Belt-tightening is always something someone else needs to do, and you have a valid reason for not doing.

Sorry GOP - this is one bed you should be forced to lie in.

Yeah, this particular one is not significant.  But hopefully it will give these knuckleheads a wake up call.  Though given Jindal and Scott's mewling to Obama I'm doubtful that they really get it.

In fact, a super majority should be required in both houses before a penny is spent by FEMA or any federal rescue.

Eff you, Voldemort, I hate to see innocent people suffer for the stupidity of their elected leaders, but you really cannot cut funding for things and magically not expect there to be effects. When everyone was yelling "the sequester is really, really bad" and you chose to ignore it you can't complain that you didn't know that this would happen, people tried to warn you.

You act like he's capable of understanding anything other than his immediate personal needs. Some people are so devoid of imagination that they cant envision anything other than the reality immediately confronting them. Those people become Republicans.

2013-07-12 03:15:19 PM
This does highlight quite nicely the central intellectual deficit of the entire republican belief set: Specifically, a complete inability to see that the consequences of policy x, which currently negatively affect other people, may at some stage in the future affect them in the EXACT SAME negative way.

there was an article here a month or so back, where a small town out west had it's economy hurt because the sequester closed down a national park or something. Most of the people were literally saying things like "This isn't what I thought would happen when I supported it"

To be fair, neither governor is responsible for the sequestration.  But maybe some more governors should have poked their states' members of Congress and said, "Um...guys?"

Yeah, but they aren't yelling at Boehner or McConnell to fix it (or for having caused it), they're somehow trying to lay this at Obama's feet, so this seems more like partisan asshattery than "hey, lawmakers, can we actually fix this now?"

It's not going to matter.  Once Fartbongo declares martial law in the midst of the rioting there will be plenty of US and Russian troops to keep order.

This is the central problem of democrats. They keep believing that, if given another chance, republicans will see their hypocrisy and change their ways. Which is akin to trying to persuade a flaming bag of dogshiat not to be on fire or shiatty by pointing out that it is a flaming bag of dog shiat. It doesn't care. It's a bag of dogshiat.

Scott joined with two other Southern Republican governors whose states are in the path of tropical storms to write a letter to President Obama urging him to call off the furloughs.

Carry on, citizen.

Seems to me the President ought to just write a letter *back*.

"Governors Scott, Jindal and Bryant-

If you care to see the source of your current difficulties, you need only look at your own party. The existence of the furloughs you are asking me to cancel is owed entirely to their intransigence, and the need for the furloughs could easily be removed if your party were willing to negotiate in good faith.

I suggest you contact your representatives and party leadership if you truly wish to address this problem, as there is nothing I can do in the face of the law they drafted and passed.

Good luck."

He needn't specify whether he is wishing them luck with getting their representatives to fall into line, or with mounting a response to a disaster without the National Guard.

If I were a fundamentalist in Florida I would be torn. I wouldn't want damage to my state, but this is the first big opportunity to claim God is angry with us for finding DOMA unconstitutional.
