Nigel gave me a drawing that said 44 inches. Now, whether or not he knows the difference between feet and inches is not my problem. I do what I'm told.

Let me sum him up this way:

He ran a file locker site. FBI raided his house in New Zealand and shutdown his company.

He has successfully fought extradition by making New Zealand authorities look like US toadies.

/Also he was the worlds #1 Call of Duty Player

He was the guy behind the Megaupload site that stored a lot of info for a lot of people. The site was shut down because it heavily facilitated piracy of digital content (movies, games, you name it). There were legal higenks involved in the shut down by the New Zealand and American governments. It pissed a lot of people off and now they support Kim Dotcom.

However, Kim is a total douche and a lot of people tend to ignore he is a born scam artist/fraudster.

I find it funny that this is done by a country who only recently has left its Stasi past and has museums dedicated to how absolutely paranoid its nation and people were that they criticize the USA for its intrusion. Last time I had a birthday card sent to me, it wasn't opened by my government, resealed with a clone stamp with the contents document and money removed.

The article didn't say whether or not anyone was actually arrested. It just said that there was an investigation. Also the embassy didn't want to press any charges. So basically nothing will happen and nobody will be arrested.

You're getting two countries with a similar name confused.
The image projection happened in Germany, the Stasi was an East-German agency. Big difference.

This one is interesting, a business was shut down and assets were seized without due process. Dotcom was freed in New Zealand after NZ determined the raid on his home by their elite SWAT like police was not justified, or legal (in NZ). Dotcom may be a d-bag (decide for yourself), but that isn't a crime.

I have no idea if he's guilty or not, and even if Megaupload was involved, was he personally involved? I do know that all web hosting sites of any significant size have a % of stuff that is protected by copyrights. Will Youtube be shut down at some point for this?

This isn't done by Germany.

Also

Berlin police are investigating whether an artist who projected "United Stasi of America" onto the US embassy in the German capital earlier this week could be charged with a criminal offence.

That's really what's wrong with the world. Why bother looking to see if you can arrest him? Perhaps you should stop and ask if you should. The answer is no. He projected an image. Big whoop. Farking hell.

If this is NSFW then you work somewhere rubbish, or are a puritan, but it's a similar thing, but better, because it involves the good form of nudity.

Yeah, what everyone seems to forget is that "He was eventually convicted of 11 counts of computer fraud, 10 counts of data espionage, and an assortment of other charges. " - Basically he was a for-profit hacker dealing in stolen credit cards and computer access.

Later he plead guilty to embezzling a shiat-ton of money and from the way I read it was also guilty of running a "pump and dump" scheme (where you tell everyone what a great investment a stock is to drive up the price and then dump your own holdings).

He basically scum who everyone thinks is a hero.

Now, Megaupload may have been a legit business being run legally, but I'm sure he was aware that people were using it to distribute copyrighted material, but in many people's eyes that just makes him a hero because who the hell should have to pay for music, movies or books?

There is evidence to suggest he not only knew about the file sharing but also facilitated it out of greed. Some of his emails have made it to the public press on this.

Also, sites like Youtube (in particular), to their credit, actually remove copyrighted material when its found. Although this can lead to other problems (since it relies on bot search algorithms and user submitted reports), it is at least an attempt to enforce laws and respect IP.

One thing I will never forgive the government for is turning Kim Dotcom, one of the biggest douchebags alive today, into a free speech hero. Seriously. I mean, I get that generally, free speech icons are going to be people who do or say unpopular things, so they're usually going to be douchebags, but that doesn't have to be the case. What ever happened to our George Carlins and Lenny Bruces? Where are the guys and girls I can cheer on, rather than simply not oppose?

MegaUpload also removed copyrighted material - they actually gave US entertainment companies direct access to the servers to do that.

Even if they did do something wrong, how is it fair that the US unilaterally destroyed a foreign company, seized all their assets, prevented them from having any money to mount a legal defence, and tried to destroy the evidence? (the European data center that was holding much of the data recently deleted it due to US pressure)

And always remember: MegaUpload was destroyed one day after the SOPA bill failed to pass through congress due to massive public protests. Those two things are linked.
