Boeing's stock just took a dive worse than the 9/11 hijackers.

Low and slow.

It's not the Comet.  Chill out, people.  Someone probably didn't read the manual over at the airline.

In other news, Ethiopia's economy is large enough to support an airline running one of the most expensive civilian aircraft on the planet.

Can you imagine what a burning Ethiopian airplane smells like?

What's it gonna take to get them to give up on Lithium batteries already? Geez, just install some gel-cells already....

I wonder if a carbon fiber jet would have held together like the  jet that short landed in Frisco.

This doesn't look like a battery issue.  The APU batteries are in the Aft EE bay which is on the bottom of the aircraft at the aft end of the wing box.  Well forward and below this fire.  This looks galley related... or maybe someone was working in the plane and set it on fire.

Or an electrician working on some equipment in the galley.  Won't know until the team gets there to investigate.  Just saying that this fire was in the wrong place for the battery issue.

The Boeing engineers carefully weighed the fuel cost benefits per plane per hundreds of thousands of passenger/miles carrying lighter lithium batteries vs the occasional fire.  It's known as the ""Pinto Gas Tank Equasion."

I've flown on Ethiopian and it's better than any US airline I've ever been on. All new planes and great food with unlimited free drinks. Many of the passengers are North Americans heading to/from Africa to adopt children.

How many systems on that plane have back-up power?  How many lithium batteries are installed in other locations in the plane?

Isn't the Dreamliner the one they wanted to open a new line to build, in a Right To Work state?  Because unions strong-armed them to keep it in Seattle?

Just wondering...

A quick googe say it is assembled in Everett, Washington and North Charleston, South Carolina.

I do wonder if this is sabotage by the Boeing SC folks to get the line moved from Everett, and get the unions farked over at the same time.

No one even knows what caused the fire yet and you're already asking if the unknown cause was a result of deliberate sabotage by non union workers in SC to stick it to union workers in Washington? Really? You really think that a worker would think "hey if we fark up a few of these planes maybe they'll move production of the line that is partly in SC to fully in SC"?

No, I think Boeing organizes it more quietly, perhaps by shipping substandard parts to SC.  And are you really going to pretend the Dreamliners haven't had any problems before this?
