Saldaña said that in summer 2011 six prominent women in local politics, business and education told her that Filner had physically or verbally harassed them.

This is the difference between the Dems and GOP. The Dems are asking for this person to leave office. If it was one of the GOP's own they would be circling the wagons defending him.

Did we read the same article?   "As disgraceful as Bob's behavior has been, it's been tolerated by our Democratic Party leadership," she said.   "Party leaders, she said, made it clear that if people didn't support Filner they wouldn't receive their support again."  I think the only person asking him to resign is a former city councilwoman.  The issue seems like it's just a case of political infighting, too many unspecified complaints.

Shhhh.....that doesn't fit the narrative.  Why can't you blindly toe the line like everyone else?  Everyone in your party is perfect, righteous, and good.  Your supreme leader is infallible and should be defended at all costs.  Everyone with a differing ideology is inherently wicked and evil.

Ugh the politicians in this city are really bad.  They all fight with each other incessantly, with the worst usually reserved for people in the same party (Gloria v Filner, Demaio v Sanders, Filner v Dumanis, etc).  The County Board of Commissioners are even worse.  I don't know what the fark is going on but it's getting to be embarrassing for the city.

Am I the only one who came away from reading TFA finding the allegations less-than-credible?

Saldaña said Filner never personally harassed her and declined to say who alleged to have had run-ins with the mayor. She said former City Councilwoman Donna Frye, who is calling for Filner's resignation over unspecified sexual harassment allegations, inspired her to talk.

Filner also assured Durfee that no one had filed a sexual harassment complaint against him and that he had many female staffers. Durfee also said that he asked the women who spoke with Saldaña to contact him, but none did.

I'll withhold judgement on this one.

Okay, now I know you are just trolling.
Did you not RTFA or did you not understand it.
The Dems were told about this person  TWO years ago, and they did nothing...except support him.

"Saldaña said she contacted former party Chairman Jess Durfee with the allegations and Durfee was among a group of Democratic leaders who met with Filner to discuss them that summer. She said nothing happened.
"As disgraceful as Bob's behavior has been, it's been tolerated by our Democratic Party leadership," she said."

Here is at least one Democrat the Republicans can get behind in the city, though:

Republicans ran this city into the ground for so many years and now the Democrats are trying to challenge them, but they've lost so many elections their party is really weak and disorganized.  It wasn't all that long ago we were nicknamed "Enron by the Bay" though

Whoa, Demaio may be polarizing but you can't deny the man is an effective politician. He get's things done, actually lives out the fiscally responsible rhetoric, AND is socially more libertarian. A true Californian Republican. He would have been a hundred times the mayor Filner has been. But nooooooo, voters had to assume that just because Obama topped the ticket, magically the candidates under him will be as hip and cool as he was. Bob Filner pulled the wool over San Diego's eyes, and I'd be surprised if they trust the Dems down there for a good long time.

DeMaio is local asshole, having proven his turd cred on a city council that helped ruin the city. DeMaio would have been a similar disaster for the city, just not quite as much of a personal meltdown artist as Filner.

DeMaio was cynically backed by the newly derped local newspaper, which ran an absurd campaign to get him elected as a Tea Pertier, even though he isn't one. In addition, Republican party hack and former failed SD mayor and governor Pete Wilson also endorsed him after the primaries. It all seemed like DeMaio was getting outside help like Scott Walker did in Wisconsin, all of which turned off a lot of people. Filner wasn't under the same microscope and was generally viewed as an adequate if not middling choice. That's why Filner won, because DeMaio lost. Nathan Fletcher, a vastly superior choice to either of those two, would be the mayor right now if the Conservatards hadn't frothed at the mouth to back DeMaio.

THIS.

DeMaio was also an uber-douche about local education, saying while campaigning he'd take control of the local school district and fark over the "evil unions", even though that isn't within the scope of the Mayor's office (we have en elected school board for that).

Filner's term as mayor was never going to end well.  Beyond the apparently serial harrassment, he's being investigated by the FBI for corruption, and his personal style has led to Democrats resigning from his staff and denouncing him as an asshole.

Even if Democrats can't replace him with a Democratic mayor, they may still find it beneficial to push him out of office.  His chance of accomplishing anything has dropped to nil, and politically, it would be difficult to campaign on a narrative that Republican policies are tantamount to a "war on women" while simultaneously excusing a Democrat's one-man war on women.
