freetomato: God, I hope passport cost isn't that much. My passport is 10 yrs old and I planned on getting a new one for an international trip in January of '14. I would think that is a federally mandated charge rather than a local one. Still, $165 is obscene to me. I don't even remember what mine was when I first got it.....$50 maybe. Seemed pricey at the time but hey, I have saw a lot of the world on that $50 so I guess it was money well spent.

/Have not left US borders in too long. I love travel.

I dunno, $165 isn't all that bad: they're good for 10 years, so you're paying less than $20 year.

Travel more. It's totally worth it.

freetomato: entitygm: freetomato: Bigdogdaddy: freetomato: Fingerprints to get a concealed carry permit in GA cost 5 bucks. I got mine for free from the USAF! They got 27 years of my life in return!

I actually have a CCP but rarely carry unless I am on a long road trip unaccompanied and even then I will have BIG dogs with me, which pussy criminals are fearful of. I don't live in fear.

Kansas, $35 for fingerprints, 100 bucks to the Attorney General plus cost of classes.  Good for 6 years I think.  Couldn't swear to that.

Actually, upon reflection, it could vary from county to county in GA. Don't know without research I am unwilling to do right now. Just recall it was a lot less than renewing my notary commission cost.

I went through the CCP (WCL, properly) process in Gwinnett recently. The fingerprint fee was $10
More than reasonable reasonable compared to several other fees for similar services. What's a passport up to, $165?

It's $110 to do a renewal by mail, which you can do since your passport is less than 15 years old. Might as well get it renewed now, as your passport is about to or is already expired, so you are ready to go come January. Just need a passport photo (there are websites that show you how to take a passport photo), a DS-82 (available from state.gov), the old passport and a check for $110.
